Rated 4 out of 5 by maranara Good rain jacket, odd issue
It's been raining for weeks here so I was glad to get this jacket. It's a nice jacket and has definitely been keeping me dry. The fit is a little boxy, but I appreciate the length (I have a long torso and it keeps all of me covered). The one issue I have? The zipper is "backwards" - the zipper mechanism is usually on the right side on a woman's jacket - this one is on the left side. A little annoying - it's surprisingly awkward to zip your coat the opposite way. Customer service says that is how they are being made - not sure why, but probably good to know before you order.

I realize I wrote a review prior to my having to use this jacket.
On my recent trip one of the day's had torrential Florida downpours and quite honestly I was the only one that remained dry! So although one day of my trip was dampened by rain my Discovery rain jacket performed admirably and the brighter blue color was indeed cheery on a rainy day.
I would highly recommend it. If I needed a long rain coat and if this is offered in a car coat length I would not hesitate to order one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Monzie Awkward fit and color too bright
I'm 5'3" and on that annoying border between Petite and Regular sizing. I hate needing to roll up my jacket cuffs, though, so I took a chance and ordered this in a Petite. I'm also on the border between Small and Medium. I sized up, thinking it would be better to have a little extra room if I wanted to wear this over a fleece. Not thrilled with any of the color choices. Wanted something dark and neutral (but not black) but my kid has the navy Discovery jacket and I didn't want to get them confused. So I ordered the Barberry, hoping it would be more of a dark pink. Well, I failed pretty much across the board on this one. The Petite was too short in the body, while still being too long in the sleeve length. The Medium is way too big and flares away from the hip, so it looks like a tent. This, combined with the short length means that, when I raise my arms, the jacket leaves my midsection exposed. And the Barberry color is BRIGHT pink. The zipper is one step from being neon pink. Not the most flattering thing for a grown woman unless you're going for that "Camping Barbie" look. So, this one goes back. I'll give it three stars because my kids wear these and like them and they are waterproof and durable. I only wish the women's jackets came in a wider variety of more "outdoorsy" colors....dark green, burgundy, slate grey, or really anything besides baby blue or bright pink.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MegKC NOT a rain jacket
I wore this today in the rain and I was definitely wet underneath. I'm disappointed. I know L.L. Bean for having quality products and this wasn't what I was hoping for.

I really like this rain jacket. It is light weight, water repellent, fits well, and is made of quality material. The orange color is a little bright - definitely orange - but then a bright color on a dreary day isn't such a bad thing. If you are interested in a good, basic rain jacket that will last a while and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I 'd recommend this one.

The jacket I received is waterproof. I tested it under the faucet. But I'm returning it for two reasons.
1. The bottom flares out (no drawstring at the bottom) and is not at all flattering.
2. The advertised self contained pocket is NOT easy to put the jacket in. The zipper is not the full length of the storage pocket making it difficult to stuff the jacket into the pocket.
Nice color, roomy enough. But just not what I was hoping for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by hikerfrau Quality fabirc, the hood has no drawstring
Check this one out if you're tired of poor quality jackets at lower price points, or if you want a basic jacket with no extras. This jacket has very good quality fabric and zipper, plus a fit that allows layering.
LL Bean has left off other features to have this quality fabric at this price. There's no interior pocket, the hood doesn't adjust, the cuffs don't adjust, it doesn't pack down small, and there's no drawstring on the hood.
Look for another jacket if you expect to use the hood in a stiff wind. The hood has no adjustments or drawstring. I can wiggle it off my large head easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CommuterGranny Perfect Rain Jacket!
I am 5'7", 135 lbs, with long arms. I have a long torso and a 38" bust. I bought this Discovery Rain Jacket in Misses Medium, in Alpine Yellow, 8 months ago and find it the best rain jacket ever! It's roomy enough to layer a sweater or thin fleece jacket underneath on cold days. It's 28" long at the back, so it covers me down to my lower hips. The bright yellow color is great for safety when I'm getting my grandchildren in and out of their car seats in a rainy / busy school parking lot, or when I'm walking my dog on dark evenings.
I stay dry no matter how much rain comes down, and the roomy hood is one that's comfortable on my long neck and keeps my head dry. I love the long sleeves that slightly cover my hands when I'm holding a leash in the rain. I love the zippered pockets and the non-sticky and non-sweaty lining. I wear this jacket sometimes on chilly days even when it's not raining because it's a great wind-breaker, is light-weight, and everything about it is comfortable. It's not a stiff nylon; the fabric is quiet and has held up like new these 8 months, even though I wear a heavy backpack daily on the back of it and a heavy travel bag on my right shoulder, and usually carry a heavy, wiggly toddler on my left side: all things that could cause thinner fabric to rip.
If I've been out in the rain, when I take off the jacket inside, it dries quickly. I scrunch it up and tuck it into my bag, and when I pull it out later and shake it, there are no wrinkles. I'm thinking of buying a second one for a spare or just to have in case LL Bean discontinues this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by skirtmaven Beautiful blue color
I was needing a rain resistant windbreaker and "discovered" this at LLBean. :)
The fabric is a nice and durable weight and feel, better quality than I had anticipated.
The fit I would not consider relaxed a bit more fitting but very flattering cut, especially since it's just a windbreaker/rain jacket.
I was looking for white or ivory but this blue is very attractive and cheery.
I hope I don't need to use it on an upcoming trip, but with its compact travel size within its pocket it will be easy to pack!
Another useful and great purchase at LLBean, thanks!

Not thrilled with color Barberry, much more red than the pink it looked from picture...will be reordering in black and size up to be comfortable with a sweatshirt underneath.
