This zip-up turtleneck is a perfect insulating, light layer. I wear it under my big Aran sweater for ice skating. The wool is smooth and non-itchy. This is my umpteenth merino purchase from L.L. Bean...no need for synthetics!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DoggistsGranny Love, love this layer!
This is a very soft, breathable and comfortable lightweight layer, both for under a heavier layer and alone. I tend to run a little on the warm side so this is perfect for me. I also am very pleased that the arms are not too tight. You can push up the sleeves which is not always the case with long underwear. And the shape of the garment is very flattering. I haven't washed this yet but it does not appear that it will pill. It is a bit pricey but I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lynnrx63 Very Nice
I've worn this so far only in 30-35 degree weather, and it definately adds more warmth than the silk base layer I have. It is not as itchy as wool normally is, but it does feel very slightly itchy. Otherwise very comfortable, love the long sleeves and length of top, soft. could wear silk under it to avoid itchy feeling.

Last year I purchased this in medium. It was too long, but i kept it anyway cause i wanted lightweight wool for cool weather souther calif. cycling. I'm 5 feet tall, 125. this year i ordered the small, and its still too long, and too tight. It's very nice lightweight, it just doesn't fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trifele Nice base layer, soft wool
I just got this base layer shirt a couple days ago, and have not taken it off. It is thinner than I expected (quite sheer -- a light colored bra shows through) but very soft and well made. It should be good for outdoor work this fall or winter, worn under a sweater or jacket. I didn't buy this for actual exercising, but I may give it a try while running or skiing, in place of a polypro technical underlayer. If I were to criticize anything, I wish the sleeves were a bit snugger, so they hugged the arms tighter. All in all, seems like a very good undershirt/base layer.

I can't believe this is wool! I walk every morning at 6 am in Northern California. This is a warm and comfortable top. I wear fleece on top when I'm walking or wear it over my tech t-shirt on my way to the gym. I'm a curvy gal and I love the fit. It is just right.
I haven't washed it yet. It seems to good to be true that it can be machine washed and tumbled dry.

This lightweight wool is amazingly comfortable, warm , and modestly priced.I have worn this hiking, cycling, and on chilly days when I just want warmth with no bulk.
Living in the Pacific Northwest and an avid outdoors person; this is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Catnip1229 Great shirt
I bought this after getting the midweight one for Christmas. Really nice, soft shirt that is a good base layer on when I'm being pretty active. It is a lightweight, so not super warm for standing around in the cold. Nice bonus is that it's nice enough to wear alone if I go inside and want to de-layer a bit! I am not sure how this one will launder because I haven't washed it yet, but the midweight one did not shrink and washes really well so I'm assuming this will too. Great product!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by chickencoop Perfect fit, perfect weight wool!
I love wool. This is a perfect weight for wearing over a cotton shirt, and layering with fleece or a parka, or to wear as is in the fall or winter. The sleeves are nice and long as is the body which slopes down in the back for excellent coverage. I love quarter zips. I wear this as a sweater not underwear and it is flattering enough to do so with the pretty blue edges. I am so pleased, I am going to purchase the mid-weight one!
