purchased this jacket on clearance and am very happy with my purchase. It has all the little technical details that make it a quality jacket! Like other reviewers said, it does have a bit of a sheen, but you have to be looking for it to see it.
Just wore the jacked for the first times in inclement weather and it really does keep you warm although it only feels like a thick raincoat. The black thumb holes on the wrist cuffs really get you toasty while shoveling.
The are only 2 negatives about this coat is that I purchased it b/c I didn't want a 3 in 1 jacket due to the sleeves slipping back in when you pull your arms out and the black cuffs tend to do that. The other is that the collar doesn't have a hide-a-way zipper pocket for the hood, but just use the drawstrings from the hood and the collar to keep the hood from falling on my head every time you lean down.

I am very pleased with this coat. It is very warm, yet breathable. I have skied in temperatures ranging from -4 to 35 and have no complaints. The hood fits perfectly over my helmet. The two side vents on each side make it easy to cool down after long laps through Bracket Basin at Sugarloaf. The front zipped pockets are very convenient as well. A great coat.

This is a terrific jacket, comfortable, warm and flexible for skiing. It's good looking with the black flex spots in the arms. Really happy with it.

I purchased this for my adult son who works at a ski hill. He is outdoors in - 15 - 40 degree weather for 8+ hours a day. And then he snowboards.
This jacket not only keeps him warm, but is flexible, cleanable, and looks great.

This is exactly what I was looking for as an all-around winter jacket. I won't be using it for skiing, since I have some others for that, but I will be using this for walking the dog, running errands, etc. It is warm, but still reasonably light. Size medium fit me fine at 5'7", 150 lbs. The only improvement I can think of would be the addition of a two-way zipper.

This would be a great jacket except for the fit. I normally wear a large in a jacket (I'm 6'), and tried that size, but found the shoulders uncomfortably tight. I assumed this meant I needed an XL, so I returned the LG and traded for the XL. That jacket had the right amount of freedom in the shoulders, but now I also had a lot of extra jacket around my midsection which I don't like.
If the fit was right this jacket would be a home run. It's very warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Diehard Great jacket!
I had the Snowfield jacket for 2 years...great value but I wanted a couple more features. Zipper broke and LLBean's bulletproof guarantee refunded me...The search was on for a new jacket. The fit is as described. I'm 5'10", 175 lbs. Jacket falls nicely at hips, plenty of room across back for movement, not bulky. Love the features! The snow skirt which when not in use, tucks/snaps conveniently out of the way! Velcro cuffs are great - plenty of room to accommodate any type of gloves. Insulated hood is warm and roomy with infinite adjustments. Did I mention that it's warm? Went tobogganing with my kids (sunny but -3F). Wore dry-fit long sleeve and pull over fleece - medium weight...worked up a sweat in no time but still stayed toasty with the Primaloft insulation! The side vents helped to cool off too! Can't say enough about this jacket. Bring it on Old Man Winter! :-D

Rated 5 out of 5 by VinceQ North Ridge Sport Jacket - great for skiing
Just used my new North Ridge for a week in Breckenridge, CO. Great jacket that was plenty warm even when the temps hit -2 Farenheit. Jacket has tons of great, usable, high-tech features that simply work. Just the right amount of pockets and ventilation and slightly trimmer fit means the jacket is not catching on lifts or ski gear. I also liked having a jacket that didn't scream, "look at my 'insert expensive name brand'". Very high quality - perfect. This will be my "go to" jacket for some time.

Works as advertised. Stay warm, dry and windproof. I went from snowshoeing to snowblowing in the wind, snow, and sleet today. I couldn't have been more comfortable.

-- I'm 6'2", 170 lbs. I wear a Med Tall jacket. I had the 2011 model a wore it all season but it tore in a ski accident last year. Hated to see that thing go as I loved it.
-- Purchased the 2012 model, Med Tall, and it feels very restrictive. Like other reviewers, the distance from the center of the back to the wrist cuff is short when putting my arms in front of me, even with a Tall (see photos). The jacket has a very slender build and high arms holes without much room for movement (see photo). The jacket is also a little too short in length for my liking.
-- Another step down from last year's model is the fact that all zippers are not fully taped or "sealed". You can see in this model that the main/front zipper is unsealed and open to the elements. There is a flap behind the zipper, but there used to be one in the front and back. It is also difficult to fully zip up the collar as the flap at the top gets in the way - the other half of the collar does not easily tuck into the flap. You can see this in the Blue and Red pics of this coat above.
-- Lack of anti-static inner liner is a big downer too. Seems like a small thing, but important. Winter is already dry enough, no need to make it worse.
-- The hood fits very nicely over a ski helmet (which is a must), and allows for freedom of head movement. The hood would be very floppy without a helmet.
-- Unfortunately the jacket is going back. I've since tried on just about every brand of ski coat at local ski shops and have determined that this falls in the middle of the pack compared to all the others, right where a $200 should.
-- Other things I've noted after trying on 30+ coats and finally settling on one: 1) The collar on this coat is perfect height and soft inside - not to tall, not too short. Taller collars rub on the sides and back of my helmet. 2) The TEK2 shell is very soft and a lot easier to tear (as I experienced) compared to a 2- or 3-layer Gore-Tex jacket (but you will pay more for this type of jacket). 3) The elastic wrist cuffs with thumb holes on this jacket are very nice, but the sleeves are still too short. It rubs on the skin inside my thumb. 4) The Pit Zips are nice, but since the opening is covered by fabric they do not open very wide. Most high-end ski coats just have a zipper opening and no fabric covering it allowing a quicker heat dump. 5) The powder skirt is the perfect tension. Some skirts are very tight even without buttoning it closed which makes days on the town uncomfortable.
-- If you are looking for a very good fitting and functioning ski coat I recommend doing your research (online and in-store). Searching the internet for how to Choose a Ski Jacket, and trying on different brands allows you to hone in on what works perfectly for you. This was not it for me.
