áby BKosiba Cheaply made but very expensive.
Very disappointed with this. Assembly was easy but the shelf is cheaply made. Gaps and poor finish. The middle shelf is not attached, it has shelf pegs. When shelves are put in there are big gaps. The side panels with the wainscoting the ar gaps also. Not worth $299. Not up to LL Bean quality. Already assembled and will be too much to take apart and box and ship back. Guess it is staying.

This unit is largely held together with dowels. The dowels and holes did not line up at important junctures, leaving the unit quite wobbly. Quality oversight at this manufacture site needs improvement.

Rated 2 out of 5áby llbeanenthusiastic Surprised at the lack of Quality
The bookshelf definitely takes two people to put together, which really was not a bother for my husband and me. However, when the book shelf was together I was surprised at the lack of quality for an item from LLBean. Every section that goes together has a gap, and does not fit solidly. Therefore the bookshelf is wobbly and not solidly built. I decided to keep the bookshelf for three reasons: 1. Putting it back in the box to ship back seemed to present a little nightmare. 2. I'm only using the sectioned shelf to store light weight objects, not books. 3. It does look very nice in our lake house. I am rarely disappointed with the purchases I make from LLBEAN. However, this item was disappointing.

The cottage bookcase we ordered must have come from the same template as Pastybl1212. The holes were 1/2 inch off and it could not be put together. LL Bean is trying to make it right by physically checking the next one sent out, but the second one is shipping to the Post Office. This package is way too heavy for me to pick up and carry to the car. It would be nice if UPS was their only shipping method and packages didn't have to get picked up at the Post Office. Big hassle. But, again LL Bean is trying to make it right.

Rated 2 out of 5áby TraceAndTwisty Not very strong, tricky to assemble
The small middle shelves are supported only by four small, pencil-thin dowels made of some soft and questionable wood. The entire assembly lacks lateral support, meaning you can rest your hand on the top and rock it side to side. It's OK for light use but don't put anything too heavy on it.
The assembly process was a near-textbook example of what manufacturers should not do. The instructions showed major parts as being symmetrical, while in real life they were not. You have to be careful to assemble the right parts in the right orientation, and you're left to figure this out yourself. Even worse, the little stickers with letters on them, used to identify the parts, were swapped on the right and left panels! Not good.
Much of the assembly involves placing the afore-mentioned wooden dowels into holes on the first part, and then mating them with holes in the second part. Most of the holes are too deep, allowing the dowels to retract into the first part during assembly, rather than properly entering the second part to the necessary depth. You might conclude the assembly with shelf barely attached to the frame, with no way to see the problem or to correct it, other than a complete teardown.
Finally, check all the threaded holes for paint which can prevent the final bolts from entering after you have it all put together. Trust me on that.
With modest changes and a slight increase in cost - namely, replacing the cheap dowels with even small bolts - this would have been a nice shelf. Better instructions would have made it five stars. Sadly, by choosing to save a dollar or two, the designers cut the strength of the product in half and tripled the frustration of assembling it.

We are using this piece of furniture in our bathroom. It does require 2 people to assemble at some point. I thought the instructions were somewhat vague on a few assembly points. The diagram did not show a cut out notch in the shelf assembly which is critical to properly putting the piece together Other than that, the piece seems quite sturdy after construction.

I'm pleased with this bookshelf. I like the sections since I can put baskets in them to store a collection of items.
Overall, it was easy to assemble but I definitely recommend two people. I couldnot have done it by myself.
I have it in sage and I like the soft green color. I'd buy another one if I had need of one.
This is my fifthLLBean furniture purchase. I like their classic style.

Rated 4 out of 5áby MTaccountant Nice looking but shelf sizes different
I really like the looks of this bookshelf and we only had minor problems putting it together. But the description said each cubicle had the same dimensions so I was planning to use all 4 cubicles for notebooks. But because of the kickplate decoration going across the top, the upper 2 cubicles are not as tall as the bottom 2 cubicles. A bit snug to put notebooks in the top 2 cubicles. Better for storing paper or notebooks you don't use very often.

nothing lined up properly so you could put this together. I would not ever purchase any furniture from LLBean after this experience. It is being returned.
