Rated 1 out of 5 by Beza Not the best construction
My child is a 3rd grader and has been wearing this pack to school for over a month now. Right away I noticed that the fit was weird, for the straps don't seem to fall over the shoulders and stay put, despite that my child is above average built. They keep trying to slide off. The construction is also not the best I've seen on a pack, materials are ok, but there is no back support. But the main problem is that the straps will slide through the buckle and so after a trip to school, the straps are already uneven. I worry about this causing back problems, for the weight in the pack will be distributed unevenly. Needless to say, LL Bean accepted the fault right away and refunded me for the pack with no hassle. But I do wish LL Bean would revise its pack and look for a better construction for them.

This book bag was primarily for my teenager who is extremely hard on book bags. They usually last a few days. Then ofcourse, their is the small tear in the shoulder staps that shortly turns into a loss of the strap. We've gone a whole 2 weeks with no tears. That's a new record in my book! I especially love the side mesh pockets for my child to have easy access to his water bottle he carries everyday to school. Great durability and design.

This is the second backpack I have bought this fall. Brother wanted one just like his brother's. Kids like the space for school papers and pockets when packing for a trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CachingBrat Perfect for my use
I was worried that it would be too small for me to use at school, but I never put binders or folders into my bag anyway. On occasion I do put them in, and they fit fine, same with a good sized textbook. I love this bag, but if you plan to put many binders or textbooks in, you probably won't like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by VaScienceTeacher Good Pack, Too Small
We got this pack for my 6th grade son for school to replace the LL Bean bookbag that he'd used since Kindergarten (and is still in great shape)! The quality is very good and its a great day pack, but it is not nearly big enough for his school needs. It actually narrows at the top so even fitting 2 binders in is too tight, add a lunchbox to it and it is way too small. My son still loves the pack, but we actually had to return a 2" zipper binder because it would not even zip closed at the top. A great day bag for hiking or a younger child, but it is too narrow and thin to accommodate school needs for older kids

Rated 5 out of 5 by BufordWolfie Easy to carry!
I got the bag for my daughter to help distribute the weight of her school things more evenly. She can carry her things more comfortably now. The weight rests more against her back instead of pulling away. She is tall (48 inches tall) and thin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RCIves2000 Great fit
Purchased for both kids for school. They love them!! Plenty of pockets to put their school stuff in including their LLBean lunch box. Kids have said they are very comfortable even fully loaded. Straps are comfortable and no pinching. I highly recommend this backpack

Rated 3 out of 5 by LLBeanShopperFL Nice Backpack but to Small
My 9 1/2 year old 4th grader has been carrying this pack for a month. While the construction of the pack is sound and nice looking, we find it to be to small for his needs. The pack fills up quickly with binders, books and notebooks. If your child likes to place their lunch box in the pack it makes for an extremely tight fit. I love LLBean. They make quality stuff. This is the 2nd backpack we have purchased through them. My son's 1st pack was the original jr back pack which he carried for two years. It's still in excellent condition but he outgrew the pattern. I was hoping to get two years out of this pack however he is already asking me to purchase a larger pack to fit his stuff. If your son or daughter does not carry a lot of stuff to and from school I would highly recommend. If they are carrying multiple items I would suggest a larger back pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chalks Perfect backpack for 3rd grade
I was in search of the 'right' backpack/bookpack for my 3rd grade grandson and this one is it! It has a separate sleeve for his homework folder and assignment notebook with plenty of room in the same compartment for lunchbox and books or sneakers or clothing. There is another pocket where there are some dividers for pencils, sunglasses, or anything they like to carry with them. The outer mesh pouch will be perfect to stash gloves and hat when he removes them during the winter. This pack is plenty roomy without being too big and bulky. There are 2 water bottle pouches on either side and they are deeper than the other Bean backpack he had. I just love it!!!
