This shirt is too thin to be worn as anything but a base layer, so that means the top layer has to coordinate with the turtleneck. The silk is so thin I'd be concerned about durability.

I just received this turtleneck, on the coldest day in NJ in a long time. I ordered a men's small (I am a women's small) but it seems to fit perfectly, after all, it's an undershirt! I have worn it all day, in the bitter cold outside during a fitness walk, and as an undershirt at work, and it is perfect. I would order up a size, though, just to be sure. Thanks, LL Bean!

I am truly thrilled with my silk base wear..I wore one today and it felt like a second skin....very soft and very warm..the wind today when I wore the shirt was blocked and I was warm and able to move quickly as well...I love these shirts.I chose small as I am a woman and petite..I shall look to purchase more of them!L.L.Bean is a winner...these are well made and look stylish and work well..and that counts with me!!

Yes, I buy a men's tall because there is no women's tall silk turtleneck.

What with our wind, rain, and cold wind, LLBean's Men's Silk Turtleneck first layer works perfectly here in the Pacific Northwest.
It helps keep me comfortable without too much heat, or too much cold. I will purchase another one or two.
Yes, they are what you want if you are outdoors and in the bush.

Ordered this for a friend who's constantly cold. This replaces ancient polyester thermal underwear that never kept her warm. She's loving it. Warm without weight. Excellent fit she says. Would have ordered it in women's sizes but the long sleeved turtleneck isn't offered to women.

First of all, this made-in-China silk turtleneck is super light, so light that you can see your fingers through the fabric. Despite the gossamer-like texture this turtleneck is pretty warm. Obviously it must be worn as a base layer but other garments slide right over it. This weekend I wore my new silk turtleneck during a long, brisk walk and today went for a 100-mile motorcycle ride in weather that hints that winter is upon us. It performed flawlessly. I'm also pleased that it's long enough to be tucked in. And like my favorite performance material -- merino wool -- silk breathes well and doesn't seem to retain odors. I gave this product 4 stars because I'm not sure how it'll hold up in the long run but so far I'm satisfied.
