I love the Cresta quarter zip base layer. I wish I had bought 2. My chest size was like 41 and I went with the medium rather than large and it fits perfectly. It's not itchy and makes the perfect base layer for hiking. I also bought the Cresta base layer pants. I love the thumb holes in the sleeves to keep your hands covered when you don't want to wear gloves or just don't have gloves handy. Very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SasquatchBigfoot A Dry, Warm Base Layer That Does Not Stink
Since purchasing my first wool base layer from LL Bean a couple of years ago, I've become a believer in merino wool as a base layer. The hydrophilic wool is as warm as any of the hydropphobic sythetic base layers. What makes the wool better is that it does not retain odor and has a much greater resistance to pilling. I have several synthetic base layer garments. They all retain odor after laundering. And they mostly stay in the drawer. Not so for my Cresta Wool. If Cresta Wool garments were made in North America, I'd give them 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cyclist78731 Wonderful warmth, you will not want to take it off
I am a cyclist, and this was intended to be a layering piece. As such, it is quite nice and immediately replaced my synthetic pieces. I have now ordered the crew neck version to go with this. I highly recommend it. My biggest problem is that after the ride, I don't want to take it off, yet I feel it is somehow not right to continue wearing it. After a 5 hour ride yesterday, it didn't smell, so after my shower I put it right back on! I'm wearing it again today! There is no way you could do that with synthetics! Also, machine wash, hang dry. I did dry it at low heat once, and it did shrink a little but not enough to be a problem, as the sleeves were already pretty long! Anyway, you won't regret getting this item!

Rated 3 out of 5 by weise warm, comforable, does not stay tucked in
The base layer top is warm but does not stay tucked in. My son is not a big man, and definitely no belly, but the shirt pulls out, needs to be longer in the tail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Goodhue Outstanding!
I've been using a couple of old wool shirts from Bean on really cold days for 10 years but because they're showing their age I decided to spring for a couple of new ones. I am delighted with the Cresta Wool Midweight Base Layer, Quarter-Zip! At 6ft,160 lbs.,the medium fits me perfectly. The thumb holes are a great addition and allow me to put other layers over the shirt without it becoming a wrestling match. The mock-neck is a wonderful feature. It's neither too tight nor too loose and keeps my neck warm while also sealing the warmth in. This shirt is also rather stylish and when I wear it alone it is not too warm while I'm inside. While it may have seemed expensive,I've found it to be money well-spent! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MIchjoe Best product I have yet to purchase from LL bean.
One of the best products you will every buy from LL Bean!!! Merino baselayers are my go to baselayer. I've shopped around for the last several years. There are merino baselayers out there that are of a slightly better quality, but it is slight, and the price increase is 50% or more. Then there are some other brands that are not as good as the LL Bean merino baselayer, but cost a little less. None of those other baselayers come with the LL Bean warranty. 4.9 star product made 5 because it is backed by LL bean. On their own or as a layer, they are great. I did not think I would use the thumb holes as much as I have. Even if you don't use thumbholes, they are good to have to keep the sleeves in place when putting on layers. Warm and well made. True to size, When active does not cause overheating as other materials might. Moisture is never perfect in any garment when active, but al least in wool it is manageable. I tend to rotate a pair every other day and wash about once every two weeks. Odor is not an issue. I have machine washed and dried without issue (though I'm guessing high heat is a bad idea when drying). I have started to just dunk in water a few times by hand to dry on a rack. I'm guessing I could go a months just soaking a few minutes and air trying every few weeks. Just a great product. I own 4 of the tops and 2 of the bottoms. My wife liked to so much that she now owns two of the tops and two of the bottoms. I think it is the best thing LL bean sells.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kimmerle79 Good value
Warm, comfortable and good fit in the arms. Loose fit through the body. I am 6'4" and weigh about 175. Great product for the money in comparison with other 100% wool products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lster Warm, light
I got this for my husband, it's his second Merino wool shirt (the other he has is not LL Bean). Great for outdoor activities, doesn't hold moisture or odor.
He is already living in it.
Usually wears a medium, but I got him a large, fits perfectly and love the styling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Macgyver Cresta Wool Base Layer 1/4 Zip
Unfortunately I have the same issue with this product that I did with the Power Dry line, they are to short and don't stay tucked in when reaching overhead. This midweight shirt (in my opinion) is supposed to keep you warm during cool weather, and when your lower back becomes exposed, it defeats the purpose. I am forced to return it, and this is unfortunate, because the feel, color and quality are fantastic. Another inch or two in length (perhaps even a tapered back) LL Bean, and you have another winner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BertoBob Very warm, good quality, but large is too large
I bought this Midweight Base Layer last year to wear while cycling under a breathable, cycling specific jacket. The quality is excellent and it works great as far as wicking sweat away from your skin and keeping you both warm and dry. I used it a few times for long rides w the temps in the mid to low 30's. The thumb hole cuffs are a fantastic feature.
Unfortunately, after consulting the sizing guide, I ordered and received a Large. Well, it is certainly Large; way too Large. Repeated hot water washings had no effect in shrinking the overall sizing so I still am swimming in excess material. I may return it, although I feel guilty since it has been worn.
Unless I received an incorrectly labeled size, these base layers seem to run large. Use that caution as a guide if you are uncertain of your size.
