Rated 2 out of 5 by kelliwni Sleeves are an issue - returning the coat
I bought this coat for my two y/o daughter for winter. I loved the fact that the coat is not bulky, however the sleeves are a nightmare for littles. It is hard to get on and hard to get off which doesn't mix well with a two year old. I will be returning this coat because of the sleeves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lynne373 I give this jacket a B+
The reviewers are correct: The darker down feathers do make the jacket look stained in spots. Right out of the package I could see that. If that's going to drive you bonkers, don't buy this jacket. I bought the peach melon spiral design for my 12-year-old daughter and she loves the design and the soft fleece lining the body. What I don't understand is why the fleece never extends into the arm lining??? Daughter pointed that out as well.
Since they've reduced the price on this design (maybe because it's light enough for dark down show-through) and they happen to be offering a $10 off promotion, it's worth it to have a less-than-absolutely-perfect looking jacket that will be cozy and durable for the price. My 12-year-old certainly did not notice the brown spots on her own (and I didn't point them out to her). Since reviewers have complained about this show-through since 2013, I'm surprised LL Bean didn't either restrict to designs dark enough to camouflage down or use lighter down. Does seem odd that they would continue these styles for a second season or maybe they're left over from 2013?

Rated 5 out of 5 by octobermom dark feathers not visible
My daughter picked the teal lagoon color of this coat from all of the different coat choices at the LL Bean store. I came back home to check reviews as far as durability etc and was surprised to see all of the comments about dark feathers from the down making this coat look dirty. We can't see any dark feathers at all, not even under close inspection.

Rated 1 out of 5 by nep1 Outer material will clearly let wind/water in
I'm pretty disappointed with the outer material of this jacket. I realize it didn't say it was waterproof nor did it way it was windproof, but the outer material is so thin it looks like there is no moisture/wind barrier at all. It looks like any amount of wind would go right through this jacket and that after 5 minutes of playing in the snow the jacket will be wet. I bought this jacket because it had a good temperature rating. It did not occur to me that the outer layer would have been so neglected in the design. I'm returning it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by shopperrrrrr Not warm enough and cut small
We are returning this jacket. The sleeves have no fleece, and the down that is there is very minimal. The hood is also not fleece-lined, or down lined. This jacket is simply not warm enough for a Great Lakes region winter. I bought the size 5/6 for my almost-4-year-old daughter (so she's 3), and it fits nicely now but has no growing room. She wears size 4 clothes, so clearly this jacket is cut small.
We will purchase another brand.

The feather filling is a mix of light and dark feathers, making it look dirty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NanaB Best coat ever
I bought the green color in this coat. I was nervous it might be too big for my granddaughter because she is just barely a 6 (and coat was a 6/7). It fit her perfectly. I love the pale blue fleece lining. The coat is light but very warm. In kindergarten she has to be able to zip it up herself and is able to do so quite easily. The hood is almost form fitting and keeps her head warm at the bus stop. I love the color and fit. I was nervous too because she usually likes only pink or purple but this color is so bright and right for her. I like that she can be spotted easily in it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CrazySportsMom Warm, Lightweight, but Very Disappointed
I have come to trust LL Bean so much over the years, that I take most negative customer reviews "with a grain of salt" and have never left negative feedback myself before. However, when I took the seedpod coat out of the package, I was shocked and initially thought it was a defective coat. The down feathers were so prominent through the seedpod shell that the coat actually looked as if it had dirt stains all over it. Perhaps the variance in the feathers attributes to why you can barely see the feathers in some and yet they are so prominent in others. However, I am highly disappointed that a reputable company such as LL Bean would ever allow the coat we received to pass quality control and leave their warehouse in the first place. The note stating that "darker-colored down may be visible through the shell" in no way prepared me for the visible, dark splotches all over the coat. Needless to say, we did return the coat. Otherwise, the coat was lightweight, warm and had a comfortable fit for my tween daughter.
