Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanShopperPennsyl Great for active use
I love this jacket. It's good in a lighter weather situation as you will build up heat. I definitely think it blocks about 90% of the wind when not in heavy use. It fits slightly smaller than other L.L. Bean jackets. The sleeves are ever so slightly short and the bottom is just a little short. I'm 5'10" and wear a small. This isn't a big deal to me, and the medium fits perfectly except for the huge gut. I wear a thinner down jacket or the ascent packaway vest underneath this and feel great. I actually went on a hike today in below freezing weather while it was snowing with a baselayer, this jacket, and then the packaway vest on and felt perfect with a beanie.

Comfortable but not warm. Good for "shoulder" seasons

Rated 5 out of 5 It works!
Amazingly, it really works! Very lightweight, but very effectively stops the wind. Went out biking on a 35 degree day with minimal core coverage to test it out. Biking generated the heat and the jacket kept it in regardless of my speed or the external wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Flan48 Great Jacket for Vigorous Cold Weather Exercise
This is exactly for what I'd been searching as a cold weather cycling (bicycle) jacket. The key things for an outer cycling shell are windproofing, at least some water resistance, and of even greater importance, breathability. With this jacket's "active shell" makeup, it does all of the above with great efficiency.
Although I normally wear a large in a jacket, with the Ascent Windstopper Soft-Shell jacket, the medium fits perfectly, even allowing for 2-3 layers underneath, a requirement for my winter riding. Additionally, the so-called "vibrant red" is actually an orange color and thus very visible to both oncoming and rear vehicular traffic.
Thus far I have had 2 rides with the jacket, both with temperatures of 40-45 degrees , and with only a thin base layer underneath I was not only comfortable, but even after a 1-1 1/2 hour ride, my back and arms remained dry, which shows the wicking and breathability of this jacket. Additionally, and to me an added "bonus", is that the jacket has a zippered chest or "Napolean" pocket, and 2 zippered hand warmer pockets. As such, bringing along keys, cell phone,ID, a small snack(s), etc is no problem. Furthermore, unzipping any of these could allow for added ventilation if you feel that need.
I highly recommend the Ascent Windstopper Soft-shell jacket for any moderate-highly aerobic activity, particularly cycling and running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by likestoplayoutside Great fit, waterproof, soft and cozy
I got this for my son, who is in HS. This is one of the best jackets we have ever bought from LLB. The tech fabric has a soft hand yet is wind and waterproof. He almost feels like he's not wearing a jacket and the weather can't touch him!

Rated 4 out of 5 by mianjo9 I Believe This Is What I Was Looking For
I ordered this jacket for outdoor activities, mainly for cycling. It is imperative that the jacket breathes. I only had it for over a week and it appears to do exactly that. I ordered the red; and let me tell you I really mean red (batteries included). I prefer this color so I will be seen whether on the roads or trails. I am 6 feet tall and I have long arms so the large tall fit me perfectly. I plan to wear this jacket alone in weather 60 degrees to 40 degrees. For me, anything below 40 degrees you will need another layer. The price was reasonable but a little high for my taste but overall a quality jacket.
