I'm very happy with this mini Eton wind-up radio. While I haven't had to use it in an emergency yet (whew!!), I did unpack it and try it out for a little bit so that I would be ready when the time comes. Just a minute or two of cranking yields quite a bit of radio and flashlight time. It's comforting to know that even without any power I will be able to hear news reports of bad weather and have an emergency flashlight in case the batteries for my non-hand-crank flashlights die. The reception of the radio is quite good, and there are several different NOAA bands in addition to regular AM and PM bands. The unit also comes with a USB adaptor so that you can charge it from a computer if you don't feel like hand-cranking. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase and feel much more comfortable about entering into the spring tornado season.

Has everything anyone would want especially campers. I use it with earphone for great sound.. otherwise sound is ok for a small speaker.
Only negative involves dialing into a station. Very 'tricky' to tune a given station but once there stays on perfectly (no detuning)
It's a good value

I love this radio, I bought it as a secret santa gift over the holidays and was pleased that I ended up with it, ( not sure why no one else picked it first!) I recently bought another one for my Dad becuase he loves it too! so now we'll both have one! I highly recommend - it small and compact- and has a headphones jack so you can take it on walks and you never have to worry about batteries and/or loosing the charge because it has a crank! it is great for when you loose power

I'm not a techie, but one should not have to be to operate a radio. I got this smaller one assuming it would be simple.
I could not get any signal for any station, including local and NOAA. Heck, it's only turning a dial on this model. So the problem must be either bad reception in my neighborhood - or the radio is just not powerful enough to truly be labeled "emergency" use.
Disappointing as I'm in a tsunami/earthquake/100mph wind zone, with power outages and threats to life and property, and I am pretty much helpless here, being an old, disabled woman living alone. The local authorities never inform us with a 'reverse-911' call.
However, I don't blame the radio for that. I still am not sure if it might receive clearly in another area. If it worked better, the size is handy and the design is cute.

Had to send it back the day it arrived. AM and FM reception was fine, but there was no reception on the weather band. It was purchased for use as a weather radio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Snouser The perfect portable radio!
I bought one about three months ago and I use it every day for traffic reports and the weather forecast. I just got my second one last week and that will be in my desk at work. Spring is coming and we get lots of tornado warnings in North Texas! Really a great deal for thirty bucks!

This radio is exactly what I have been wanting and could not find. It is the right size with the right features plus the sound of a "big" radio. Win, win situation. Thank you, L. L. Bean, for another outstanding product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mts10 Great radio and light
I ordered this emergency radio because of all the snow storms and power outages we have had this year. It came in handy when the power went out. Only one drawback, the radio has a usb port for your cell phone to charge it but is not the right size for my phone, other than that it is a great item.
