Rated 3 out of 5 by Lovingoutdoors Too large for women
These should not be listed in the women's or as unisex until they get an XXS. I think they would be great overmitts and I was looking forward to replacing my ones from 25 years ago of another brand. No such luck as these are huge! I ordered the smalls and then the XS but even the XS are too big. I don't profess to have large hands for a female. In fact they could be thought small, but I had a full inch of space left at the tip even with double hand knit mittens as the liners. Kind of useless for doing anything outdoors except walking. I would have been willing to buy a kids' size but they don't exist. Returning, unfortunately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheSnowMan Finally - A Gore-Tex Mitten Shell!
Had a similar shell in Boy Scouts back in the 1980's. After ten years of tough use, they finally worn-out. Nobody had a replacement. Frustrated, I waited patiently for 15 years, while trying other options for snowshoeing and skiing. Nothing worked as well.
Then, in 2013-2014, L.L. Bean released this product. I bought it immediately. It proved to be awesome. I wear thick rag wool mittens with a moisture wicking undermitt underneath this shell. My hands are always warm.
Skied inside a storm cloud at Alta, Utah, 30 March 2014, wearing these shells. Sustained winds of 40-60 MPH. Temp dropped from 43F to 18F in under an hour. Heavy snow. My hands and more importantly, my fingertips stayed quite warm--which is impressive as my hands get cold easy sans layers. The wind and moisture were completely blocked and the shells kept the warmth inside.
In a phrase, "Get this product". Excellent quality, easy to adjust.
Photo - you can see the mitten shell's reflection on the goggle's lens, just before the storm picked-up intensity.

My 18 year old always has cold hands; Raynauds Disease. I wanted to make sure she had warm hands so she could enjoy the family ski trip. I bought other mittens elsewhere, but she wore these shells over the other pair of mittens. While snow boarding, her hands stayed completely dry with these shells over another pair of mittens. She said the straps made it easy to pull on the shell, and then secure it tightly around her wrist. Pricey, but a good investment. I would definitely recommend this shell to wear over gloves/mittens to keep your hands dry in snow.

I've only used these gloves once but they did keep my hands warm whereas earlier in the day when I did not have them on, my hands got so cold they were hurting. They are a bit big and bulky for me but the strap kept them on my hands well and were still easy enough to take off when I needed more dexterity.

The old mitts I had always got wet. The new mitt cover keep the hands dry. Wish they came with mitts but a good pair of fleece gloves works just as well. It takes a bit of learning what the straps on the mitts do but everything works out. The mitts are just what I needed. If you are outside in snow working these mitts will keep the hands dry and safe.

On the tag attached to the mittens is is a graphic of the mitten being submerged in a fish aquarium guaranteed to keep you dry. They do! I had some LL Bean heavy duty winter gloves inside the shell mittens and worked for several hours out in the snow and my hands stayed warm and dry!! I can highly recommend them without hesitation or reservation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HuyC Alright shells, but very large.
I am usually a large in glove size, and I have to wear a small for these. They are very large, and even with the LL Bean insert mittens, it is still very roomy.
However, I love the fact that they are gauntlets, and the mittens go halfway up my forearm. This makes then awesome for snowboarding and working in the snow. I've never had snow go down my gloves.
I also enjoy the rubber in the grip. Makes holding objects very nice.
My only suggestion would be to make velcro so that the inserts can fit nicer!

Rated 5 out of 5 Waterproof, well made, durable
I had been on a search for simple, well-made goretex mitten shells to go over a pair of heavy-weight ragg wool mittens. I looked high and low in every corner of the internet, and it turns out LL Bean had just what I wanted the entire time.
These mitten shells are very well-made and sized perfectly. If you want to wear them over a size large mitten or glove, then you order the shells in a size large. I was a little concerned at my size choice since my wool mittens are rather bulky. Turns out the large was a perfect fit. The wool mittens fit inside snugly, but I still have plenty of dexterity. I also like the fact that the wool mittens stay in place when taking them off.
The wrist straps are a nice feature and allow you to seal them to prevent snow or rain from entering. The straps are easily adjustable even when wearing the shells.
If you are looking for a nice shell to protect your hands from getting wet during the winter months, then check these out. I think you'll find they do the job quite nicely.

I purchased the Mountain Guide System Gore-Tex Shell Mitts along with the Mountain Guide System Down Mittens for my wife who has always had problems finding a proper fitting mitten that actually keeps her hands warm and dry. I am happy to say that she absolutely loves these. She has been outside for hours at a time in the snow with our two dogs and for the first time isn't coming back inside with nearly frostbitten fingers. She's only had them for a short time but has been raving about them so much I'm planning on getting a pair for myself; I'm curious to see how they'll hold up while skiing.
