Rated 4 out of 5áby TheBlankspace Great shoes, but please fix the laces!
My son has insisted on wearing only these shoes since I first bought him a pair to start Kindergarten. He is now in the third grade and still loves them, but they barely make it through the school year before the laces break! Please, please, please, fix the problem with the laces. The shoes themselves have held up very well and are reasonably-priced.

I'd purchased these for my then 5 year old son & loved them. When the laces snapped, LL Bean quickly replaced them with the next size up. Unfortunately, the replacement laces snapped as well. He found them comfortable but I just can't see trying again. We'll probably go with the Comfort moc this year instead - no laces to snap although he isn't thrilled with the color selection.

I thought these shoes were a dream come true and wrote a review to that effect. The shoe its self held up just like I had hoped and THEN we started having this lace problem. They rub inside the top eyelet and snap. I really wish LLBean would fix this issue because I would love to continue buying them. But NOT before the laces are replaced with something tougher.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Butterfly74 Please fix the laces!
I have to agree with the other reviewers regarding the laces....I purchased these last fall for both of my sons. The shoes ALMOST made it through the school year, but before the boys outgrew the shoes, the laces broke on both pairs and were unusable afterwards :( The shoes themselves are very durable...I hope they can fix the design of the laces, because we would purchase them again.

Rated 4 out of 5áby lovesshockmoc Outwears the boy! but those laces...
These are the best pair of shoes my son has had in 4 years! I bought them in October 2013 and he has been wearing them 4-5 days a week. Before that, typically the shoes I buy would last 2-3 months before holes start appearing in the toe area. It's hard to believe that he is still wearing these shoes 10 months later and there is not a single hole in the toe or heel area! I am glad that I bought them slightly big, he was just tight in a boys 1 at the time, and so I bought a boys 2. It was a little big, but not so big that it was a safety hazard for him to be running around. Now they are a snug fit, but he loves them so much, he is still wearing them.
The only problem, which pretty much mirrors many of the other reviewers, is those whimpy laces. They are actually pretty normal laces, but because these shoes last such a long time, they are bound to wear out. And LLBean makes them impossible to replace without cutting out the part that is sewn in.
For all of you needing to replaces the laces - just cut as close to the small center tab that is sewn in, and you can put in just about any pair of laces you like.
LLBean - just a guess that you're goal was to make this easy on kids, so you decided to go with the toggle on a closed loop, rather than traditional laces. Seems the toggle makes the laces weak at the point where it pinches down, both of our laces broke at that pinch point. Maybe you can use the toggle for toddler sizes and convert to standard laces for kids 1-5 sizes? by the time kids are wearing youth 1, many of them can tie their shoes. I know that makes it slower to put on, but our kid found a way to tighten it just enough, so that he can slip them on without untying the laces every time. Now we just leave the double knot.
Fix the laces problem, easily make this a 5 star product for your customers!

Rated 4 out of 5áby ourdoormama So great BUT ...
We love these shoes. My four-year-old son loved them from the first minute he put them on. We first bought them in early fall of 2013. Typically my son outgrows shoes every 5-6 months and by the time he does, they are very worn, with holes in the toes and the soles worn thin from dragging them as he rides his bike. He's an active boy. For some reason, his feet didn't grow much over the winter and he was still fitting into these shoes in May when the shoelace broke. They still fit, and even more incredibly, they were still in really good shape! The soles looked barely worn. The toes, though they had marks on them, were not wearing thin at all. So we went to the LLBean store to get a new lace. But the laces are sewn in. So, they gave me a new pair of shoes! Which was very generous. Then within a week, the lace on the new pair broke. In for another pair. Great service and they gave me 10% off something else I was buying for my troubles. The new laces lasted a couple months and my son was being extra careful not to pull too tight. These shoes are fantastic, but they really need better laces or at least the ability to replace the lace when it does break. I would really like to get these again, but won't do it until the lace problem has been fixed.

Rated 1 out of 5áby Fancifulmist I wanted to love these shoes!!
My husband and I were so excited to order these shoes for our three youngest children. We sincerely trust in the quality of LL Bean products. We have always purchased the Kids' Comfort Mocs and have never had an issue. We were so very disappointed in these Shock Mocs. The laces broke on all two pairs of shoes within three months of purchase. We promptly had them replaced and within 3 months of that purchase all three pairs had the laces broken and the grommets ripped out! We didn't bother to complain about the 2nd go round because we actually didn't want another pair of these shoes. I must say, the lace design on this shoe is just awful. When the laces break, there is no way to replace them as they are actually sewn in at the bottom of the laces where it meets the tongue of the shoe. Also the fabric grommets in which the laces run through broke very easily. As with the laces, once these grommets break you must replace the entire shoe. LL Bean would do far better to design shoes like this but with metal grommets and the ability to replace the laces. So incredibly disappointed with these shoes!! P.S. If you want a high quality, durable shoe which will last you the entire school year, purchase LL Beans Comfort Mocs for kids!!

I have purchased these for both my children. The shoes have a great fit and are tough except for one problem. The lacing system seems to break down long before the shoes wear out! My kids outgrew them before the rest of the shoe even looked worn. They are great little shoes but the laces do not hold up.

Rated 4 out of 5áby justjanet Great soles but they need thickier cording
I have a rough boy and he has worn out several soles of regular shoes. The soles on these shoes are the best. However the cording on two pairs has worn out. Love the shoes but thicker laces/cording would make them the best!

Rated 3 out of 5áby DoulaHolly Shoes run small, laces aren't so great
Ordered these for my son and daughter for scout camps this summer. Ordered the size they should normally wear in other shoes. My daughter's foot is narrow, so I had a feeling these would be too big. Not the case. They fit and she has little room to grow. My son's pair doesn't fit at all--way too small and will have to be returned. For the price, we will order a pair in a larger size. Not happy about the inconvenience.
