Rated 5 out of 5 by itsmillertime Another Awesome Bag!!
We bought this one for our 10 year old (the Sail Orange color). He loves it! There's plenty of room for his books, snacks, water bottle, etc, etc. We especially like the mesh pocket in the front - he likes to stick his jacket in there when he's not wearing it. It's a very sturdy, well-made backpack and I'm confident he'll be using this one for years to come!

Rated 4 out of 5 by HoustonCarKidsMom Depth from top to bottom varies a lot
I was looking for a backpack similar in size/capacity to the Original Book Pack, but with outside pockets for water bottles. OBP is 1404 sq in. This is 1350 sq in. So I tired it.
I found what another reviewer said, that it narrows at the top. For clarification, the interior depth of the bag in the main compartment - where binders, textbooks go - is about 5.5" at the base/bottom of the bag, but only just slightly over 3" in depth at the top. So the interior is not a rectangle or a rectangle with rounded corners.
Depending on your needs, it may work for you. But it wasn't what I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Litehiker1 Perfect day hike pack
I bought and returned probably 20 packs before finding this one. I needed a day hiking pack that could also work for other things like a seat bag on a flight or for a quick bike trip to the library. The perfect features this pack has that were so hard to find all together in other packs are as follows: 1. It stands up on its own. Why would you want a pack that falls over when you put it down. 2. It has no hip belt. Not needed for a pack this size. It is always comfortable even when fully loaded. 3. No compression straps all over the place. Again, not needed on a pack this size. 4. Perfect amount and placement of pockets/compartments. 5. Lightweight. A day pack shouldn't start at 3 pounds empty. 6. No zipper flaps to get stuck in the zipper. Zippers are beefy and work smoothly every time. A rain cover or small trash bag is more effective anyway. 7. Shallow depth. One doesn't look like a pack mule when wearing the pack. Will be buying two more to put away for the future as I have found my perfect day pack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by foreveramom Good pack for the money
We've been through backpacks before, but the wearability on this pack seems sturdy and well-made. I'm also very happy with the number of compartments in the backpack and the size. Our only hesitation is with the straps. Without a center snap that connects the straps in front, the backpack is wobbly and difficult to keep on. He's adjusting to it and its fine, but it's taken a while. Still, a good pack overall.

The bookbag looks awesome and feels great. But it's smaller than we thought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by parkeedooo Great!
I ordered these bags (Citron and Orange) for my boys aged 7. They feel very comfortable. Seems to be well made. Lots of pockets. Easy to zip. Lots of options to hang key chains to personalize. And best of all, the side pocket for water bottles is very spacious.
I will definitely update if it lasts a year with no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Thinkoutsidethebox Compact yet roomy pack
I ordered this for my husband to use on the back of his power wheelchair (he has MS). We are a young couple and even as he has become more disabled are still active outdoors and love the quality and design of LLBean products. I chose this pack because it seemed to have a lot of room despite its smaller size when compared with some of the other packs and had a good design of easily accessible yet secure exterior pockets. We were thrilled when we put it on the back of his wheelchair because it has a slim profile yet still fits and organizes all of his necessities and then some! The padded shoulder straps are comfortable against my husband's back when he is in his wheelchair with the pack on the back of the chair. I know it seems unconventional and not what it is advertised for, but this is really the perfect wheelchair bag!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Beza Not the best construction
My child is a 3rd grader and has been wearing this pack to school for over a month now. Right away I noticed that the fit was weird, for the straps don't seem to fall over the shoulders and stay put, despite that my child is above average built. They keep trying to slide off. The construction is also not the best I've seen on a pack, materials are ok, but there is no back support. But the main problem is that the straps will slide through the buckle and so after a trip to school, the straps are already uneven. I worry about this causing back problems, for the weight in the pack will be distributed unevenly. Needless to say, LL Bean accepted the fault right away and refunded me for the pack with no hassle. But I do wish LL Bean would revise its pack and look for a better construction for them.

This book bag was primarily for my teenager who is extremely hard on book bags. They usually last a few days. Then ofcourse, their is the small tear in the shoulder staps that shortly turns into a loss of the strap. We've gone a whole 2 weeks with no tears. That's a new record in my book! I especially love the side mesh pockets for my child to have easy access to his water bottle he carries everyday to school. Great durability and design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KCKR Spacious appealing color choices
This is the second backpack I have bought this fall. Brother wanted one just like his brother's. Kids like the space for school papers and pockets when packing for a trip.
