I ordered this toggle coat and when I saw that it came in a box that was 2 inches thick, I knew right then I was not going to keep it. Before opening the box, the coat felt very light, and after opening up I know why. The wool material is kind of like thin felt (those that you buy in a craft store). Yes the thinsulate is as expected, but when I read the materials label, there is only 20% wool, so back in the box for return. I have had a version of this coat from over 10 years ago, and the material is thick, like the peacoat, and it is roomier and I love it. Several years ago, I bought one for my mom and the wool was herringbone, and it did not feel as soft, but ok. She liked it. And when I saw this, I thought maybe I can update mine. Nope. Please bring back the old quality and fabric.

I like most everything about this coat except the zipper. Really, it is the worst zipper I've ever had to struggle with.
I'm counting my blessings that I live in a mild climate because if I had to struggle to zip this up with gloves on and a -10 wind blowing in my face I'd be shipping this back.
The fabric is soft like a fluffy felted wool, and the blue is a nice shade but I'm not too pleased with the vinyl toggles...brown toggles + black lining is silly. Also, I REALLY question the -25 rating on this coat. With my heaviest wool sweater underneath I'm struggling to stay warm @ 0.
If the jacket hadn't been discounted and has toggles in addition to a zipper for closure - I probably would be sending this back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by twinsmama06 Better than I expected!
I was a little hesitant to buy this coat because of so many negative reviews, but I was able to try it on at an ll bean outlet first before buying it. I love how soft it is and have been quite warm on these cold mornings (in the 30's) while waiting for the bus. I had a 12 year old ll bean duffle coat and it was in desperate need of replacing! While this one isn't 100% wool, it is still very warm and kept the wind out. I did buy a large (I am a 12) because I didn't feel like I wouldn't have been able to wear a thick sweater or sweatshirt under the medium without being too bunched up. The large is big, but not too big. I really do love it. The only issue I have, is why were the toggles brown on a blue coat with black interior? Strange.

I am very pleased with this attractive duffle coat. It has proven to be very warm and cosy in our cold, blustery weather. The 3/4 length adds to the warmth factor, and yet it is not as cumbersome as a long coat. I hate hats, so I like to be able to flip up the hood when the winds are especially fierce. The coat is beautifully made, with nice details.

I also have an LL Bean duffle coat from years back. It was the best coat that I ever owned. It was 100% wool exterior and lined with 100% wool. It always kept me toasty warm in the coldest weather. It is worn out now, even after having it repaired many times, and I needed a replacement. I bought the newest model. This current duffle coat is nothing like my previous one. It is only 20% wool. The fabric is really thin, and the lining equally so. It's advertised to keep you warm at 25 degrees below zero. It was 18 degrees here today and I froze in it. The wind went right through it. I am so disappointed in the decline in quality in LL Bean products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KKeddy LOVE this coat!!!
I bought this coat with a bit of hesitation because of the many more negative reviews. But I had been looking for a coat exactly like this for a long time. I received it today and just got back from a walk in it (currently it is -16 with the windchill). I LOVE it! It kept me toasty warm! The outside of it is SO soft, it's slimming and very well made! I would 100% recommend this coat to others! I will say to get a size smaller, I am a curvy girl and normally would order a XL but i ordered the large and have enough room to put on a heavy sweater underneath. Thanks LL BEAN! Very happy customer here!

by AngieF Not The Same Coat As Pictured on Website (???)
I just received this coat today and it fits great. It looks good too, but I was expecting the toggles and details to be black--as pictured on the website. A bit disappointing, as the coat will not coordinate as well with my black boots, black purse now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WinterLady Yes to the Duffle Coat
After reading some of the other reviews, I almost decided to buy the Lambswool Polo instead; however, I loved the style of the Duffle Coat, and it was very important to me to have a hood. I am very happy that I bought the Duffle. The fit is just right. I'm a size 10, and the medium is perfect, although a size 12 person would probably need the large. And while others complained that the coat is not heavy enough, with the Thinsulate insulation, it is plenty warm even in our freezing temperatures. True, it doesn't feel "heavy" like some coats, but it is warm and comfortable with deep pockets and a heavy duty zipper. The hood is roomy and also nicely insulated. Overall, I am very pleased with this coat, and would like to note that LLBean lowered the price by 15% at the time of my purchase.

Purchased as a gift for spouse. The new coat arrived and the seam of the lining was torn. I expect better quality from LL Bean.

I bought this coat in XL and last year's model [1/2 price] in a Large. Last year's fit great, looked great and being half price is the best of all because I would not pay full price for this coat, it is not worth the money.
I have a lambscoat from llbean that is great and worth everything I paid for it. This coat looked and felt cheap and it didn't fit right.
For an Xlarge for this years model to a Large from last years model should not be a huge difference. The XLarge was so tight and when I put my hands in the pocket, they kept going down and I could touch lower then normal.
I didn't hesitate to send it right back.
I did keep last years, it looks great, fits great and at half price, I paid what it is worth.
I'd look again at what model you want to make for next year but for the price, please add some wool.
