You will see that instructions are to wear for a while before deciding. When I received my 12D shoes I could barely get them even on my feet. Thank god they included a shoe horn. I considered sending them back but I never return anything(That's just me) So I jammed them on my feet and wore them for a while(day or two around the house) . True to LL Beans instructions they did stretch and are now very comfortable using very thin socks or without socks. Hoping they stretch a bit more so I can use normal socks. Oh, when I say I jammed them on my feet, I'm not exagerating. I thought they were going to stop the circulation in my feet!

I was excited about the Penny Loafer, thinking it would be as good quality as other shoes I've purchased at LL Bean. But not quite. While it fit nicely when I first purchased them, they've stretched out more than other shoes to the point that they're loose. The heels have worn away very quickly. Another review said they 'eat socks' which wasn't the case when I first bought them. Now they definitely eat my socks. Finally, they've 'creased' on the top of the foot, but not really where the foot creases, to the point of being painful sometimes. I'm actually thinking of returning them, which is something I've never done with LL Bean purchases. I'd stay away.

I normally wear an 8.5EE in dress shoes. After reading the comments about sizing, I ordered a half size smaller (size 8EE). This was a mistake because these shoes run true to size. The width of the shoe was quite snug.

I've had these shoes for a couple of months and I can honestly say these are among the best I have from L.L.Bean (and I have a LOT of Bean's shoes and boots). Very nice craftsmanship exceeding what most other retailers have to offer. The comfort is right there with the best too; very cushy and easy on the feet. The thick, oiled nubuck is an attractive medium brown. My only complaint is that I can't find a matching belt anywhere.

Hi. I have ordered several pairs of shoes from L.L.Bean over the years and have never had a problem with fit, unitl I received my 1st pair of these. The first thing I noticed when I tried them on was how tight they seemed. Based on others' reviews and the little information tag that came with them, I understood that they would need to break in over the next few days. After wearing them several days and experiencing pain and numbness I exchanged them. The original pair were the same size I've ordered all my previous shoe purchases with Bean; size 12 medium . The next pair I ordered in size 12 EE #wider than originals#, These feel great out of the box! BTW. .my heel does nearly lift out of the back of the shoe as another customer mentioned, so probably not great for long walks. But they look and feel quite good around the office.

I received these good looking shoes but the right shoe seemed at least 1/2 size longer and more roomy. I returned them and did not feel that I should order them again.

Rated 2 out of 5 Look Great / Eat Socks
These shoes look great and are very well made, however they are sock eaters. As you walk the shoes pull your socks down until they are bunched up under your arch. I have taken to wearing them with no socks and that works great.

VERY comfortable, right out of the box! No significant break in period. Leather is soft! Not stiff at all. Suspect after a few months they will REALLY soften up. Stylish for business casual. THANKS LLBean!
