Rated 5 out of 5áby workwoman Stands up to heavy rain & still looks stylish
I've had my last couple of Bean coats for well over a decade now, my favorite being my Tuckerman 3-in-1 from long ago. The shell on that finally gave up its waterproof qualities after some years of hard wear, but I'm still wearing the liner and I've been looking for a new shell that I could combine with my old liner or my new Ascent Packaway vests & jacket. This shell would normally be out of my price range, but the sale price and good reviews made me take a risk. I'm really glad I did: I love it!
I liked the style and fit right away. It feels nice and slimming, not too bulky. I got a size S because I find that XS usually doesn't have enough room for free arm movement across the shoulders. (I am 5'6" and 120# with long arms & a long torso.) The small is perfect. I can wear it with heavy layers underneath or alone. The sleeves are fine on me, and I really like the body length for keeping the midsection warm.
I was able to try it out today in heavy December rains and driving wind, and I'm happy to report that I was very pleased with its performance. I wore only a Packaway vest underneath, and the shell really blocked the wind, keeping me warm with active movement (I would have needed more underlayers if I had not been working hard). I was also nice & dry in torrential rain with a temp of 34 degrees. The hood also kept my glasses mostly dry, which was pretty amazing given the wind & rain. I think the hood would fit better over a heavy hat. It's a little stiff and bulky on its own, but it got the job done all right.
One of the other things I really liked about this fabric is that is is not too crinkly like some shells. It feels quite comfortable and doesn't make too much noise. Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and would recommend this jacket highly.

VERY weather resistant, yet breathes extremely well. Can layer for any season.

Perfect petite fit, great quality, looks good, exactly what I was looking for. The assistant on the LLBean chat feature led me to a terrific find, and it was on sale!

Rated 5 out of 5áby skwerlgal Great shell!
Went through a very cold wind and snow storm with this jacket 1st time out. Had a medium weight layer underneath and was comfortable. I bought a petite and found the sleeve length still plenty long. Very wind and water proof which is why a medium layer is enough even in the cold. Now that spring is here I am still wearing it everyday. Great fit, great looks and quality you can expect with LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5áby dogsrpeople2 Will be perfect for damp Oregon
I bought this jacket for dog and beach walking in rainy Oregon. I love the color [green] for visibility; the pockets are all great -- love the interior pockets which are great for keys, phone, clean-up bags, etc. The sleeves are a bit long [I'm 5'2" and ordered a petite] but better that than too short. The hood is adjustable which is a huge plus for me [no more hood drooping over my face!]. LOVE the double zipper.
If I were Queen, I would like the body to be about 4" longer -- both for coverage from the rain and style. I contemplated a regular size for the body length, but knew I would tripping over the sleeves.
All in all, I'm happy.

Rated 5 out of 5áby YellowOrangeRed Excellent technical jacket
I have been using this jacket for about six months, mainly spring/fall for hiking in rainy weather. The main reason I chose it is that the Petite XL sleeves are short enough to fit properly. True to size. (Thanks for Petite, LLBean!)
The stretch fabric is excellent, pockets are easy to use, length is good, and the drawcord at waist is flattering and keeps wind from blowing up the jacket. The pit zips are very useful and easy to open/close. Front zip is smooth and zips up high for good neck/chin coverage if needed. My one hesitation is the hood. It is very large, apparently intended to fit over a helmet -- I found it quite difficult to adjust the three drawcords on the hood for comfortable use without a helmet. Chronically annoying. Finally this week I think I have it right. Yes, I recommend this jacket!

Rated 3 out of 5áby Coco20 Nice quality but fit could be improved
The jacket material and weight are nice, and the blue is a great color...but the sizing is way off (though this is a common problem across LLBean). I really wish this had fit. The petite XS is really big. I'm 5'3" and swimming in it, so I'll have to return it.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Foggedin Wondering about the sleeve cuffs..
Have a feeling the cuffs were designed to fit over heavy ski gloves. They seem big and loose to me, and wind-driven rain would go right up them if you were out hiking with poles. Anyone have this experience? Otherwise, very nice jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5áby kbfsc Men's zipper pull
Online information separated out a cheaper darker blue jacket (which I bought) from the remaining colors, and I am not sure whether these comments also apply to the latter. I like my jacket except for two things. As usual for petite articles from LLBean, the sleeves are much too long and have to be rolled up. Second, the zipper pull is like that on men's clothing (on left side), rather than the right-side pull on women's clothing. Could the sleeve length be related to this actually being a men's jacket? I don't know.

Rated 5 out of 5áby westcoastoutdoorlover Great new design
I have been waiting for several seasons to replace my goretex ski jacket. This is the one. In comparison to the last few years, this jacket is a bit longer but still, fitted. For the last 6 weeks I have been wearing it alpine skiing , show shoeing, cross country skiing , and just hanging out at Whistler. on the west coast, which can be very wet and cold. I have been totally happy with this jacket. although it was quite a bit more expensive than many others I tried. I usually wear petitie large, but chose to keep the petitie XL so that I could layer enough extra clothes for cold ski days.
My only complaint is that the rest of the Ascent wear does not cooridinate well with this jacket in the light aqua ( a lovey colour) . It goes ( just ) with the pine colour of the ascent packaway jacket, but I think it actually looks better with the gunmetal grey (the inside of the jacket is silver). More disappointingly, the power stretch ascent jacket in algiers blue, which looks like it mgiht go with this ascent jacket, looks terrible with it.
It would be helpful if LL Bean identified what would go with a jacket like this and if a series like the Ascent series actually cooridinated., But the jacket iteself is fabulous.
