Rated 4 out of 5 by rufusT Good summer weight
I bought these for our typical hot muggy summer weather 95F-95%. These pants are a perfect weight. They are very casual, so don't buy these to look "well-pressed." I was advised by my in-house fashion consultant they look best while worn with a shirttail out. OK...so if I have to wear long trousers, these are nice and cool.

Great pants in all aspects. Holds a tad more wrinkles than perfect but pretty darn close.

Phoenix tends to get very warm and long pants can be a pain. This pair of pants is comfortable even in 100deg. Quality is excellent as I expected from LL Bean.

Have had more than a dozen pairs over the years. Hold up well to weekly trips to the cleaners. Colors are sometimes a little wierd. Otherwise these are great. Plan to buy many more.

Bought a pair for my husband last year and he asked for more. They were his go to travel pants last summer, especially when he wanted to wear shorts but not common or as acceptable in a foreign culture. They do wrinkle but neaten out on their own and they are cut wide in the leg so if you like a slim cut, you may not like them. The fabric is soft and has a brushed, semi- worn look, but still neat enough to dress up with a nice shirt.

I was looking for tropic weight chinos, and these seemed to fit the bill.
They truly were "tropic weight chinos".
In the past I've found LL Bean pants to be generous sizing through the waist and body. However, that was not true of these pants.
To the contrary, the waist was a somewhat tight 36" and the body was less full than I require.
I would say the fit was designed for a younger person more than my more mature body.

It is the widest pants my husband ever tried. Size 34: 23 inches wide at the knee, 27 inches at thigh (5 inches below the crotch). Measure your hubby and ask if he would like to walk around in two big skirts and extra space behind. Ladies, maybe it is for us to try.

First, a big thank you to Bean for bringing the Tropic-Weight pants back in a traditional plain front style.
I have 5 pair of the 'new' style and 3 pair of the older styles. I live in the south and it's surprisingly difficult to find nice lightweight everyday khakis. The Tropic Weight pants are a good value and I would recommend these pants.
I agree with the posters that noted the fabric is not as light as earlier models. To me, when new the fabric has a 'peached' type finish that's not really good for steamy conditions. That said, the pants do improve with age and are some of my favorite pants.
The British Khaki is a different shade than you might expect but it's grown on me, the taupe is a lighter shade than pictured and is great.
My suggestions for the suggestion box are: add a another shade of khaki, add a canvas waist liner, add odd waist sizes and give a cuffed hem option.
