I typically wear an 8 1/2 wide shoe, but this shoe, even in a size 10-wide, was too small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by bluestem Order one half size up
These were to replace a pair of similar New Balance "walkers" of the same size that were very comfortable. The new pair are definitely smaller. I am exchanging them for one half size larger.
They are well made and look good so, other than size, they are excellent shoes.

I have been buying New Balance shoes for many years because I can always count on the sizing .I normally take a 13.These shoes seem very well constructed but LL Bean has no replacement at one size up.They seem very narrow too.
Cant recommend these.
What happened with the sizing issue lately?
I'm sending them back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Annie1402 Hard to find the right size
As a woman with long, narrow feet, I find it hard to come up with women's walking shoes, so I look for narrow men's shoes and boots. 11N usually works well. In this case I ended up with a 12M, so these run even shorter than most New Balance and narrower. Gentlemen, beware! I also had trouble with the speed lace hooks at the top. The hooks were bent into the boot material and it was nearly impossible to get the laces under them. After all that and two exchanges, I have ended up with a nice pair of medium height walking shoes. I have not had a chance to find out if they are waterproof yet, but if that feature works well, I will be quite satisfied. I just keep wondering, why can't NB make shoes closer to the industry standard? It must make for a lot of unnecessary returns and expense for customers and retailers that they are so out of line.

Size shoe was correct. Shoe was too narrow and cramp[ted the foot. Very uncomfortable. Returned shoe to try a larger size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kokomo1 Very good hiking boots!
I purchased these boots for a trip to Peru where we would be hiking around Machu Picchu. I ordered these early enough to wear before the trip in case they needed to be broken in. ***Tip - the website recommended ordering one half size larger than normal which would have been the same size as some New Balance high top tennis shoes I have. When the boots arrived I found they were too short - I ordered one full size larger and they fit perfectly.
Our trip was in December 2013 which was the rainy season. I had read that these boots had good ankle support and were waterproof. I can say that both are valid claims. We were hiking where there were many rocks on the ground that were sometimes wet - I never slipped or turned my ankles. The terrain was also very uneven and steep. I went to take a picture of a waterfall and was standing in a pool of water that was probably two inches deep - my feet stayed dry!
I have found myself wearing these boots very often on weekends because they are so comfortable. They were comfortable from the first time I wore them and required NO break in.

I've always liked New Balance on my feet. I know their fit so well I never worry about ordering online with LLBean. I saw these advertised and sure enough, they are music to my feet. My most favorite shoe I have ever purchased. Thanks LLBean for a great selection of New Balance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by walkinhome1 New NEW BALANCE "Trail" shoes
I waited to do this review until I had given the shoes a real workout. Break in was just about non-existent. Seriously wore them for the first time building a new privy at Carl Newhall Shelter on the Appalachian Trail. Made many, many 30 minute round trips carrying materials to the work site encountering all types of terrain except marsh but including a decent stream crossing. These shoes did the job with ease. Tread pattern seems adequate. Spent the last day entirely in the rain so they got the "wet" treatment but my feet never seemed to get all that wet. May be due to the newness of the shoe. Support was excellent, rolled my ankle once, which is a pretty good record considering the terrain crossed and I was tired. Comfortable/supportive wearing all day in challenging terrain. Hope to take them (reason I bought them) to Tasmania/New Zealand and give them an additional workout. I think that they are a winner.
