Oh, and the arms are too long.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Baltgirl Reviews are correct - too narrow in shoulders!
You know, I kept reading in reviews that the shoulders and arms of this jacket are narrow. I went ahead and purchased the correct size for my daughter...and the shoulders and arms were too tight. Go figure!
Sometimes comments like that are just one person's body type. But since this concern has cropped up many times in reviews - it obviously is a factor for most people. I ordered up a size for my daughter as she doesn't mind big clothing, but this should be adjusted through LL Bean as ordering up to accommodate the shoulders will mean a frumpier fit elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MissMich Pleased with this jacket
I am 5'3" and about a size 12. I was looking for a nice mid-weight jacket that was a little dressier than my L.L. Bean barn coat. This jacket fits the bill nicely. By the way, I am from Michigan. This is DEFINITELY NOT warm enough for a winter coat unless you are just running in the store or have many layers underneath. This is really an autumn coat.
I purchased it in navy blue, which a lovely dark ink blue color. The material is brushed - it is NOT shiny which is a plus for me. I ordered a Large and an X-Large because I prefer my coats looser so that I can wear a sweater or sweatshirt beneath the coat. The XL was the right size.
I agree with other reviewers that the shoulders are a little snug, and this jacket tends to hit shorter people around the hips and rear where many women (like myself) tend to be fuller. The XL gave me some extra room, but the sleeves are very long. Luckily, when you roll them up, you expose the cute plaid lining and it looks very nice. I am pleased with this purchase, but I think I would suggest a size up unless you are on the slimmer and taller side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shopoholic14 Great jacket!
I ordered the petite xl in the coral and for me, 5'1" and 165 lbs, its a great fit. The sleeves are meant to be cuffed, which shows the cute plaid lining. The length covers my rear and the lining is lightweight and warm. Not a winter coat by any means but perfect for fall. The side tabs give some shape and it has a vent in the back, plus a two way zipper! Love That! The coral is not shiney at all and for the $80 sale price, I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PrancingPony great jacket, not so great fit if you're short
I loved the look of this jacket, but unfortunately the fit was just too large for me. I'm 5'1" with an average build and ordered the XS petite, thinking that should fit. Unfortunately, the arms were about 2" too long and the jacket was overall just too wide, so I'll be returning it. I wish this jacket and other LL Bean petite items were available in an XXS because I really did like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CityKitty Quilted Riding Jacket
Not what I was after. I have a quilted bean jacket from years back that I was hoping to replace with this jacket. However this new jacket is not nearly as warm. The old jacket has thermore insulation and the fabric is not shiny. Fit on this is true to size. To me it feels like a rain jacket, not an everyday jacket, because of the fabric choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by GertInMaine Tight in the Shoulders
This a really cute jacket, however it's very tight in the shoulders. Unfortunately sizing up would not work becuase the rest of the body would be too big. I'm disappointed because this jacket could be the perfect jacket if not for the shoulders.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Laura0909 Pricey and could use some design improvements
I was hesitant to order this jacket. I really liked the look of it, and I live in the South, so I wanted something lightweight for fall and winter. It fits the bill there. There is next to no filling-- I think someone said it was approved for -5? No way. I would not wear this if it were below freezing outside.
The main thing that concerned me about ordering it (or anything online) was the fit. I'm 5'8" tall and weigh about 160 lbs. To wear over a sweater, and based on the other reviews, I thought I would need a Large. Unfortunately, a Large wasn't available in the color I wanted, so I ordered a Medium, prepared to send it back.
Like others have said, the fit is a little strange, but it works for me. The sleeves are quite long. I have long arms, so usually I have the opposite problem. However, the lining is a nice plaid, and turning the sleeves up once looks fine.
There is plenty of room around the waist and chest, and there are snaps in the back to adjust the fit, so that is good. The shoulders are rather narrow, though, so if you are broad-shouldered, order a size up. My shoulders are narrow-to-medium, and when I pull my arms forward, it is pretty tight across the back. Ideally, it would be a little roomier there, but I wouldn't want it to be any bigger around or longer in the sleeves. The jacket itself falls below my hip, which is good.
The pockets are nice and deep. There is a zipper and snaps. Like others have said, the zipper is pretty useless. I will probably just use the snaps or leave it open, since I don't plan on relying on it for real warmth.
Overall, I like it and will probably wear it often. The price is a little steep, so if you can wait for a sale, that would probably be wise. I'd think you could find a similar jacket elsewhere for $60 or $70. LL Bean tends to be high quality, yes, but for an item of clothing like this, attention to detail doesn't make that much difference (and it's not without needed improvements).

Rated 5 out of 5 by AntelopeFam Great updated Jacket
Loved the look and fit of this jacket. I ordered the petite small in black and the fit was perfect. The only thing that did not fit was the sleeves were slightly too long but it is nothing I can not deal with. The negatives of this jacket are the inside lining does look like my grandfathers old flannel shirt and I do not like the green under the collar and along the front. All of this can be hidden but I did love the style and the weight of this jacket. Much better then the old version. I had no problem with the zipper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LLBeanLoyalist47 Please bring back the old version of this jacket!
I bought this jacket two or three years ago and LOVED it. I travel with it everywhere and I even wear it to work over my suits in the early Fall and late Spring. I ordered a new one as I wear my current one so much I wanted another one in a different color for some variety. I am sorry to say, but I really, really dislike the changes made to this jacket, so much so that I am sending it back immediately and writing this review. Please bring back the version of your riding jacket from two or three years ago that did not have a zipper, did not have corduroy fabric under the collar, did not have the snaps on the sides which are so unflattering and just was made of better material and had a better overall cut with sleeves long enough to fold and show the inner fabric.
