Rated 5 out of 5 by RHIA Great boot/shoe
I purchased my boots about 10 years ago. They are beginning to show some wear this year and I hope to replace them with a new pair in another color this year. I have worn them daily for all these winters without them leaking or showing much of any signs of wear and, along with heavy socks, they have gotten me through the infamous Central New York record cold and snowfalls. I would recommend these to anyone who needs a reliable boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Christine303 These worked great!
I bought a pair for a 3-week trip to Norway - a lot of hiking and in and out of boats. The shoes were perfect. I bought my regular size (8 1/2) and found mid-weight wool socks worked well. They weren't tight and I didn't have any blisters (plus I had a bit of room for toe wiggling, which is a must).
I don't think they're very heavy once they're on. They feel very well-constructed. Even when I wear them at home when walking the dog, I don't have issues.

Bought these on the daily markdown back in late 2014 with a little trepidation due to other reviews about how heavy they were but they really aren't. There is a difference when you hold something in your hand vs wearing them on your feet. I purchased the peat moss/peat moss and they go with black, navy, brown, olive etc.
Unfortunately I inadvertently ordered the wrong size (1/2 sz too big). When I realized it, Bean no longer had my size. I purchased a thick hiking sock which helped a lot. Not sorry at all that I purchased and kept them.

This is a handsome, well-constructed shoe. While the Vibram rubber sole is a selling point of these shoes, be advised that it adds considerable weight to the shoe. I wear a 8 M hiking boot and found the length and toe box of this pair adequate; however, the heel is wide and my heel slips when wearing them with mid-weight socks, which makes them useless. I do find that wearing a VERY heavy pair of boot socks helps. Of course, these extra thick socks make the toe box area fit more snug, but still I am able to wear the boots for short hikes in cold weather. I can recommend these boots, with heavy socks, for that purpose. These boots will be used primarily for hiking in climates much colder than we have in central Fla. I purchased them originally for their waterproof feature.

I wrote a review on Aug 12 saying I liked these shoes. After wearing them in Alaska, I found the shoes rubbed the top area across my toes. By the end of the day, my toes ached. I really liked them, at first. If there is a way to fix this issue, I will keep them. Btw, had no problem with wet feet.

Just received these hiking shoes. I wanted a size 9 wide, however, they were out of that size. So, I Took a chance and ordered a size 9 1/2 wide. The shoes fit perfectly. So, I do suggest you order a half size larger than your own regular size. I will be traveling to Alaska and will report the waterproof feature when I return. They are a bit heavier than I imagined. The arch hits in the right spot.

I absolutley love how these shoes fit and once you get them worn in they're a great shoe, however the waterproof construction is very disapointing. This is my 3rd pair and this will be the 3rd time I'm sending a pair of shoes back to L.L.Bean on the account that the waterproof wears off in less than a year. I paid a lot of money for these shoes and they should have lasted longer than they did. I had called and spoken to a sales rep. from llbean last year about them not being waterproof anymore, and she told me that I shouldn't wear the same shoe all the time, 'cause it wears them out. I have several pairs of shoes so I informed her that I wore a variety and not just the same ones. I'm thinking about just getting my money back, and taking my business elsewhere!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheraP 1/2 size up, one width up - PERFECT!
I love these right out of the box! Second try was a charm!
On my first try, using my regular size - in the color on sale - I found them a bit short and quite a bit tight. Thankfully, the color on sale was still available in a size up and an increase in width. I just now put them on. And I"m thrilled! (I've had life long hard to fit feet. But these are heaven!)
I know there's supposed to be a break-in period, but these feel SO good! And just what I needed. A new pair of Gortex walking shoes that give really good support.
As for the heel problems people have had, I noticed the laces at the very top were threaded from outside to inside. I was about to change that, when I realized it would enable me to tie them tighter at the very top. Guess what? NO heel slippage!
Thank you LLBean! These may last me the rest of my life!

As much as I really liked the "look" of these boots, I had to return them. I have a wide foot - and ordered wide - but the toe box on these boots is VERY small. If you have a wide foot, I definitely would not recommend these for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeansRegular Excellent All-weather Hiking Shoe
Of all of the hiking shoes that I have owned, these are the most comfortable. The fit is true to size and width. I am right between an 8.5 and 9 in shoes and boots, and with a hiking sock, the size 9 fits great. When I tried them on with a regular sock, I noted that there was slight slippage in the heel as some reviewers mentioned, but that was eliminated totally when I put on a sock intended for hiking. I think that may be the problem that others have experienced. The amount of adjustability allowed by the deep lacing system (down closer to the toe) helped me dial in the fit for a pretty exact and comfortable fit. I wore them around the house right out of the box for a few hours, and soon didn't even notice that I had hiking shoes on. Adjusting the laces helped eliminate any heel slippage too.
The Vibram outsole provides excellent grip, which I tested on my tile kitchen floor. With these hikers on my right foot and varied other shoes on my left foot, I tried to slide on the tiles. The hikers gripped the floor and prevented my right foot from sliding (usually very slippery tiles). When I wet the tiles, the same thing happened, with no sliding at all from the hikers. I also love the Gore-tex breathable liners, allowing true all-season and all-weather wear.
I am impressed with the solid construction and comfort. I am glad to see that they were made in Italy and not China. Of course, I would prefer if they were made in the US, but these will work very well for me. I am sure that I will get many great years of hiking from these shoes in all kinds of weather.
