Rated 5 out of 5 by steelcitypb Really... just the wind?
I purchased this jacket as an alternative to a hard or soft shell jacket- one that I really needed to protect me from the elements (wind/water). Seeing as I never really spend time outside when it's pouring rain, or still roll around in the snow for hrs on end, I figured I'd give this little gem a go (after all, the wind just makes everything that much worse, am I right?). I was VERY pleasantly surprised. Not only does it protect completely from the wind- but I also found that any water tends to instantly bead up and roll off the jacket. I realize this is not fully waterproof... but seriously, for the price... ultra sharp-looking, fully windproof, and HIGHLY water resistant. Not to mention, wearing a few layers with this guy will keep you surprisingly warm!

Rated 5 out of 5 by roadwarriormd Windstopper NYC visit
The fit for this coat is extremely comfortable... it is excellent for anyone who spends time in the car as one does not get overheated.
I visited NYC on a windy day w/ temp at 30 degrees. Wearing a inner vest was necessary as the jacket needed a little help w/ the tempersture so low. Walked approximatley 15 blocks and did not tire or get cold. Windstopper's light weight was crtitical to staying power as I would have been exhausted with a heavier jacket.
Also - bought this at the Flagship store in Freeport. The service by Bean personnel was over the top... reminded me how shopping used to be and cannot be found in most retail establishments today

Rated 5 out of 5 by RFarm Windbraker Jacket
It is a gift for our 9th grade Grandson who is 6'1" with a strong bone structure. He loved the hooded overall show jacket he got last year we thought for those not quite so cold days this would be just the ticket. He was extatic about last years gift and knowing his Grandfather picked this one out he will enjoy it as much for the not too much snow days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanShopperPennsyl Great for active use
I love this jacket. It's good in a lighter weather situation as you will build up heat. I definitely think it blocks about 90% of the wind when not in heavy use. It fits slightly smaller than other L.L. Bean jackets. The sleeves are ever so slightly short and the bottom is just a little short. I'm 5'10" and wear a small. This isn't a big deal to me, and the medium fits perfectly except for the huge gut. I wear a thinner down jacket or the ascent packaway vest underneath this and feel great. I actually went on a hike today in below freezing weather while it was snowing with a baselayer, this jacket, and then the packaway vest on and felt perfect with a beanie.

Rated 5 out of 5 It works!
Amazingly, it really works! Very lightweight, but very effectively stops the wind. Went out biking on a 35 degree day with minimal core coverage to test it out. Biking generated the heat and the jacket kept it in regardless of my speed or the external wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Flan48 Great Jacket for Vigorous Cold Weather Exercise
This is exactly for what I'd been searching as a cold weather cycling (bicycle) jacket. The key things for an outer cycling shell are windproofing, at least some water resistance, and of even greater importance, breathability. With this jacket's "active shell" makeup, it does all of the above with great efficiency.
Although I normally wear a large in a jacket, with the Ascent Windstopper Soft-Shell jacket, the medium fits perfectly, even allowing for 2-3 layers underneath, a requirement for my winter riding. Additionally, the so-called "vibrant red" is actually an orange color and thus very visible to both oncoming and rear vehicular traffic.
Thus far I have had 2 rides with the jacket, both with temperatures of 40-45 degrees , and with only a thin base layer underneath I was not only comfortable, but even after a 1-1 1/2 hour ride, my back and arms remained dry, which shows the wicking and breathability of this jacket. Additionally, and to me an added "bonus", is that the jacket has a zippered chest or "Napolean" pocket, and 2 zippered hand warmer pockets. As such, bringing along keys, cell phone,ID, a small snack(s), etc is no problem. Furthermore, unzipping any of these could allow for added ventilation if you feel that need.
I highly recommend the Ascent Windstopper Soft-shell jacket for any moderate-highly aerobic activity, particularly cycling and running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by likestoplayoutside Great fit, waterproof, soft and cozy
I got this for my son, who is in HS. This is one of the best jackets we have ever bought from LLB. The tech fabric has a soft hand yet is wind and waterproof. He almost feels like he's not wearing a jacket and the weather can't touch him!

Rated 4 out of 5 by mianjo9 I Believe This Is What I Was Looking For
I ordered this jacket for outdoor activities, mainly for cycling. It is imperative that the jacket breathes. I only had it for over a week and it appears to do exactly that. I ordered the red; and let me tell you I really mean red (batteries included). I prefer this color so I will be seen whether on the roads or trails. I am 6 feet tall and I have long arms so the large tall fit me perfectly. I plan to wear this jacket alone in weather 60 degrees to 40 degrees. For me, anything below 40 degrees you will need another layer. The price was reasonable but a little high for my taste but overall a quality jacket.
