Rated 5 out of 5áby Stacy412 Exactly what I wanted
This is a perfect jacket for rainy spring days. I bought it to wear to work because the jacket keeps you dry in downpours and the hood obviates the need for an umbrella. It's lightweight with some wind resistance, and has two zippered side pockets that come in handy. Elastic on the sides of the hood prevents it from blowing off your head in the wind, and an abbreviated visor keeps the rain out of your eyes. There's a subtle same-color L L Bean logo embroidered on the left breast. I'd say the jacket runs true to size.

Rated 3 out of 5áby freebieandthebean Nice but flawed
I'm returning this jacket because of too many flaws in design: Not enough pockets (no chest, nothing inside), not being able to fold the hood away, a little too short, billowy around the body instead of resting against it, etc.
That said, I really did like the lightweight of it, the apparent well-made quality of it, and it really did seem waterproof. I tested it under a running shower against a few other waterproof jackets, and none were as good as this one. So I kind to hate to see it go.
So if you don't mind the flaws and lack of frills, you should be pretty happy, and dry, with this jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5áby Nickname1 It's a start but Bean can do better
First want I liked: Alpine gold and mountain red colors. Full mesh liner. Tail length was about right for a rain jacket.
Jacket needs: Breast pockets. Not the dinky type which only fits a cell phone, but a wide deep pocket that will hold stuff that you must carry with you. Zipper flap with velcro or snaps. Collar so hood can be stow-able the 95% of the time you don't need it, so it stays out of the way. Velcro on cuffs.
Jacket is only good for light rain. Probably okay if you need a jacket to protect you in light rain, but not for heavier rain or no/slight chance of rain in forecast. Wouldn't want the hood always getting in the way.
Bean is finally headed in the right direction in creating a light weight jacket for the warmer climates, but the jacket needs improvements listed above.
Jacket will be returned.

Rated 5 out of 5áby dolemite Great rain coat
Living in a hot, humid region, I wanted to make sure I wasn't buying a rain coat that doubled as an Indian sweat box in July or August, and this coat fits the bill. Coat is light-weight, well constructed (no cables or irish pennants) and fits well. If in the cooler months I want to layer, there's plenty of room to slip a fleece or other insulator under the jacket, and in the summer with less clothing, the coat isn't a tarp. Looks nice, fits comfortably and keeps me dry.

This is a sturdy good raincoat. The inside is a mesh. We have not used it in the rain yet but I think we will be happy with it.

This is a nice raincoat. We have not had the opportunity to use it in the rain yet, but it feels like good quality. It has a mesh inside so it will breathe and not be too hot.

Always wanted to buy myself a nice light rain jacket, and this is it. Fits great, feels great. It is a nice jacket, not a flimsy windbreaker. Would recommend this to anyone looking to get one.

Rated 5 out of 5áby PeepleWatcher I ordered two of these jackets on a whim . . .
... before our recent trip to Australia. I'm really glad that I did. I ordered one for me in a men's size to cover my camera in the event of rain, and it even covered me in a Polarfleece jacket. I wasn't sure if we would need these jackets, but I figured they would pack small, be light, and be waterproof. The jackets kept us dry in the pouring rain and warm (over my fleece and my husband's sweater)! We went out on a night excursion (in the rain) to watch the penguins come ashore and we were the only ones in our group that kept warm and dry. The hood is not removeable or packable, but, in the pouring rain, who cares?
The jacket is just a basic jacket (without a rain flap over the zipper) and it does not breathe, so you get a bit sticky if its warm, but in temperate Melbourne, in the pouring rain, it worked just fine for us. I'm glad I bought these jackets!

Rated 5 out of 5áby tomsbeans The best Windbreaker/Rain Jacket Ever
Elsewhere I paid $100 for a windbreaker like this one and while it was twice the price it wasn't half as good as this LLBean Discovery Rain Jacket. The size is perfect for use with layering since I have no problem wearing a shirt and sweater under it. It resists wrinkling and is very comfortable. This is not only the best, it's a great bargain too.
