Rated 5 out of 5 by YellowOrangeRed great for curvy women
I have been using these stretchy soft-shell pants for years... I wear them down to about 5 degrees (no underlayer, just the pants), for nordic skiing, snowshoeing, walking the dogs. The gaiters keep snow out of my boots. Basically nearly perfect. I have the current version from a purchase last year. I'm back right now to get a second pair in my current size so I can have a pair in the laundry.
I'm 5'5, inseam 30-31 and these pants in Regular are the right length.
These are the ONLY soft-shell type winter pants I have found that fit my curvy figure. (For reference, the current LLBean jeans that fit are the stretch boot cut jeans.) The Mountain Laurel pants are cut with an actual waist, and you can tighten the velcro straps further - this also eliminates a gap in back. In my current size (XL) the velcro adjustment still isn't enough for me, so I use big safety pins and pull the straps even farther to the front - this works, does not damage the pants (tough fabric!), and it's secure and comfortable.
I will say I preferred the older model in which the velcro was on the inside. Disadvantage was you had to unzip the pants to get at the waist adjustment. Maybe that's why LLBean changed them. But in the older version the velcro was less prone to coming loose/popping open. (yes, the safety pins solve this, too...)

Rated 3 out of 5 by TamaraC Suprisingly small
I ordered these in a Medium (5'4 150lbs) since all my pants are size xs and small, and my jeans are size 6. I assumed they would fit fine and possibly be big enough for a light pair of long underwear. I was wrong! They are so tight in the waist that I can barely button them and they won't stay buttoned! Proportionally otherwise they are great! Super soft, legs wide enough to move without restriction, and perfect length!

I really love these pants, but you cant tell from my star rating. I skiied for a week in utah in these and I was warm and dry. However, the buttons kept unsnapping at the most inopportune times. At the top of the mountain, in mid ski, etc. I dont know if I have a defective pair of pants or what. The pants are really warm and fit nicely (slightly below waist), but I think I have to return them because of the unsnapping problem.
Other than that, the pants are true to size and warm. Again, maybe I received a defective pair.

These are the best investment I've made from beans as far as snow pants go. They are so warm and plush that when I come in from playing/walking our dogs I hate to take them off. I'm 5'8", 130 the length and fit is perfect. I've worn LLBean powder dry mid weight thermals underneath these on real windy & snowy days and even sat in snow pile with our labs playing and stayed warm & dry. If you layer a thicker pant underneath there are velcro tabs on either side to adjust the fit and they stay put. Thank you LLB for making me (and our labs) happy when being outdoors. I've mentioned to my friends to get these pants you won't be disappointed. I wouldn't change anything about these pants and would discourage you from EVER discontinuing them. When you have a great product & satisfied customers stick with products that work. I'm sold on these

Rated 4 out of 5 by Windsorgirl Cosy and warm
Bought them because I was excited to find something in petite sizing. Its hard to find petite ski wear. Love the material and the lining. Bought them specifically for skiing and used them during the holidays. They were great. I wore a thin base layer under as well. I bought the XL sizing and find them a bit bigger and wide in the legs than I expected. Should've sized down, but I went based on sizing chart. Wish there were more colours available.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NatalieJSP One annoying feature
The adjustable waistband tabs, which I assume are meant to be used, flare outwards when I pull and attach them to fit my waist. The hooked, scratchy part of the velcro, which is the part on the tabs, then catches and scratches on arms, torso, whatever is in the vicinity. Maybe add some sort of loop to tuck in the tabs?
Really like the gaiter feature.
I am not a fan of synthetic fabrics, but these kept me dry for sure. However, I would still wear leggings underneath because the synthetic fur got quite cold against my skin.

These pants are very well made. Loved the breathable, movable fabric. The furry lining is nice. I also liked that the bottom leg opening was smaller than typical snow pants. I had bought them for cross country skiing and don't need them to fit over big boots. Alas, I have to return them. The XL would fit up to a size 16, but I need an 18/20. When will manufacturers realize that big girls are active too and make an XXL!!!!. Big sigh.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Alane Nice pants, but. . .
These pants are very well made, warm, nicely fitted through the hips & waist, thanks to the adjustable waistband. I returned them because the bell bottoms are way too wide, much wider than they look in the photo. I didn't like how they looked on me nor how awkward & chunky they made me feel (I'm a slim person).

Rated 3 out of 5 by doubledutydogwalker Too big and bulky
I ordered these pants in my usually size and I was swimming in them. Even if I ordered a smaller size, they are too bulky for what I intended, which was walking the dogs in below 20F snowy weather. I have found better options, and I returned these. I will say LL BEAN is great about returns. No hassle whatsoever... slap a label on it and your account is credited in a few days. Great service!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Carolinamom2 LOVE THESE
I have these in black and they are fantastic. I am 5'8" and wear a 14/16 and the XL fits very well. Not only are these pants super warm, but they are extremely comfortable. The fabric is very flexible and is fantastic for winter hiking and snow. I love that I can also wear them around town on cold days and they don't look at all like snow pants. In fact, they are very flattering! The pants do have the self adjusting waistline which is another plus. Really, this is an absolutely fantastic product well worth the investment.
