One of my friends enthusiastically recommended these to me as all purpose, easy and classic black flats. She did warn me that they were tough to break-in, adding that they were worth the initial blisters once they were a bit worn.
That being said, my girl has flat feet, and my arches couldn't be higher. Not even taking into account how much they rubbed the back of my foot, these just don't offer enough support for me.
My quest for the perfect black flats continues!

I've had several pairs of flats from L.L. Bean and LOVED them.
The good: they're a tiny bit narrow, but generally fit well.
The bad: unfortunately, these are not up to the normal L.L. Bean standards. They have almost no arch support and the foot bed seems to have zero padding. The first couple of times I wore them, I got blisters on my heel and toe. Not a big deal, that happens sometimes with new shoes.
However, I've been trying to wear these once or twice a week for the last couple months and I am consistently getting blisters. The foot bed is cracking and bunching, which rubs against the bottom of my foot painfully. The foot bed is a plasticky/pleathery material - not soft and comfy like their flats used to be.
I've probably worn these shoes 10 times and this is probably the last time. I hope they bring back the higher quality flats that they used to have! I may still return them, but the hassle is almost not worth it for the cost.

I ordered my usual sneaker size (10) and they're waaaay too large. The elastic-y backs bunched and look weird. I probably wear a 9 or 9.5 in this shoe (which often happens in different shoe types and makes). I will be returning them and probably wont reorder but not because they aren't cute and lovely, just because its winter now and I need something warmer :-) LLbean rocks.

I bought these last fall in the embossed wine color, which I would call more oxblood than burgundy. I love the color, I love the embossing. In shoes, I usually stick to black and brown, and keep only a few pairs of versatile shoes at a time, so I love the subtle pop of color and interesting texture, that's still pretty neutral. They work really well with navy, olive, black and white, denim, and pretty much everything else.
The elastic was a little uncomfortable at first, but loosened up after wear. It does tend to cause runs in stockings and less-sturdy tights, so I mostly wear them barefoot. There isn't a lot of support here, but they fit well so that hasn't caused me a problem.

I love LL Bean, and have never ordered a pair of shoes or clothing that wasn't comfortable or at least made of a nice material until I bought these shoes. The back of the shoes at the elastic are horribly uncomfortable! I wore them for approx 1/2 hr and couldn't get out of them fast enough. I ordered them based solely on the 4 stars but didn't read the complaints until after I wore them. My conclusion is that if I have to wear band aids until they break in, they aren't for me. They are very cute and otherwise comfy, but it doesn't make up for the blisters.

I purchased these a couple months ago, but today is the first day I've worn them all day--fresh from the box. I got so many compliments on these that I was back on the site searching for the link to send to my friends who want a pair that I figured I'd write a review on day 1. Out of the box, these are comfortable & required no breaking in period. I wear a lot of flip flops, so my feet have spread, but no problems whatsoever in these. I read the comments on the back elastic cutting in; this has not been a problem for me. Perhaps these reviewers need to go a half size up? Anyway, highly recommend. I bought the metallic brown snake print in an 8. It's true to size, super cute with jeans, & comfy to boot. What's not to love?

I bought these on a whim. I needed brown flats for work. I am six feet tall with long, flat feet. I generally wear a medium width shoe. These shoes are my favorite! They are casual enough to pair with jeans and dressy enough to wear with work pants. The elastic gathering at the heel was uncomfortable for perhaps a day and then it's as if this shoe molded to match my foot! I wish they had more colors because I would buy them. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CanChick Comfortable and so practical
I bought a pair of these in black last spring and wear them all the time. Work equally well with a skirt or fitted pant. Professional enough to wear to work and comfortable enough to wear if that entire day is on your feet. I wear these for 24hr call shifts all the time. My only complaint is that my size is not available in the cherry red. Please re-stock that colour!

by Diana299 Very comfortable shoe!
I have two pair of these shoes and they are the most comfy shoes I have ever worn. And the wear well, they still look new and I have worn them just about every day for a year. They run true to size. LOVE them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by beanreview cute shoes, ok shoes
This is a pair of good-looking shoes. I got the metallic ones and they are very cute. I may be a little harsh in my review, because I ask a lot of my shoes. I walk a lot every day and need shoes that will feel good all day. These are decent flats for someone who doesn't do a lot of walking. I need significant arch support, more padding, and possibly thicker soles. I would rate them a 3 for how they meet my needs, but I will give them a 4 because they do a good job of being basic flats.
