I?ve been wanting to buy this coat for several years and have even tried it on a few times. Sadly, all the negative comments are true. The plastic clasps are awful in both look and feel and not up to the standards I?ve come to expect from LL Bean. The coat sizing is inconsistent with other Bean products so what fits in arm length is tight in chest/back, what fits in chest/back is long in the arms, etc. You?re better off getting the Bean Pea Coat, pass this one by.
If LL Bean quality control is listening then material sourcing needs to be better inspected, the sizing revisited and the production line monitored. This one is really a miss and a disappointing one at that.

I bought this coat and loved it with all my heart, because it looks really nice and it physically feels so good and comfortable to wear, but UNFORTUNATELY it's definitely NOT made for rugged wear. The material rips at the seams with a slight pull of the sleeves. For example, if you get into your car with the coat on, and you extend your arms forward to reach for the steering wheel, the sleeve will rip at the seam. Would definitely buy this thing again if LLBean figures out a way to fix the problem.

Great coat. Good quality, true to size. Can always trust L L Bean for great products. Especially this one because of their teaming with Sterling Wear. One fault is that the zipper is too flimsy and it should be more heavy duty. Still would recommend. I have just ordered their Authentic Pea Coat. Look forward to getting it.

Well made, warm and cozy. Good fit, true to size. Only complaint is pertaining to quality of zipper. Should have been made a little more heavy duty. All in all great duffle! You can't go wrong with LL Bean products, especially when they team up with a company like Sterlingwear.

I want to echo all the complaints about the size of the hood, the annoying collars and the plastic toggles. This is not up to the standards I have grown to expect from LL Bean.

Before using the Duffel Coat I suggest a thorough dry cleaning for the inside of the coat! The inside is not very clean for immediate wear.

I have worn this coat for a week and found it to be comfortable on some below zero wind chill Wisconsin days. I feel the coat itself is outstanding, my knock is with the button system. It's cheap and cheap looking! I feel for the quality of the other parts of the coat the plastic fake leather parts should be real leather and the cheap looking plastic antler should be antler, bone or wood. The plastic cheapens the look of the entire coat

Rated 3 out of 5 by A2Lisa such quality materials, such a huge hood
This item was overall too large for its intended wearer, and that's just what that is, but---my, my---the mentions here of how oversized the hood is are not exaggerating. It's bigger than the kind a monk might like to get lost in. It's big enough that one could have a costume pumpkin head of a 3-foot diameter and it'd probably fit over it just about right.
Most disappointing about it not working out was what a nice thick coat it is, clearly well made, attention to detail, really good stuff.
You could wear it without taking off your football helmet. There's that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Esquire Great Coat With a Couple of Exceptions
Overall this is a beautiful coat that is made in the U.S. which I get a lot of compliments on. Having said that I have to agree with some of the reviewers in that the zipper is way too small for the coat and can be hard to zip up or comes apart while wearing. I truly cannot figure out who thought that was a good design feature. I also agree that the collar is a bit tall and stiff and in your face, especially when wearing unzipped. Despite a couple of short comings this is a great coat. It is stylish, very warm and gets lots of looks. As is the case with most duffle coats, they will run large so I would recommend ordering one size down. For example I am approximately 6 feet 235 and normally wear an XL. For this coat the Large is a perfect fit.
