I had ordered these because of the great price, hoping that they would fit me in my normal size. Unfortunately, they did not. Far too narrow to comfortably fit, even when a break-in period is taken into account. The shoe seems reasonably well made. If your feet are narrow and a size one width larger than your normal size is available, consider ordering this shoe. If your feet run wide, like mine do, don't bother with this model. I wish they did fit. Would have been a great buy.

I purchased the Monhegan Oxford about a month ago and they do take a few days to wear in but that is to be expected of a hand-sewn nubuck leather shoe. Once you get past the wear in period, you will appreciate the quality and fine fit of this typical LL Bean product. Great price too!

They are great for my construction business; look good and feel comfortable right out of the box. Please consider making a low boot version of these, (and offering narrow sizes again)!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bonasi Great classic oxfords from Bean
These are very well-made shoes, with full-grain, supple leather. Stitching, fit, and finish are all impeccabe. That said, they're not of the quality of the Allagash line--but then, they're on sale for less than half the price.
I would concur with many of the previous reviewers who noted that this shoe does not fit comfortably right out of the box; mine were especially tight in the width. In fact, it's almost painful for the first few hours and then gradually dissipates to mere discomfort after the first couple of days. But after a week or so, the leather stretches to conform to every contour of your feet, and the fit is perfect. So stick with them; they're well worth the initial pain.
I'm counting on many years of service from these and, given the sturdy construction of the upper and vamp, hoping they're up for a resole when the very stout sole finally wears through.

Rated 5 out of 5 Luv Em!
Bought these shoes to do chores on a sloping lawn, and I haven't slipped yet!
I also like their looks and that the extra eyelets distinguish them from the boat shoes that everybody else wears.
A final bonus is the name. Although named for Monhegan Island, a desolate place, the name reminds of my favorite movie, "The Last of the Mohicans".

Too hard without extra insoles. Heels pop out away from shoe every step. Am returning.

Rated 3 out of 5 by hikerbigfoot Good sturdy shoes but hard insole
It's a sturdy and good shoes. I gave it a three star because the insole is hard and without much cushion like a leather cowboy boot.

Somehow, the materials and/or making of these shoes seemed flimsy compared with usual Bean's standards. I returned my pair.

It's been hard to find a good sturdy Oxford-style men's shoe lately. I've had these Monhegans for two months now and they are holding up well, good support, fit is right on, yet roomy enough for thick socks. Good traction on all surfaces. I've added a comfort insole, because after a long day on hard concrete floors at work my feet were aching. I was a little leery of the "blown rubber" sole, but they show no signs of wear and I wear them daily, not much "give" though. Hey, the laces even stay done up all day. Highly recommended if you're looking for a sturdy all-round shoe. I will definitely purchase another pair. I gave them only 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the all-day comfort issue, I think there has to be a bit of a trade-off between real sturdy and comfy soles.
