Rated 5 out of 5 by CivilWarNut Finally my hands are dry
The old mitts I had always got wet. The new mitt cover keep the hands dry. Wish they came with mitts but a good pair of fleece gloves works just as well. It takes a bit of learning what the straps on the mitts do but everything works out. The mitts are just what I needed. If you are outside in snow working these mitts will keep the hands dry and safe.

On the tag attached to the mittens is is a graphic of the mitten being submerged in a fish aquarium guaranteed to keep you dry. They do! I had some LL Bean heavy duty winter gloves inside the shell mittens and worked for several hours out in the snow and my hands stayed warm and dry!! I can highly recommend them without hesitation or reservation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HuyC Alright shells, but very large.
I am usually a large in glove size, and I have to wear a small for these. They are very large, and even with the LL Bean insert mittens, it is still very roomy.
However, I love the fact that they are gauntlets, and the mittens go halfway up my forearm. This makes then awesome for snowboarding and working in the snow. I've never had snow go down my gloves.
I also enjoy the rubber in the grip. Makes holding objects very nice.
My only suggestion would be to make velcro so that the inserts can fit nicer!

Rated 5 out of 5 Waterproof, well made, durable
I had been on a search for simple, well-made goretex mitten shells to go over a pair of heavy-weight ragg wool mittens. I looked high and low in every corner of the internet, and it turns out LL Bean had just what I wanted the entire time.
These mitten shells are very well-made and sized perfectly. If you want to wear them over a size large mitten or glove, then you order the shells in a size large. I was a little concerned at my size choice since my wool mittens are rather bulky. Turns out the large was a perfect fit. The wool mittens fit inside snugly, but I still have plenty of dexterity. I also like the fact that the wool mittens stay in place when taking them off.
The wrist straps are a nice feature and allow you to seal them to prevent snow or rain from entering. The straps are easily adjustable even when wearing the shells.
If you are looking for a nice shell to protect your hands from getting wet during the winter months, then check these out. I think you'll find they do the job quite nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 Warm and Toasty
I purchased the Mountain Guide System Gore-Tex Shell Mitts along with the Mountain Guide System Down Mittens for my wife who has always had problems finding a proper fitting mitten that actually keeps her hands warm and dry. I am happy to say that she absolutely loves these. She has been outside for hours at a time in the snow with our two dogs and for the first time isn't coming back inside with nearly frostbitten fingers. She's only had them for a short time but has been raving about them so much I'm planning on getting a pair for myself; I'm curious to see how they'll hold up while skiing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by horsecats Best Glove Combo Ever
I have suffered terrible Reynaud's syndrome for years. I've combined these perfectly waterproof and windproof mitts with boiled wool mittens (Dachstein) and for the first time in decades I can go out in any weather and my hands are not only not in pain, but they are warm and comfortable.
These mitts would be the perfect over mitt for any glove. They give coverage way past the wrist. The cinch bands at the hand keep them snug on the undermitten and the cinch bands at the end of the glove keep snow out of the top.
I'd recommend these over waterproof gloves/mittens themselves, because if you get moisture inside of them, you're wet. These keep moisture out altogether.
So a 10 plus for these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by HikerNJ Great over mitts for winter
I bought these as over-mitts for hiking in the winter/ snow conditions and they serve that purpose just fine. I use them with both merino or synthetic liners and they keep my hands warm despite the liner wetting out from perspiration. They are similar to but less rugged (outer material seems a little less robust and may have 1 less layer of goretex) than the higher priced OR Mt. Bakers but more rugged than the lower priced Mount Laurel design rain mitts. The seams are taped. Quality seems good. Perfect for winter hiking/ snowshoeing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RayMax A warm mitten shell
This warm mitten shell is part of the Mountain Guide System that provides up to three layers of protection with the fleece gloves and the down-filled mittens. The mitten shells are sturdy, well made, and comfortable. They are water repellant, wind proof and provide some warmth to the hands. I wouldn't wear them by themselves, but they are super with the fleece gloves and/or down-filled mittens. They seem a little pricey to me, but they keep my hands comfortable and warm without losing too much manual dexterity during outings in this exceptionally cold weather.
