Rated 3 out of 5áby imabeanie Nice, but with drawbacks
Every person has a different metabolism when it comes to withstanding cold temperatures. Mine is not one that can stay warm in a winter jacket/coat lined only in satin, no matter the outer material. Such is the case with the Authentic Wool Jacket here.
It is well constructed of 80% melton wool and 10% nylon. It also has some heft to it, some would call it stiffness. It is lined in satin throughout. The collar is very generous. Its length, however, barely covers one's hips.
For me it is not a warm jacket, even with wearing a midweight layer, as suggested. Cold breezes easily slip under the jacket's bottom and sleeves. I wonder how LL Bean can assign a "Warmer / to -15 degree" rating to it.
The first time I wore it, on a 20-degree day, a friend I was visiting remarked that it didn't look like a very warm jacket. How perceptive. Maybe if you are a US Navy man, such a jacket is sufficient to keep you warm. I'm not and it didn't.

I like the jacket, but the zipper is very difficult to fasten and close.

Perfect coat for cool, but not bitter cold, weather; until you add another layer or two. I ordered up one size to have room for a hooded sweatshirt and a sweater. This is the second time I've ordered this coat. The first was several years old when I gave it to someone who needed a coat. I reordered and was delightfully surprised to discover that this item is now made in the USA. Top quality, sturdy zipper, and a real luxurious lining. Navy color is so dark it is almost black.

Would recommend this coat. I feel good when I wear it. Fills the void between dressy and casual and comfortable in the car. The coat runs a bit large, I had to exchange a large for a medium.

Looks like something Eisenhower would have worn. Shoulder pads, olive green (not loden), stiff material. If you want something to wear at the next veterans parade, this is it.

Excellent fabric, zipper and lining. Perfect weight for fall and winter in the south. Would have paid $50 more for it to be made in the USA. Made in China, but well made anyway..

Rated 4 out of 5áby selfs Quality USA Made Jacket, But. . .
This jacket is very well made of good materials. However, the design is different than it appears in the pictures. As prior reviewers have noted, the shoulders are very square and heavy, which is due to shoulder pads. I took it to a tailor and had the shoulder pads removed. The tailor said it looked "stupid" with the pads. It is also large at the waist. I ordered a large long, and the sleeves are shorter than another LL Bean wool coat in large long that fits me well. The sleeves should be about an inch longer, in my case. Overall it's a nice jacket if it fits you properly and you have the shoulder pads removed.

Rated 5 out of 5áby amdoremi Well-tailored, warm and lightweight jacket
Since this is a gift, I can only comment on what I observed and felt upon opening the package. I love the gray color of this fine wool material as well as the fact that this is advertised as warm and lightweight made by a partnership with LL Bean and the crafters for the US Navy in Boston. My husband will have to wait until Christmas to experience this beautiful jacket. I would love a similar jacket for myself. Will LLBean be making them for women as well?

Rated 3 out of 5áby fasteddy33 Huge waist for a Small otherwise nice
Would give 5 stars for beautiful fabric, nice color (Loden), heavyweight, jacket seems well-made. Would give 1 star for the pattern - the waist is huge. So average 3 stars. I wear 38R suitjacket and ordered a small. It fit well in the shoulders and sleeve length, but the circumference of the jacket at the waist measured 44 inches! Avoid this one if you are trim. Others have criticized the collar for being overly large, I thought it was fine.
