Rated 2 out of 5 by TraceAndTwisty Not very strong, tricky to assemble
The small middle shelves are supported only by four small, pencil-thin dowels made of some soft and questionable wood. The entire assembly lacks lateral support, meaning you can rest your hand on the top and rock it side to side. It's OK for light use but don't put anything too heavy on it.
The assembly process was a near-textbook example of what manufacturers should not do. The instructions showed major parts as being symmetrical, while in real life they were not. You have to be careful to assemble the right parts in the right orientation, and you're left to figure this out yourself. Even worse, the little stickers with letters on them, used to identify the parts, were swapped on the right and left panels! Not good.
Much of the assembly involves placing the afore-mentioned wooden dowels into holes on the first part, and then mating them with holes in the second part. Most of the holes are too deep, allowing the dowels to retract into the first part during assembly, rather than properly entering the second part to the necessary depth. You might conclude the assembly with shelf barely attached to the frame, with no way to see the problem or to correct it, other than a complete teardown.
Finally, check all the threaded holes for paint which can prevent the final bolts from entering after you have it all put together. Trust me on that.
With modest changes and a slight increase in cost - namely, replacing the cheap dowels with even small bolts - this would have been a nice shelf. Better instructions would have made it five stars. Sadly, by choosing to save a dollar or two, the designers cut the strength of the product in half and tripled the frustration of assembling it.

We are using this piece of furniture in our bathroom. It does require 2 people to assemble at some point. I thought the instructions were somewhat vague on a few assembly points. The diagram did not show a cut out notch in the shelf assembly which is critical to properly putting the piece together Other than that, the piece seems quite sturdy after construction.

I'm pleased with this bookshelf. I like the sections since I can put baskets in them to store a collection of items.
Overall, it was easy to assemble but I definitely recommend two people. I couldnot have done it by myself.
I have it in sage and I like the soft green color. I'd buy another one if I had need of one.
This is my fifthLLBean furniture purchase. I like their classic style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MTaccountant Nice looking but shelf sizes different
I really like the looks of this bookshelf and we only had minor problems putting it together. But the description said each cubicle had the same dimensions so I was planning to use all 4 cubicles for notebooks. But because of the kickplate decoration going across the top, the upper 2 cubicles are not as tall as the bottom 2 cubicles. A bit snug to put notebooks in the top 2 cubicles. Better for storing paper or notebooks you don't use very often.

nothing lined up properly so you could put this together. I would not ever purchase any furniture from LLBean after this experience. It is being returned.

The Bookshelf arrived in several pieces, 3 were labeled incorrectly and it was difficult to put together, takes 2 people and did not feel strudy unless all pieces were in exaclty the correct position.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mycustomerreview Attractive and useful for books or whatever.
I like the way this bookcase looks and the fact that it is divided into cubicles instead of just shelves. This allows it to be used for anything, not just books.
However it was a nightmare to put together. I'm not sure it will stay together. There was at least one mistake in the directions regarding which parts go together. There are dowels that have to be placed into holes, which you can't do without hammering them because the holes are not completely open at the tops. The instructions to not mention this. Also one hole was drilled deeper than the one right next to it so that one dowel goes in deeper than the other. Also it cannot possibly be put together by only one person. According to the instructions you only need 2 people to lift it up once it is already almost together.
This is my 4th or 5th piece of furniture that I have assembled from LL Bean, including 2 bookcases (with just shelves). I have never had such problems before.

This storage/bookcase/extra shelving unit was easy to assemble with clear instructions. The white color we chose is a soft, creamy white; nice color. We have other pieces of the painted cottage collection and are very happy with each one.

This turned out to be just the right size for my entry way and holds a lot more books than it would seem. Very sturdy and easily put together. I have several other pieces from this line and have been happy with all of them.
