When the coat arrived and unpacked from the carton, it was badly wrinkled. I took coat to the cleaners to be pressed. After my husband wore once, it did not have that crisp, newly pressed appearance but was beginning to look like he had worn it for an entire season. Consequently, after having professionally pressed & wearing once, the coat was returned. LLBean has been a favorite of ours for years and will continue to be so!!!

This is a nice coat with 2 major flaws which have been noted in other reviews. The good--the wool is very nice, the coat is very warm and the styling classic. The bad--the toggles are plastic and the loops are either rubber or plastic. Inevitably, one or both will break or rip; very cheap. The ugly--the zipper is small and cheap and rarely works the first time. It is extraordinarily frustrating to use. I have at times struggled with this zipper for more than 5 minutes. LL Bean's goods are usually known for quality but this coat does not measure up. LL Bean get some wood or bone toggels, leather loops and a big boy zipper befitting this coat and you have a gem. I for one would be glad to pay $50-75 for these improvements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ParttimeBirdWatcher Finally, sleeves that are long enough!
I am a woman with long arms, 33-34. I looked at all the women's coats and none of them had an arm length long enough for me. I bought this coat because the men's size chart indicated the sleeves would fit me. I usually wear a women's L or XL when sleeves aren't a consideration. I bought this jacket in a M and am very satisfied with its fit and warmth.

I could not be happier with this coat. I thought it was a lot of money but I liked the way the coat looked. I then read some criticism here of the buttons and the zipper. Finally I made the decision to purchase and have no regrets whatsoever. I got the Navy Blue and almost wish I had the camel as well. My only reluctance about giving it a really good review is that I get so many nice comments about how great the coat looks I don't want everyone wearing one. It keeps me warm, is comfortable and is physically heavy. I recommend it without reservations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nadrx Great coat for men or women
After reading the reviews I wasn't quite sure what size to order. I am female with broad shoulder, 5''7 about 160lb and I ordered a small and it fits just right and the zipper works well. I am satisfied with this item and would recommend it to anybody who likes that style of coat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by agperson Lack of usable pockets, hood too large
It was not obvious from the pictures or description, but there are no pockets on the side of this coat for keeping your hands warm, and because there are no pockets for that, there is no chance for "passthrough" pockets to get to your pants pockets from outside this very large coat. Additionally, the hood, which is a feature I was really looking for, sits oddly and is much too large. The fit is about what I expected given other reviews, the zipper is as disappointing as others have suggested, and all in all this coat is just not a good enough fit with what I was looking for to justify its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cuester Excellent Duffle at a Good Price
I really like the coat very much, which I ordered in Navy in XXL Tall, my usual size. I'm a big guy and it fits great ... definitely not swimming in it. I can wear it over a sports coat with no problem but it fits fine without. It's a good weight -- not too heavy, not too thin. It's not 80%-20% as one reviewer claims, by the way. The coat is 100% wool and the lining is 100% poly. But for winter trips to the mountains, I'll wear my parka; this is warm but not THAT warm.
Like some others, I also wish the zipper was a bigger and better one, but mine works OK and would not be a deal breaker. If the zipper were a little bigger I would not have to fumble for it in dim light, though. No problem with the quality of the toggles and buttons. Don't know how long they will last but they look fine and seem substantial.
All in all, I feel this was a good purchase and I really like the way it looks. Great for walking up to nearby "restaurant row" on a cold Denver night, as it keeps me warmer than my overcoat does and it's more dressy than a parka -- and my sports jacket doesn't stick out the bottom.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Madisson Authentic, comfortable and warm, BUT...
As a teenager and young man in the UK, I had two duffel coats similar to this. The Bean product is warm, comfortable and good quality in every respect, except for the loops and toggles. Why when the coat is otherwise so fine, use vynil for the loops and plastic for the toggles. They don't even work that well, they keep coming undone. Fortunately there is a zip to keep the coat closed. In traditionional, inexpensive duffel coats, the loops were rope and the toggles wood. In the better quality coats, the loops were leather and and the toggles were bone or horn. Please L.L. Bean why spoil a fine product with cheap plastic and vynil?

Rated 3 out of 5 by MrSteel Message to Bean on Plastic ropes and zipper
Can't beleve you would put plastic ropes for the toggle closure that will most certainly break with little use on a coat with such fine material. Then there's also the zipper issue. Please take heed. This is too good a coat to ruin with two shody elements like these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by johnhutnck Nice coat - poor zipper
The overall quality of this coat is very good with excellent fabric. However, the zipper stopped working after 1 use, causing me to return it. Also, it lacks the button tab across the throat that the previous coats had. The hood blows open in strong wind.
