Rated 5 out of 5 by sealsam1 Hurricane cloth shirt
This is hands down the best shirt for anyone who works and plays outdoors.
I am just now replacing the three I originally purchased 22 years ago. Let this be a good word to you who may be wondering if L.L. Bean quality holds up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by yankeecamper0511 Indestructable, but sized for heavier set people
You can't beat the quality of this shirt; the fabric is sturdy and the stitching is really well done. The cotton liner is soft it's a really warm shirt.
I would just caution buyers about the size, though. This is definitely sized for a heavier set person than I am, but I plan to sort of wear this shirt like a light jacket so it's perfect. But if you're going to wear it over an undershirt, I'd buy a size down from what you usually wear.

Love the shirt! Wish it fit. I wear an XL Tall in most Bean shirts and jackets, but some (particularly "traditional fit") are just too big. I am 6'4" tall and weigh 235#, and the XL Tall in this shirt is WAY too long in the tail and big in the body. Would try an XL "regular" but they are sold out of them. Will try next season when they have more in stock. If you are going to order this shirt, might consider ordering a size smaller than you normally wear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Grammsto2 We love LL Bean, but...
My husband used to love these shirts. Unfortunately these are different than the shirts even 4 years ago. The original shirts he has do not have snaps but they are heavier than these shirts. It would be great to have the previous shirts back, even if they had to raise the price to improve the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 Warm, lightweight, extremely versatile.
This is hands-down my favorite long-sleeved shirt, at the top of my traveling checklist. It's warm enough and densely-enough woven to retain heat and block wind without suffocating you when the car heats up, or you go indoors. If you find yourself getting in and out of cars a lot in cold weather, this shirt's ability to shift gears quickly is a godsend. It is loose enough to layer over a waffle-weave long-sleeved shirt and thin enough to layer under a trim leather jacket (and presents no obstacle to quickly fastening a seat belt). The dark blue version is dark enough to enable you to work in the passenger seat of a brightly-lit car with minimal screen glare. The pockets are large enough to hold a Blackberry-sized smartphone and one or more pens, holding the phone securely (button flap) but eliminating the phone dance that occurs when you try to retrieve a phone from a non-cargo pants pocket. As a minor point, it looks more sharp and structured than Bean's fleece-lined shirt, which is warmer than this one but fits me like a mu mu.

I purchased my first Hurricane shirt when I was in college in the early 90's. It is still in my closet as it is tough as nails. Whether working or playing outdoors "the Hurricane" is very warm as well as resistant to both wind and abrasion.
The only issue I ever had was when two buttons cracked and failed on my first shirt. However, in Bean fashion, I was quickly provided with replacement buttons which were more than adequate in quantity. Subsequent shirts I have purchased over the years have not had this issue and performed just as well as my original.
If you're thinking of buying, click the add to bag button. You will not regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by thequiltygardener One of my husbands favorites
I have been buying these shirts for my husband for years and also as gifts for the guys in our family and they all love them. They wear like iron and wash up well. I don't put them in the dryer so they do need to be ironed to look nice. Also I dry them out of the sun so they don't fade.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PL888 Quality difference from before
I think the Hurricane Cloth Shirt is still a decent shirt. However, I have purchased them before and the previous version feels substantially heavier. The outer cloth part is probably the same but maybe the flannel part is lighter. Personally, I prefer the older version which was made in Canada. There seems to be a quality control issue with manufacturing. I hope LL Bean will go back to the original manufacturer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Blasto Hurricane Cloth Shirt
Years ago these were the best quality on the market. Now, they are made out of so much more thinner material; it is sad. You would think with all the negative comments from loyal customers, LL Bean would react/respond and make it like they used to!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Corih Runs a bit large
Great shirt, it is just what he wanted. My husband wears a 42 jacket, 16.5 inch neck, 6'2". The Tall XL was too big in the chest, but the sleeves were the right length. So getting a Large Tall.
