Got this jacket just in time for a campout! Low and behold it POURED rain! So it got "tested" for its waterproofing! AND! IT WON!!! I was dry as dry could be while the other campers in my group got SOAKED! I'll admit, I'm NOT a camouflage lover! YET the purple camouflage is NICE! It's more like purple flowery! Actually LOVE it!!! I'm going to use it for a windbreaker jacket as well! I found it does cut the wind! I'm usually a size M w/LLB jackets. But b/c I wanted to possibly wear a fleece or sweatshirt under I got the L. Since they didn't have a L in Regular size Misses, I got the Petite. I'm 5'5" and weigh 158 lb........and carry most of my wt in my legs and butt area! Just for those who would like this info! The P fits GREAT! I have NOT ONE complaint! I LOVE EVERYTHING about this jacket! IF you have any second thoughts? Get it and return it IF need be! I was somewhat skeptical I will admit...but am NOW a VERY HAPPY DRY CAMPER!

Rated 4 out of 5 by mntgirl Comfortable, light weight and great fit
Bought this jacket for a trip to Costa Rica during their rainy season. It did everything a rain jacket should do. It kept me dry in a light/medium rain, protected me from wind, and was easy to carry around. The fit is great, the orange color fun and highly visible. If you are using the hood, the side vision isn't so great and it can't be adjusted, but it wasn't too big a deal. If it rained heavily, I used an umbrella and the rain jacket kept me dry from driving rain. I am not sure that without an umbrella I would have stayed as dry as I did. It does get a bit warm inside the jacket, but I would rather be dry and slightly warm, than have a jacket that "breaths" and be wet after a while. If you are planning to buy this jacket as an all season jacket, order a size up so you have room to layer. I wore it over t-shirts and long sleeved shirts and had room to move, but it would have felt tight with a fleece or sweatshirt under it. Definitely a solid purchase for the money if you need a raincoat for those days it might rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NMfan Going strong after much use
Had to say that after several years of nearly daily wear, am still using the jacket. The zippers are still functioning well. I do use a little wd40 lube om them each season, after several washings. As others have noted there is a little flaking around neck and turn back at wrists but that is to be expected over time of two different fabrics. Unless you get a yellow plastic slicker! Usu wash minimally and line dry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dagny Bad Fit, Cranky Zipper
While I loved the dark royal blue color, the jacket missed the mark by a country mile. I usually wear a petite small, so that's what I ordered, but this item was narrow enough in the chest to be difficult to get on. When I did squirm into it, I found that the sleeves were overly long, there was no room whatever for a mid-weight sweater under it, and the zipper was cranky. Other people seem to like it, so maybe I just got the rare one that wasn't made as it should have been. It's wrapped and ready to go to the nearest UPS drop box tomorrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by UpNorthFreezeBaby Great Jacket!
I bought this jacket to wear on a five week trip to Europe. I was looking for a rain jacket that was serviceable, pack able and, because I expected it to take a beating, was reasonably priced.
This jacket exceeded my expectations. With a sweater, it was warm enough for chilly weather. It was absolutely water repellant. I never needed my umbrella. It was also nice looking and the fit was flattering. I bought it in black and I was comfortable wearing it everywhere I wanted to go.
Because I wanted to be sure of the fit, I purchased the jacket at our retail store. I found my regular LL Bean size was a perfect fit.
I waited to write this review until I had laundered the jacket. I fully expected the jacket to be trashed after the beating I gave it for five straight weeks. I washed and dried it as directed on the label. I hung it before it was bone dry. It looks brand new and kept its water resistance. I was pleasantly surprised.
I liked this jacket because it could be stuffed in its own pocket. I tried it once and didn't like it. It didn't stuff very well and left wrinkles that needed to hang our before wearing. I found that the jacket rolled or folded into a very small size that actually stored just as well as a stuffed pocket, maybe better.
I like this jacket a lot. Honestly, I bought it as a one-trip throw away but to my surprise, I expect to get a lot more wear out of it. It works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Orange color not as expected
Just wanted to give people a heads-up that the orange color is very different in person than it is in the photo. It's a very, very bright (almost neon) coral color! It's pretty, but very bright. I would have preferred the darker orange color, but I decided to keep it. Have not yet had the chance to try it in the rain, but it seems very well made and fits well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by maranara Good rain jacket, odd issue
It's been raining for weeks here so I was glad to get this jacket. It's a nice jacket and has definitely been keeping me dry. The fit is a little boxy, but I appreciate the length (I have a long torso and it keeps all of me covered). The one issue I have? The zipper is "backwards" - the zipper mechanism is usually on the right side on a woman's jacket - this one is on the left side. A little annoying - it's surprisingly awkward to zip your coat the opposite way. Customer service says that is how they are being made - not sure why, but probably good to know before you order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by skirtmaven Works like a charm!
I realize I wrote a review prior to my having to use this jacket.
On my recent trip one of the day's had torrential Florida downpours and quite honestly I was the only one that remained dry! So although one day of my trip was dampened by rain my Discovery rain jacket performed admirably and the brighter blue color was indeed cheery on a rainy day.
I would highly recommend it. If I needed a long rain coat and if this is offered in a car coat length I would not hesitate to order one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Monzie Awkward fit and color too bright
I'm 5'3" and on that annoying border between Petite and Regular sizing. I hate needing to roll up my jacket cuffs, though, so I took a chance and ordered this in a Petite. I'm also on the border between Small and Medium. I sized up, thinking it would be better to have a little extra room if I wanted to wear this over a fleece. Not thrilled with any of the color choices. Wanted something dark and neutral (but not black) but my kid has the navy Discovery jacket and I didn't want to get them confused. So I ordered the Barberry, hoping it would be more of a dark pink. Well, I failed pretty much across the board on this one. The Petite was too short in the body, while still being too long in the sleeve length. The Medium is way too big and flares away from the hip, so it looks like a tent. This, combined with the short length means that, when I raise my arms, the jacket leaves my midsection exposed. And the Barberry color is BRIGHT pink. The zipper is one step from being neon pink. Not the most flattering thing for a grown woman unless you're going for that "Camping Barbie" look. So, this one goes back. I'll give it three stars because my kids wear these and like them and they are waterproof and durable. I only wish the women's jackets came in a wider variety of more "outdoorsy" colors....dark green, burgundy, slate grey, or really anything besides baby blue or bright pink.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MegKC NOT a rain jacket
I wore this today in the rain and I was definitely wet underneath. I'm disappointed. I know L.L. Bean for having quality products and this wasn't what I was hoping for.
