Rated 5 out of 5 by Spudmo Fly Reel Review
I was really concerned that the Quest II would be cheaply made and perform cheap as well. Boy was I ever surprised! This reel is great! It is smooth, the drag works really good and it is light weight. This is not a beginners reel.i am pleased with my purchase.

This reel is an easy answer for an amateur trying not to break the bank. You sacrifice a lot of strength with the plastic material this reel is made from, but it functions flawlessly if you treat it right.
I managed to break the reel seat on my first a couple days after getting it. My own fault as I closed it in the trunk lid. Then I managed to break the reel handle off when I got the reel caught between some rocks at a local river and pulled it free.
Over all I am very happy with the performance but as the sales man in Freeport told me, "You sacrifice a lot when you get the plastic reel."
So I advise the next step up, but know that with LL Bean's satisfaction guarantee, you can't go wrong with this reel either.

This is a great reel for the price. I am using it for ice fishing, so take the review for what it is worth, but I have found the drag to be smother than most reels this price. This reel is well built, and it feels great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by caliente weight of reel is wrong
i purchased this reel for my 5 wt fly rod and the specs on the website said 4.9 oz. the weight was very important to me because the fly rod i just bought is very light and needs to match it with a light reel. when i got the reel from llbean it seemed heavy and i weighed it. it was 5.4 oz. other than misled weight, the reel is good for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Flyfisherman128 Great composite
I bought this as a spare for my 3wt rod. It felt great. Then pulled the line out and the drag is absolutely silky smooth. I have expensive reels that aren't this smooth. I showed it to a professional fly fisherman and he said it was the best constructed composite he has ever seen.

A very nice reel. It just feels right. I bought a spare spool too, so I have both floating & sinking tip lines ready at a moments notice. It goes well with a 9' travel rod. If you are a 'southpaw', don't despair! Open the little Instructions & Maintenance pdf file, and you will have the direction of retrieve switched over in under a minute!

This is a very good reel for general fly-fishing if one uses an 8 1/2 ft or longer rod. After adding a line and small amount of backing, the "reel" weighs 5.3 ozs. and overbalances shorter fly-rods. L.L.Bean does not make a lighter reel to accommodate short, light rods. I purchased a few of these Quest reels for use at Scout Camps and they have worked well with our Scouts. This is a very good and very durable item. Try one! You'll like it!

I was skeptical about a $29 fly reel (smallest size), but needed one really light to fit balanced on an inexpensive but nice 3wt. rod. The large arbor is great! The drag is smooth. It works fine for light weight tackle (trout, crappie, small bass, mostly, but has the wherewithal to bring in a 24 lb blue cat on a san juan worm no less!). Five star rating, and may well buy a larger one for 8-9wt saltwater!

I bought the Quest version in a set up with a pack rod (when they were 5 piece - not 8) I was trying to save a bit of cash...and it was a 8wt set up for gulf trip and stripers back home...I just don't fish heavy like this a lot so thought I'd try the less expensive version.
Have to admit - this reel 'just works'. It's intuitive...which I found out was really nice when getting towed around by a redfish in our kayaks and/or canoe by a big redfish. Reel is well designed, seems to be holding up fine, and being as it's not metal...salt water isn't a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by troutflybum A great deal on a reel.
I have two of these, they work so well that you sort of just forget about them. I would buy another without any hesitation. There is nothing cheep about their performance.
