Rated 5 out of 5 by FCSMasterGardener It's everything the label says it is!
Extremely comfortable, warm, soft, and versatile: I expect it to be great as underwear, bedtime wear or layering as a base garment!
Fit is true, I'd prefer a small petite, alas, not available. But a small regular is not too long in either sleeves or bodice--I'm 5' 3.5" tall and 118 pounds, can wear tops between regular and petite. Neck is not choking nor floppy, double layers of fabric for cuffs at wrists keeps the extra length at bay, otherwise I may have to scrunch the sleeves a little.
I received 2 today, changed out of my LLBeans cotton turtleneck into this "heat keeper", voila, it is indeed warmer.
Its label stated: "Heat-generating technology produces and retains heat to keep you warm", "Supersoft fabric is great for casual layering and comfortable warmth"!
Trust the label, this turtleneck is everything the label says.
I'd buy more in different colors, esp. black when it's available.
I haven't washed it yet, I'll be careful to lay or hang them to dry because one reviewer said it shrunk one full size.
I'm not worried with LLBeans guarantee.

Rated 3 out of 5 by IliveinBean Warmer than cotton
The Heat Keepers turtleneck is indeed warmer than a cotton turtleneck. I would like to substitute if it weren't for two things. The body fits fine but the cuffs are very baggy. The neck is hardly what I would call a turtleneck, it is very loose and baggy. This does not keep my neck warm, very disappointing! The fabric is soft and washes and dries well if hung on a hangar. I will continue my search for a turtleneck that hugs my neck.

This top, along with the other heat keeper tops, is soft, warm and wrinkle-free. The heat keeper tops definitely keep you warmer. I wear this top, not as underwear, but as a top underneath a sweater, a fleece jacket, or alone.
I have received many compliments on the color which is a soft aqua with wine dots. I absolutely love wearing all the heat keeper tops during the winter.
I am 5'8" and weigh 153 pounds and the medium is long enough in the sleeves and the body fits nicely without being baggy or skin tight.
The top does run long but can easily be scrunched without creating bulk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BeeHive As warm as heavyweight silk at half the price!
Speaking as a person who is always cold and also very sensitive to the 'feel' of fabric, I would rate these shirts as comfortable and very warm - especially for the price. I live in a cold climate so I wear heavyweight silk turtlenecks or long underwear shirts daily from fall through spring. I gave this turtleneck in cream, in my usual size, a try this winter. It is an up to date, longer, leaner fit but with plenty of stretch. It fit me as expected and is not too sheer. I wash in cold/delicate and hang to dry - no shrinkage. When one is moving (walking/cleaning etc.,) I would say these shirts might be warmer than silk. (In fact, if you are prone to hot flashes, you might want to choose the crew neck instead!) I think they are slightly scratchier than silk but still soft and comfortable. They might soften over time. I hope these return next winter! I would love to have one in black and several(!!!) in white (heavyweight silk is not made in pure white...).

Rated 5 out of 5 by GroverCat Nice looking warmth
I live and work in a cold climate--outdoors and in--and buy every type of underwear L.L.Bean sells. Warm, soft, thin, stretchy, and close-fitting, this turtle has been very comfortable as a base layer during a very cold winter (better than any cotton jersey). The navy/white stripe is dark enough to look equally good with black; the deep turquoise matches my Double L Zip Cardigan (nice touch, LLB); and the cream is light enough to go with blue, red, etc. Unlike most turtles, this doesn't overwhelm my short neck. My other jerseys will lie in the drawer till the weather warms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AnnsBeantoColorado warm and light; ordered up a size.
Based on the reviews I ordered up a size (M). I am 5'2" 110 lbs and medium fits perfectly. My only concern is that it might shrink as another reviewer experienced. Armpits are a little big #I'm a 34B# but, I'd rather have too much room than not enough. The tips of the shoulders pucker up a bit, but it might just be the sewing on my particular shirt. I am glad I did not pay full price as I am okay with a couple of imperfections.
LLBean: you might consider making a version of this shirt with thumb-holes, keep the t-neck, and adjust fitting according to reviews #larger neck, slightly longer arms...#

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBEANSHOPPERINCGCA Love This Top
I bought both colors and I love them. They run true to size. I haven't washed them yet, so I can't speak for any shrinkage, but I will make sure to line dry, just in case. These are really nice layered or on their own. I plan to wear them under a sleeveless trapeze style black top. I wish they had more colors. I would highly recommend this top.

I purchased this item for a friend. She loved the warmth and the softness of the material. It fit perfectly. However, after just one wash/dry cycle it shrunk down a whole size. I was surprised that this material would shrink, but it did. I have returned the one that shrunk and have ordered the next size up to allow for shrinkage. Word to the wise: order a size up.

Best piece of clothing I?ve bought in awhile! So soft and warm it feels luxurious. Fits comfortably with a generous amount of material. Not skin tight. Best of all, the top is so nice I can wear it as a regular turtleneck on it?s own, or layer it like long underwear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeansRegular It Really Works
I bought this T-neck in both stripe colors last week because we keep the heat in the house set quite low and the weather has been running in the 30's lately. I wore one of them a few days ago and I must say that I was definitely warmer than I expected to be all day. I felt warmer, almost to the point of being slightly sweaty with a second layer (fitness fleece) on, but the shirt wicked any sweat and dried super quickly, so I stayed comfortable. It did not come out of the bag with any odor to the fabric and did not have any odor when I took it off at night. I did hand wash it so that I could wear it the next day, and it washed and dried (hanging over a laundry rack) very quickly and looking brand new.
That first day, I wore it under a fitness fleece in a 66 degree (poorly insulated) house, expecting it to function like the usual cotton/poly T-neck. After about an hour, I took off the fitness fleece and felt too warm to put it back on. It did not dawn on me until later that day that my new-found warmth without 2 layers might be due to the new technology in this shirt. The day after was the same temp outside, and I tried to wear just a regular cotton/poly T-neck, but was cold and had to pull on the fitness fleece layer. That evening, I put the Heat Keepers T-neck back on instead and voila!, I was warm again with just the single layer. It may be just one person's anecdotal story, but I am convinced, and I am buying more.
Now to the fit. I don't like my T-necks to feel tight in any way on my neck, and I found the neck of this shirt to run a bit snug in my usual XS size. The body was also "form-fitting" (but not clingy), as you would expect from a baselayer, but had plenty of stretch and never felt or looked tight. The fabric is substantial but not too thick, and is extremely soft and very stretchy. Despite this, I found myself pulling at the neck during the day. Buying the next size up that solved the neck problem, and the body still was close enough to function as a baselayer. I did not subtract any stars for this as there were no reviews to go by when I purchased the shirt, and I know that most people probably don't share my quirk about T-necks. I would suggest that you buy your usual knit top size in the t-neck, unless you like a more loosely flowing top or a top that has a looser neck. The fabric is substantial enough to wear this top solo, without any cami under, although I did not try the cream color, so I cannot speak for that being more revealing or not.
This top looks just like a regular T-neck that you would wear by itself and can be worn alone or as a layer at home, work or with outdoor activities, and certainly does NOT look like you have your "long johns" on. For me, this is the best of both worlds, warmth that masquerades as everyday and acceptable-at-work clothing. The stripes are small and subtle and can go under some types of patterned tops without looking too busy.
For warmth without bundling up, warmth while looking sleek, and warmth when not even you expect it, this top is top notch. I'm gonna pick up the cream T-neck now, along with a scoop neck and bottom layer to try them all out. I think this is gonna be a really big seller once the word gets out!! Join me in being warm!
