Rated 1 out of 5 by InPieces useful for walking workouts - maybe
This is for the lower priced version, since all of the other reviews come up under both watches.
The display is hard to read outside and the back light is so weak that it is of no use. I have had this for less than a month and it already has a scratch on the face.
Distance traveled and calories burned are calculated values, based largely on your input of height and weight, plus its own version of heart rate and steps. It does not count steps if you are carrying anything that keeps your hands from moving, and it grossly overestimates steps if you are doing anything manually (like raking or even sewing!). I am sure it would count "steps" if you are paddling a canoe. Each assumed value that is wrong compounds the inaccuracy of the calculated values.
I got this watch over the smaller "pocket" pedometer because of the heart rate function. It is hard to use if you are moving, as you have to hold the button for a while and movement clearly makes the reading inaccurate. I got a reading of over 120, immediately pressed the button again and it read 76! Maybe a professional athlete's heart rate will change that fast, but I know mine does not.
The band is thick plastic and is very hot as well. A waste of my coupon dollars!

This was is supposed to measure steps, calories, heart rate, and sleep. After wearing it and running with it for a few days, it did not take long to see that it highly overestimated steps and calories. I tried to adjust it, but it did not change the numbers very much.
There's no way I burned over 3500 calories on a day that I ran four miles and sat round watching sports.
On top of that, it said that I was in sleep mode for half day.
I also found it uncomfortable.
Once again though it illustrates why I LOVE LL Bean and why it is, without question, my favorite company in the world. I was able to return it easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by thinnerjeanne Great product!
I bought this New Balance item because I want to keep track of how much I walk and keep track day by day of my increased endurance. Yes, it is a little tricky to set up and the display is not back lit, but once it is set up, (it took me about 5 minutes and I am NOT tech savvy) it was worth it. Wearing it each day I have a constant reminder that I am trying to get fit and I will stop myself from buying that candy bar. I really like the heart monitor because I do have a rapid heartbeat and I can monitor myself at home. The best part of this tool is that a workout, whatever increases your heart rate over a certain period of time, can be not just the gym, but cleaning the kitchen or dancing in the living room! Great product all around. I have lost 55 pounds since wearing this work out tool!

Thank heavens for LL Bean's return policy!!! This item is useless. It is nearly impossible to read the display and impossible to set. Instructions are not complete. Don't waste your money.
