Rated 3 out of 5 by BigDaddyCincinnati Why are these shoes so big?
Bought these shoes, but had to return them. Really nice shoes, but they are much larger than the stated shoe size. I wear a 13 and I literally walked right out of these things. Would have tried ordering a size 12, but had to pay LLBean $6.50 to return the 13s. Didn't want to pay another $6.50 if the 12s didn't fit. ...

I got these in the other day and popped them out of the box and put them right on they fit PERFECTLY and the leather was of exceptional quality. The moderately lugged sole will keep me up out of the wet etc. They look real good on your feet with slacks or jeans. I am going to have to stop reading other customer reviews because there were a lot of seemingly negative responses on this shoe. That has hardly been the case with me because they are EXACTLY what I wanted and expected.

These shoes run very large, which is frustrating when ordering. I wish Bean could get a true size for these shoes. Size is one size larger in reality. Should have been corrected long ago.

I bought these shoes and have enjoyed them. They are comfortable and are a good looking shoe. I wear these with business casual as well as jeans.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Giffer Comfortable, run large
Purchased my first pair. Normally wear size 13 but these loafers run large. Returned for size 12 that are comfortable. I wear these shoes two days a week in an office setting. If not for the fact that I purchased these on sale I would also return the second pair due to the poor quality stitch material. I will be lucky if they will last a year. This is the first suspect quality item purchased after many years as a loyal customer.

This is a very well made loafer, and being retired and living in Florida this is just about all i wear, Very high quality and good fit, but i t will take a few wearing s to break in, I recommend wearing for a few hours each day and after a week or so they will fit fine....

You will see that instructions are to wear for a while before deciding. When I received my 12D shoes I could barely get them even on my feet. Thank god they included a shoe horn. I considered sending them back but I never return anything(That's just me) So I jammed them on my feet and wore them for a while(day or two around the house) . True to LL Beans instructions they did stretch and are now very comfortable using very thin socks or without socks. Hoping they stretch a bit more so I can use normal socks. Oh, when I say I jammed them on my feet, I'm not exagerating. I thought they were going to stop the circulation in my feet!

Rated 3 out of 5 by LibrarianEd Not What I Thought It Would Be
I was excited about the Penny Loafer, thinking it would be as good quality as other shoes I've purchased at LL Bean. But not quite. While it fit nicely when I first purchased them, they've stretched out more than other shoes to the point that they're loose. The heels have worn away very quickly. Another review said they 'eat socks' which wasn't the case when I first bought them. Now they definitely eat my socks. Finally, they've 'creased' on the top of the foot, but not really where the foot creases, to the point of being painful sometimes. I'm actually thinking of returning them, which is something I've never done with LL Bean purchases. I'd stay away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PacifcNorthwesterner Penny loafers run true to size. A little narrow.
I normally wear an 8.5EE in dress shoes. After reading the comments about sizing, I ordered a half size smaller (size 8EE). This was a mistake because these shoes run true to size. The width of the shoe was quite snug.

I've had these shoes for a couple of months and I can honestly say these are among the best I have from L.L.Bean (and I have a LOT of Bean's shoes and boots). Very nice craftsmanship exceeding what most other retailers have to offer. The comfort is right there with the best too; very cushy and easy on the feet. The thick, oiled nubuck is an attractive medium brown. My only complaint is that I can't find a matching belt anywhere.
