Rated 4 out of 5 by shorewoman Comfortable, good fit and attractive
After reading the reviews for this shoe, I was hesitant to purchase. I chose the green because I thought it was really pretty (it is!) and to my surprise, I love them! They fit well and I made it all the way through my first day of work with very comfortable feet. Got lots of complements too! I like the elastic at the back-holds the shoe in place well. They could have a little more padding, but what's there is okay for an average work day.

I originally purchased this particular style & color (metallic) for a little dressier look with my summer attire. Never expecting the comfort and versatility of these shoes, I am pleasantly surprised and will be purchasing additional colors in the LL Bean skimmer collection. These shoes are extremely comfortable, versatile, and durable. I purchased size 7 M (my normal size) and wear them with skinnies, rolled-up jeans, shorts, and skirts.

Purchased these in March and they are very cute, however, they are a killer to my ankles. The leather is not soft and pliable but very stiff. Have been trying to break them in but it is just not happening! These will have to go back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by nightgale My personal opinion
I was ready to like these in the soft sable color, and the fit seemed fine, but on my feet they seemed a bit dorky looking. The squared shape from the sides to the top of the shoe, and strange toe box, might be the cause.
On a young person, this would not matter, but I'm over 50 and my flats must look cute, otherwise they look frumpy. Perhaps in the black options this odd-shape aspect would not be as apparent.
This is just a personal impression, maybe others think they look adorable. The leather seemed good quality.

I bought two pairs of these shoes and I love them! The fit is perfect (size 8) and I wear them all day with no problems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by mconar Couldn't break in, not enough support
One of my friends enthusiastically recommended these to me as all purpose, easy and classic black flats. She did warn me that they were tough to break-in, adding that they were worth the initial blisters once they were a bit worn.
That being said, my girl has flat feet, and my arches couldn't be higher. Not even taking into account how much they rubbed the back of my foot, these just don't offer enough support for me.
My quest for the perfect black flats continues!

I've had several pairs of flats from L.L. Bean and LOVED them.
The good: they're a tiny bit narrow, but generally fit well.
The bad: unfortunately, these are not up to the normal L.L. Bean standards. They have almost no arch support and the foot bed seems to have zero padding. The first couple of times I wore them, I got blisters on my heel and toe. Not a big deal, that happens sometimes with new shoes.
However, I've been trying to wear these once or twice a week for the last couple months and I am consistently getting blisters. The foot bed is cracking and bunching, which rubs against the bottom of my foot painfully. The foot bed is a plasticky/pleathery material - not soft and comfy like their flats used to be.
I've probably worn these shoes 10 times and this is probably the last time. I hope they bring back the higher quality flats that they used to have! I may still return them, but the hassle is almost not worth it for the cost.

I ordered my usual sneaker size (10) and they're waaaay too large. The elastic-y backs bunched and look weird. I probably wear a 9 or 9.5 in this shoe (which often happens in different shoe types and makes). I will be returning them and probably wont reorder but not because they aren't cute and lovely, just because its winter now and I need something warmer :-) LLbean rocks.

I bought these last fall in the embossed wine color, which I would call more oxblood than burgundy. I love the color, I love the embossing. In shoes, I usually stick to black and brown, and keep only a few pairs of versatile shoes at a time, so I love the subtle pop of color and interesting texture, that's still pretty neutral. They work really well with navy, olive, black and white, denim, and pretty much everything else.
The elastic was a little uncomfortable at first, but loosened up after wear. It does tend to cause runs in stockings and less-sturdy tights, so I mostly wear them barefoot. There isn't a lot of support here, but they fit well so that hasn't caused me a problem.

I love LL Bean, and have never ordered a pair of shoes or clothing that wasn't comfortable or at least made of a nice material until I bought these shoes. The back of the shoes at the elastic are horribly uncomfortable! I wore them for approx 1/2 hr and couldn't get out of them fast enough. I ordered them based solely on the 4 stars but didn't read the complaints until after I wore them. My conclusion is that if I have to wear band aids until they break in, they aren't for me. They are very cute and otherwise comfy, but it doesn't make up for the blisters.
