Rated 5 out of 5áby dbest Perfect Fit
I have always used a goose down pillow, so when my existing pillow started showering feathers every time I laid on it, I felt it was time for an upgrade. The issue, in my opinion, is that pillows are sort of like hiking shoes. What one man loves, the other hates. So I went ahead and placed my faith in ol faithful LLBean to select my new closest friend. It ended up being a great fit and I look forward to many years of zzzzzzz's. A few thoughts:
1. The reviewers are correct as to the firmness of these pillows. I went soft, although I was concerned I was going to get a flimsy overly soft cloud. I ended up with a pillow that was as firm as I would ever want it. If it was any more firmer, I would have to send it back. So, if you want a semi-firm pillow, go with the soft.
2. As soon as you get it home, spend three to five minutes fluffing it. It makes all the difference in the world.
3. The comments about the fit into a pillow case are correct. It was like stuffing a sleeping bag into a stuff sack and it looked a little funky after I was through, but the comfort factor has me concluding, "who cares."
4. This might sound weird, given we are talking about goose down, but the pillow does sleep warm. In January, it is wonderful. But I live in Scottsdale Arizona, so I wonder how I will feel in August......

Just received my pillow - standard, medium and I think it is close to being the perfect pillow, for me. Many reviewers were correct about the firmness/softness and sizes of these pillows. I'm mostly a side sleeper, starting on my back first and the standard med. is just right. I thought the firm was going to be it, but after sleeping on these, I believe the firm will certainly be TOO hard. This pillow is really stuffed and IS a bit longer than your average pillow. I got a Queen size pillow protector as a Standard would be a tight fit. The pillow does fits into my standard pillowcase, though a bit on the tight side. The problem is not the pillow, but with the standard 20" width in protectors and pillowcases - standard, queen and king, all have only 20" width.

We purchased a standard-size, medium down pillow and then a soft one. Both are more firm than their rating implies. The soft should be rated medium and the medium should be rated firm. Neither one fits easily into standard/queen pillow case, especially the medium pillow. That one had to go into a Queen size case, and even that is tight.. It is hard to stuff it in the case, even though the case is gusseted. There should be more room to let the down "relax" more. The pillow is very well made, with no odor and no down slipping out. The concern is that they are both too firm, and as such, not very comfortable.

As a side sleeper, I've been looking for a firm down pillow as a replacement for my old one. This pillow has been perfect from the moment it arrived. It supports my head and neck just right and have had the best nights sleep I've had in months. I have not had a stiff neck or discomfort since receiving it. A perfect pillow!

Down pillows need to breathe. I have LL. bean pillow cases and this pillow has to be stuffed in! I wanted a soft flexible pillow; I tried it and woke up with a terrible neck. As a soft it is way too firm.I wish there was some thing not so firm. I have many earlier bought down pillows from LLbean. They are superior to this one. New is not always better.

This is a very well made pillow and the firmest I've found in my nationwide search. Unfortunately it was just a bit too firm for me so I've exchanged it for a medium firm, which I'm sure will be perfect.
I especially like that it's made in the USA.

The soft version of this goose down pillow is extremely comfortable. After trying the medium fill version, which seemed more like a firm, my wife and I chose the soft version. It has plenty of fill for cushioning but allows you to push the feathers into the most comfortable shape. Even though I'm a side sleeper, I can plump the feathers into a small mound on which to rest my head without feeling that a mass of compact feathers is pushing back against me. My only complaint is that the pillows arrived still smelling slightly of goose, unlike Bean pillows we bought years ago. After about two weeks the smell is no longer present. The pillow covering seems to be very high quality and densely woven, so we don't expect to have the down seep out, as it does with cheaper pillows. Your sleep should improve with Bean's sateen white pillow and you may even have better dreams.

After years of searching, I finally found the perfect down pillow. This is fluffy, easily adjustable, firm enough without being too firm, no scent and clealy well made. I got a queen sized medium fill. Frankly, the price had kept me from buying before, but it is well worth it, considering the excellent quality. My insomnia is diminished. Queen sized pillow cases big enough to fit this side gusseted pillow are hard to find. I'd like to see LL Bean carry some beyond flannel, perhaps especially made for this?

After shopping for months to replace my old down pillow, I ordered this one in the soft, as I like a flatter pillow. It was slightly too soft, so returned it for the medium and it is absolutely heavenly. It is comfortable but also has enough neck support. I wish I had started with L.L. Bean in the first place.

I bought the medium fill. It is soft but provides good neck support. Personally, I find that "memory foam" type pillows feel weird and unyielding.
