Rated 1 out of 5 by Nanugran The Weather Band Works
If you only want the Weather Band with the electrical backup that Eton offers, then this radio may satisfy your needs. The AM and FM bands are almost useless. The FM band does not reject nearby frequencies when you try to tune a station, and the dial is virtually no help in finding a desired station. The AM band on the radio I received does not receive any AM stations except at the very upper end of the AM band - and then poorly. The radio was a nice idea but poorly executed - it does not reflect the quality of product that one expects from L.L.Bean.

This product is awesome...cranked it 30 revolutions and it lasted playing the radio for approximately 3 hours. Handy to have in the car or by the bedside - its a radio, weather radio AND a light. I am ready for power outages!

Compared to prior NOAA radio from LLBean, this is poorly constructed and has totally inadequate reception. This is not up to LLBean quality.

I bought this radio for the weatherband channels so I could have weather updates when camping or in situations where you have no other weather resource. It works! I has 7 weather bands and they work. The FM and the AM work as well. It will hold its charge by USB port for a long time. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by knitnow Great Emergency Item!
Quick shipping and item packed well. Easy to operate. (Make sure you have the antenna extended to get the best reception!). A few cranks takes you a long way. Got the weather station with no problem. Other stations just as clear and accessible. Nice size (hand-held). I like all the colors (especially blue) but chose the red one so to make it easier to spot in an emergency. Only thing I wish it had is attachments and cord to hang off of neck to help keep hands free during an emergency and have it easier to track when things get busy.

This radio is great. It has my othe Eaton crankable beat on ease of carry, and packable size, and the sound is so much better than expected! My choice of color was Yellow for visibility.

at first I was SO disappointed that I could not get it on an fm station. you need fm if and when there is an emergency. But, what I figured out, is crank the heck out of it, get the energy good and full and it's much better, not perfect, but better. the knob is loose and I guess that's in the construction. crank it hard and the light is brighter also. I love the light. I keep it with me everywhere in the house in case the lights go out. I've been outside with it lookin for my cats, so it's come in real useful for me. the volume is a bit low on NOAA and I'm not hard of hearing. it IS low. just barely worth 30.00. sorry llbean. I was going to send it back until I worked with it and now i'll keep. it's good to take for camping or you have a flashlight if you break down on the road or something. to get the most out of it, you gotta crank it up.

As an emergency weather radio, an emergency flashlight this item works as promoted. It is NO substitute for an AM/FM radio - the tuner stinks.

We had a power outage the day after this arrived and were able to spend the next 3 hours listening to the radio and having some light. We took turns cranking it when the sound started to get lower on the radio. Everybody should have one of these for the house and/or car.
We also bought them for our adult children who have used them for emergencies.

This is an OK little radio. It's a little larger than pocket size. The weather station (NOAA) has the best reception. I like AM because when a T-storm is arriving, you can hear the lightening as static, the closer, the louder. The antenna doesn't seem to make much difference in sound quality, but then I got this for the weather band, not for high fidelity! My only complaint is the white lettering on a light gray ring which shows which mode you're in. Black lettering would have been easier to see. Glad it has a rechargeable battery which can be charged via USB plug (goes into plug for iPhone and iPad) or the crank can be used. The flashlight is quite bright. The only thing missing is a solar panel for recharging!! This radio will go with me to places that don't have cell reception to get severe weather warnings.
