I just got this today and it is so comfortable and soft that I kept it on all day. It is beautifully made, has style and could be worn dressed up. I bought it in black. Some people complained about the collar, but for me, the collar fit great. I am usually a petite size, 5'1", so the length is about 2" below my hips, which looks good. The sleeves are too long but that is normal when ordering regular. It is not a heavy sweater, which is why I feel it looks classy.
The sizing is small and the fit is fitted. I wear either a medium or large petite depending on the style. The large fits tight on me, especially in the middle area as I don't have the waist of my younger days + I'm a bit overweight at the moment. I can't go to Xlarge as the sleeves i.e. underarms would be hanging.
Initially I was going to return it as it is made more for a slimmer figure. But after wearing it for a whole day, I want to buy more colours instead. Sighhh! I miss those slimmer days... I'm definitely keeping it. It looks great and feels wonderful, sooo soft (not itchy at all) and warm.
A definite must have for slim figures. If you have issues with your middle area, go for it, just buy a darker colour. I love, love it. Nothing like merino wool.
Haven't washed it yet but based on reviews it shouldn't be an issue. It is a real + to have washable wool. Dry cleaning is so expensive.
Good job LL Bean. If you could make one in the same weight and style but less fitted, it would be great. Just don't stop selling them.

This is a beautiful sweater and based on other reviews, I ordered a large as a gift for my elderly aunt. Unfortunately, the sleeves were just too tight for her and I had to return it.

I bought this sweater in red several years ago. I love it so much that I now own a black and a camel color one. They are warm yet lightweight. They are machine washable which is a must in my book. They are my go-to sweaters when the house gets cold yet I want to look good.

It's hard to find wool sweaters that aren't bulky but LLBean has a few. I returned this sweater and exchanged for the pull over. Cardigans just sometimes make a person seem older than they are even though they great for getting on and off. Material was good quality, light and warm, great for layering. I loved the colors as well. Note that sizes run big. Also, I'm short and length was a little long and bunches up a bit but I'd say it's fine for an average person.

This is an odd little sweater which I am in the process of returning.
The large, supposedly 14-16, is not nearly that large.
The sweater, which supposedly has a shawl collar, has a abbreviated shawl collar, out of proportion to the style.
Finally, the sweater is really short. The style calls for a hip length.
The yarn is thin, which would be nice for the California climate, and the color is pretty too. However, it is an approximation of a winter sweater. Very disappointing. Another $6.99 return shopping. LL Bean needs to work with the manufacturers in China on size and style.

Very soft merino, can be worn right against the skin without feeling scratchy, and I have very sensitive skin. At 5' 4" and 135 lbs and built like a fireplug, I often have to order a large from other brands to fit around my middle, but I know LL Bean runs large. I ordered a medium and it was a bit boxy and loose. Wore it anyway as it looks so nice. The color (red) is very rich and the fabric, although lightweight, is very warm. I live in Chicago and wear sweaters indoors three seasons because I'm always cold. This one is warm enough to wear outdoors without a coat on mild days in the 40's.

Right out of the bag, I loved this sweater. It was a beautiful soft wool fabric, and just the color I was looking for. So I washed it. After just one washing one of the front pockets partially detached from the sweater. I sewed the pocket back on as best I could, however I now have a sweater with one patched pocket. Not at all what I was hoping for. Perhaps you shouldn't put pockets on this type of fabric.

This sweater has a lovely soft feel (important for wool!), but is too fitted for my taste. If you have a slender build and/or like your sweaters close fitting, you'd love it. (I'm average -- 5' 6",130 #.)

I have this style sweater purchased from a few years past and it is my favorite year round sweater. Ordered a blue this year in large,my usual size, and is fits very snug, Ordered dark green extra large and it feels like 2 sizes larger. Have ordered the green in large in hopes size varies by color and I can find one that fits. I love my merino wool sweaters, wish you carried more year round.
I would recommend this to someone tall and skinny with long arms.
