Rated 4 out of 5 by Birder7 Not That Warm
I've worn this jacket two or three times, and it doesn't come close to being warm to -15. I wasn't warm enough at 40. But it looks really great on, and having been warned about the zipper, I had no trouble with it. The jacket is described as best with a midweight layer, but it's rather tight through the arms and shoulders, and it's more comfortable with just a turtleneck. I do a lot of birding, and I couldn't hold up a pair of binoculars comfortably while wearing a lightweight sweater under this coat. I'm 5'7", weigh 140, and generally wear a size M. I tried the L, and it was way too big. I'll have to content myself with looking good on the street and wear something else in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LegallySouthern exactly what I was looking for!
For reference - I usually wear between an Extra Small and Small (5'4", 150lb) in LLBean and I ordered the Small to make sure I'd have plenty of room for layers underneath. The size is great for me, it is roomy without feeling like it swallows me. I ordered the jacket in Tan/Khaki so that it would be more versatile and I am very pleased with the color as well as the corduroy accents on the sleeves and collar.
I received this jacket in the mail a week ago and I've worn it every single day. Being that annoying time of year when the temperature has literally gone from 50 degrees to 10 degrees in the span of a week, this jacket has kept me warm the entire time without making me overheated.
The weight of this jacket was exactly what I was looking for, it keeps me very warm while still being comfortable, compared with a heavy wool coat that makes me feel so stiff and restricted.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by PastaLover1513 Great Jacket!
This is a really stylish warm jacket that is not bulky and fits comfortably. The rating would've been 5 star, but the zipper is less than desirable. Change the zipper and this jacket is definitely a winner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jardin Really nice but needed warmer/longer
I've been looking for the right quilted stable jacket like the ones I used to get in Italy- they were very simple, very lightweight, and very warm and portable, worked even over work suits or bulkier sweaters, easy to slide on or off, use as a pillow or lap blanket on the trains, always looked elegant...
I ordered this in 2 sizes based on the reviews: I am 5'5" @ 125 lbs, athletic build and the S was too big. The XS was pretty much the right size, so I returned the S.
(Even the XS is not a snug fit, so I'd say size down.)
I love the fabric, and the lining, and all the details. The lining is beautiful- soft and real and lovely subdued plaid; I loved the way the cuffs folded back to reveal it. It looks and feels like a really well-made jacket with the correct finitions.
I ordered it in black- I really hesitated because I really think the tan, the olive and the navy are equally beautiful, but for my wardrobe, a first one in black was going to be the most versatile so I went with that one. The lining is a foresty plaid, the piping corduroy- as I said, really nice.
It was a tiny bit shorter than I expected; it comes a fraction of an inch past my butt; I thought/hoped it would be longer.
I ordered it before the Fall snap came in to the air here in Japan, and was really looking forward to wearing it.
That Autumn crispness finally came, and I put this for the first time over a light sweater, jeans, and Uggs, and stepped out on the balcony.
It should have been perfect, but the jacket didn't add any warmth to me whatsoever. It wasn't even as if it were really cold out. I waited a while, thinking maybe I was just adjusting from being inside, but I didn't get any warmer. The Italian jackets I had were not lined and kept me warmer, so I didn't really understand.
I love the look of the jacket but I really needed it to be that lightweight layer of warmth for mid-season so unfortunately I'll be sending it back. I'm glad L.L Bean is so good about returns, and I am happy with almost everything I ever buy from them so I'd recommend this jacket none-the-less- it's great-looking and very well made- just wasn't exactly what I needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ljmr Very stylish and warm
I bought this jacket in navy, size XS, which is my usual LLB size. For reference, I am 5'3-1/2", 130 pounds, chest 32B. I love that the material is not shiny, and the corduroy trim and plaid lining are nice touches. The sleeves look great by turning them up to show the plaid and corduroy on the cuff. I don't understand all the negative comments on the zipper because I don't have any problems zipping or unzipping on the first try. I can easily wear a thin t-shirt underneath as well as my thick wool turtleneck sweaters. I wear the side/back tabs on the tighter snap, even with a sweater, which feels great and defines your shape. Love this Fall jacket!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tripster333 Nice light weight fall jacket
I just received this jacket today. The fit is pretty good. The only issue I would have is that the sleeves are a little long. No big deal as I can turn them up. I purchased this in a large Navy as I am 5 8".
I could wear a light weight sweater under this jacket. I also like the length just below the hips.

Rated 1 out of 5 by EmilyBNewJersey Nice jacket but zipper broke within months
This quilted riding jacket, which I bought in Feburary 2014, has a good fit, is reasonably attractive, and has kept me comfortably warm (with some layers) in temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
However, I'm giving it the lowest possible mark because the zipper has completely failed after less than six months of wearing. First I couldn't unfasten the zipper, then I couldn't fasten it, and now both zipper pulls are on the same track and I can't use the zipper at all.
This is really disappointing, because otherwise I am pleased with the jacket. The jacket does have snaps, but it's just not as warm without the zipper, so I'm not sure I can wear in colder weather now.
I had planned to buy a new down parka from Bean this winter to replace my 10-year-old Baxter State Parka, but in light of this experience, I am rethinking that plan and will be looking at down coats at other retailers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BookLadyWalker Still a comfortable jacket
I purchased a riding jacket ten years ago and was happy to see the latest version. It's lighter, but still warm and comfortable. I have to say though, the thing I miss most is the inside zipper pocket. Why doesn't this jacket have one? I liked having a place to keep spare cash, phone, and ID when I'm out walking. And another thing: The zipper still gives me trouble. Not easy to zip up in a hurry. But I'm still happy with it and hope it lasts as long as the last one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DCoopr I Luv my Riding Jacket!
I love this jacket. It's lightweight, yet warm, the fit is perfect for me I wear a size 16. There are gathers on the side if you want a more custom fit. It wears well with work clothes and weekend wear. I haven't washed it yet, but I have placed in my dryer's "steam fresh" setting and its comes out perfect. I would highly recommend this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Charann GREAT FALL JACKET
This is the third LL Bean outwear jacket that I have purchased for myself in the past year and I can honestly say this was another great hit., too I chose the Khaki shade and just love it. The jacket is well made and the quilting on the outside gives it a finished look. I also like the longer length and have had no trouble whatsoever so far with the zipper. The jacket provides enough warmth and looks stylish for casual as well as certain semi-dress events. The pockets are deep enough to place a pair of gloves in (one in each side) and I intend to wear this jacket in the early Spring as well. I feel that I made a good investment with this jacket and will look forward to wearing it for a long, long time!
