I'm in my late 20s and currently establishing "legacy pieces" in my wardrobe that will last well into my 30s. This jacket is one of those pieces.
I've had this jacket for about three months and wear it almost every day. I'm 5'4" and around 120 lbs, so I chose the S in Dark Ivy. I'm pear-shaped with a small upper body, so I didn't experience any problems other reviewers had like pulling in the shoulders or snug sleeves. In fact, I regularly wear bulky sweaters underneath and feel extremely comfortable. (I usually wear a 4 in shirts, but I went with the S in this jacket instead of the XS specifically for layering.)
The waist options are crucial, too. Soon after receiving the coat, I fitted the waist with the snap options. This makes the coat not only more flattering, but it makes it a lot more sleek and stylish.
I live in a river valley in the Appalachians where it's constantly windy, and this jacket is perfect for where I live. Although I can't give an opinion on how the jacket would fare in colder climates, it's perfect if you're looking for some wind relief. It's windproof and you can roll down the edge of the sleeves over your hands or gloves for some extra wind resistance. It's surprisingly warm for being so thin -- a fact I loved when I had to walk through the snow during the blizzard this year.
If you're having doubts about the color, you can easily treat the Dark Ivy like a neutral. It looks great with white, cream, brown, and black. I even wear it with bright coral and it still looks classy. This versatility, combined with that impeccable LL Bean quality, is why I'm happy to have this piece in my closet for years to come.

I am very happy with this jacket on the whole. I got it in khaki, on a markdown, in size XS Misses' Regular (5'7", 130-135lbs, early 30s, hourglass shape). I thought it looked beautiful as I opened up the package.
It is well made, has lovely corduroy zipper flap and collar trim and a nice plaid lining. Good quality snap buttons, versatile colour, very lightweight, looks stylish. The waistband has two different button settings so you can create a bit more of a waist which I found was necessary in my case and improved the look a lot. If I didn't have that other button setting, I think I might have found the look a little boxy.
One issue is that the sleeves are definitely long, but as others mentioned you can roll up the sleeves and show the plaid lining and it looks nice like that. The other thing is that it could be just me, since this is a common issue for me, but there is a bit of that pull feeling in the armpits and shoulder blades as I raise my arms or bring them across my chest. If this is significant in a coat, this is usually a total deal breaker for me, but although I can still notice it with this one a bit, it is much better than I have experienced with certain coats and since I always struggle with this, it wasn't enough of a bother this time to return it. It wouldn't help to go up a size as there was a lot of room in the body. If that issue were totally absent and if the body was a little trimmer/sleeves a touch shorter, I would have given it 5 stars.
In terms of warmth, this is very lightweight and likely best for fall and spring if you live in a cold climate, like I do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by RealNorthernCali arms too skinny
Nice coat except the skinny arms and maybe the narrow upper back, making the arms too tight. I'm a 12, I got the large. To be fair my upper arms are large. I got my daughter the small, she's a size 2, and she is having the same issue with arm and shoulder room. Mine is going back,

It is exactly what I expected, I ordered the khaki and it is a warm goldtone with olive green trim. It is plenty warm and should wear quite well. The back snap options make this very flattering and it is comfortable to wear because it is not bulky or thick. I love it - just really wanted the Evergreen color which I understand is discontinued. I would love this in Cranberry or Navy also.

I bought the blue in small and I think it fits fine. 5'3", 115 lb. If I had bought the XS it would have been too tight in the shoulders. I have room for a thick sweater or fleece top. The blue color is fine. Really like the plaid on the cuffs which were too long and I had to roll up. It definitely is too thin to wear in very cold weather, but that is what down is for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SandyNC Wonderful for fall days
I have enjoyed wearing this coat. It is a perfect addition to my fall wardrobe allowing room for layering; the small allows enough for the under layers. The coat is not the same color as the blue pictured but still really pretty.

I bought this to go to Prague the end of November. I liked that it was not bulky and was stylish. The description said that it would work with temps as low as 35 degrees, and lower temperatures if you were doing moderate exercise. Overall, I was happy with it. However, I will caution that in temperatures in the 30s, I really had to layer to keep warm (and I was constantly walking). The size I bought left enough room for me to wear thin layers underneath, so this worked fine. However, I would not want to rely on this as my main jacket for weather in the 30s, as it would not always be convenient to have to pile layers on underneath. Also, I had to carefully match up the zipper parts or it would not zip. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by GoodWitchoftheWest Not for Minus Fifteen ?
Nice looking coat. It fits well and is hip length. But it is fairly lightweight and I do not think it would be warm enough to wear at minus fifteen degrees. (I have a parka for temps like that.) The sleeves are a little long for me. It would be great if L.L. Bean would put two buttons on the cuffs, like mens' shirts. Then, people could make the coat fit more closely at the wrist, rather than falling down over the hand. Overall, I love the riding coat and also the riding vest.

I love the style with the side snap belts. I can zip it for steady warmth, or snap it for a quick step outside. It's roomy enough to wear a light fleece underneath for added warmth. The mid length works well in the car, but comes low enough for comfort.
