I am outside a lot in our Wyoming winter with the snow and the wind. This coat is fabulous and it is so lightweight! Love how warm I stay without feeling very bulky! A must for anyone outside in frigid winters!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Fuzby Mostly good so far
I recently purchased this coat as a travel-friendly alternative to a tremendously warm - but very heavy & bulky - long down coat I've had for years. I was attracted to the lightweight features. I took the coat on a recent trip to a conference, where I knew I'd be walking around outside quite a bit, and wintry weather was predicted. Indeed, it was cold and snowy. The coat kept me comfortably warm in weather in the 20s with wind and blowing snow. The water-resistance was good, and I appreciated the slightly shorter hood, which made it easier for me to see where I was going. Like some others, I would have preferred the wonderful fleece cuffs I enjoy on other LLBean coats/jackets to the elastic cuffs on this one. I also find the zipper rather balky to operate. Otherwise, this is VERY lightweight and easy to pack, and performs well. Time will tell if it can really handle the well-below-zero temps advertised......

Rated 5 out of 5 by Marg1e Can't Wait to Wear it!
As winter hasn't really set in yet, I can only rate this coat with what I know so far. It is beautifully designed and, of course, very warm.
I do have one criticism, however, about which I feel very strongly. I am surprised at L.L.Bean that the designers cheapened the looks of the coat by placing their logo very visibly not only on one, but also on both lower sleeve areas, After all, women of all ages are wearing these coats; they are not on the ski slopes or in the bowling alleys wearing them. To me, these are lovely-looking coats whose appearance is marred by the starkness of the logos. Only in a very light color, such as "Shadow" are the logos not necessarily noticeable. They definitely stand out on any of the other coats like a beacon.

I love this coat! I'm 5'4 and a size 14 petite. I bought a size petite XL and it has enough room for a thick sweater. I like that I can cross my arms in front of me and the coat isn't too tight at all. It's perfect! I walk daily and this coat is perfect for that...it barely makes any noise while walking, allowing me to hear nature and not my sleeves rubbing. As I get warm I can adjust the zipper to cool down. I almost can't wait for much colder weather because this coat keeps me so warm! I have no excuses now for not walking!

Rated 5 out of 5 by casitahome My Best Warm Winter Coat!!
I live in Chicago, so I need a warm coat. This one is by far the warmest one I own and great quality for the price. The coat is actually very light and at first, you may think that it can't withstand the cold, whipping winds of winter. That is the beauty of this coat. Even though it more a packable-type coat, it really does keep me warm! Having the extra length with your coat down your legs is the key thing as well as having a hood. I am 5'5", 135 lbs., and the Size Small (Size 6-8) fit me just fine with room for a sweater under it. Be warned that these coats sell out fast come winter, so if you wait too long for a big sale, many sizes will be sold out for the season. I bought min in November last year and I am glad that I did. You will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jebebe Love this coat
After leaving this coat on an airplane last winter I recently bought another one. I do not like to be cold. I put this coat on when it drops below 45 degrees and don't take it off until spring. The other magical feature is that it balls up into a tiny space. It's really fun to be at the airport when everyone is watching you try to shove this seemingly giant coat into a small pocket while at the counter checking your bags. You can hear them laughing while you keep tucking away, and in no time at all, voila! ZIP. Look back at those chuckling folks and smile - a small victory that will stay with you. It's light, it's warm, and it makes me glad it's winter (which is not like me). I also credit this coat for making me a better mother. I am happy to go on long walks on frigid days with my kiddos (again, I'm not the outdoorsy type). The other thing is that sometime this winter it will sell out and you will lose your chance at it, so be mindful of that. If you want it, get it. You won't be let down.

Worth spending the extra $$ to get the best - especially for the quality. Really light and warm! Would definitely recommend to others

Beautiful coat, very slimming--which is welcome during this season of the polar bears. Will report on the coat's promised warmth and protection from wind and water as we move into winter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by CurlyGurl Not quite what I wanted...
The coat was below my knees, and unflattering length (looked matronly). It was also too wide, making me look frumpy. There was no wind flap over the zipper, and no internal waste cinch cord inside to keep the wind at bay and/or give it a more flattering fit. And finally, there were no internal wrist cuffs to keep the snow from getting up into the sleeves. It's all about the details! I sent the coat back.
