My son and I purchased for trout fishing in WV. By the end of day two during our five day trip I couldn't walk in them any more. My son was uncomfortable also. We could not wear the boots anymore that week due to the upper being so stiff around the ankles. We didn't have a back up so we could only fish areas we could reach from dry land the rest of the week. This was my first time without felt. The traction of the boot was great!

I just got back from a 3 day fishing trip. I used these boots the first 4 hours of the trip and then took them off because they were so uncomfortable.
At first, I thought they were providing good support, though a bit stiff. After two hours, they were so uncomfortable, I was tempted to walk the long trek back to the car just to take them off. They rubbed against my ankles so bad, they bruised my ankles. They are so stiff and inflexible, I think it would take a year to break them in enough to be comfortable; if they would break in at all.
Frankly, I was shocked how uncomfortable they were. I will never wear them again. I have bought LL Bean equipment and clothing for years, and this is the first time I have ever written a review. I am so disappointed with these, and was lucky to have my old boots with me on this trip.
Don't buy these boots.

Good boot however I found that they were slippery on most surfaces. if you are not wading in large western rivers they are probably okay.

Though my wife splurged and gave me the two-day fly fishing course in Freeport for my birthday a year and a half ago (which was excellent!) I'm on a snug budget and have been assembling my gear slowly, one piece at a time. Waders and boots were the last on my list. (I've contented myself with getting my sneakers wet or casting from my canoe until now.) I was worried that the low-cost Flyweight waders and these Emerger boots wouldn't be sturdy or comfortable enough, but I have been proved wrong. For those who can afford better equipment, I'm sure there are many advantages to be had. For the price, however, these are excellent.
I was able to get the boots on an in-house sale, but the store didn't have my size. The salesperson called Bean, explained the situation and handed the phone over. The person on the other end was pleasant and efficient. It was late on a Saturday afternoon and I was told I would have my boots on Tuesday . . . and Monday was a holiday. When I got home from work Tuesday, there was a box from L.L. bean on my porch.
I have always been extremely satisfied with L.L. Bean's products and customer service; this latest purchase is just one more reason why I continue to be a loyal customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Theflymanjim Traction, support, & comfort
When I purchased my Emerger II Wading Boots I was a bit worried that there was no felt. All worries disappeared with the first use. My river is very slippery, the Emerger II gave outstanding traction even in the fastest current. The uppers gave my ankles great support. There comfort was evident with the first full day of fishing!

First of all, you get what you pay for. Waders and wading boots are expensive. I tried to save a few bucks on boots and that was my mistake.
I just spent a week plus of spring fishing in Montana. After the third day these boots had rubbed my ankle bone and became quite uncomfortable to wear. Luckily a local friend in Bozeman had a pair of boots (different brand) that fit me. So I ditched these boots and wore his for the rest of the trip.
While I do believe these boots present a fair value relative to the cost, I would not recommend them to a serious fisherman. They did not work for me, but they may be just fine for someone else.
I am a big fan of LL Bean and believe they do good work and present good products at fair value. (I was quite happy with my new LL Bean waders) In fact, I have never written a review of any product before. I simply want to share my experience and urge buyers to make a considered choice. I chose the wrong boot for the type and amount of fishing that I do. Now I am going to spend more money to buy another pair of boots that do work. This time I will research a bit better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mnskinny Lightweight and solid
First, I was really happy with the customer service when I called to order these boots and some other things. These are my first pair of wading boots to go with my first pair of stocking foot waders and I was worried about sizing. I didn't want to mess with sending them back several times to get the right size. The representative told me to order my normal size, and that they figured on stocking foot waders with medium weight socks underneath. Perfect right out of the box.
I've had them out a couple of times now and I'm impressed with the combination of support and light weight. They're comfy for a whole day banging around in and out of the stream. As one reviewer mentioned, there's no microscreen behind the drain holes. This isn't a huge problem for the rivers I fish, but I can see where you might end up with a bit of fine sand or silt in your boots.
Overall, great lightweight boot and a good value as well.

I bought these for my daughter so we could fly fish together. they are true to size and appear well made. They have a nice sole, not great but nice. Would like to see cleats made for them.

With all the previous purchases we've made from ' Bean' I shouldn't be surprised that these wader boots fit and look better than I expected. And with the LLBean sizing guide, I was able to purchase a perfect fit! Thanks, AGAIN. We love LLBean!

I will be returning this item. I normally wear a size 9.5 so i ordered a 10. it was way to big. So I am going to return this in the hope the other size is right.
