Rated 4 out of 5�by Emdornblaser Comparison to the 425 Hi so this is maybe not as helpful a review when it comes to using the collar as I just got one and haven't used it yet but... I looked everywhere and couldn't find the true difference between the S and non S collars except that one was for "stubborn" dogs (whatever that means) Well, now that I got the packaging it explains it so I thought I'd share: the 425 (non-S) can be set to a low and a medium stimulation setting. The default is supposed to be the medium setting on this one. The 425 S (stubborn) can be set to a medium and a high stimulation setting and the default here is the high setting. So, there is some overlap between the two and I would make the decision based on the temperment of the dog. Does your dog cower when you yell no? then I'd expect it would 'listen' well on the low setting where as a dog that looks at you with a "who are you to tell me what to do" look after you yell no might do better w/ the S on high. I got couldn't find the 425 anywhere so I got the S and set it to the medium setting for my 35lb relatively well behaved dog. My intention is to use it mostly for re-inforcement of commands rather than as a corrective tool for bad behavior. The 425 and 425 S are the updated models of the old field 400 models. Now instead of a level 8 correction they only go to level 7 and the 8 has been replaced with a tone/vibrate mode. So instead of shocking your dog you can make the thing make a noise or vibrate to send a warning to the dog if it is set on the V/T setting. If you keep the dial on one of the numbers then the side button on the remote turns into a tone or vibrate button depending on which mode you program it to. I'm in the process of getting the dog used to the collar before I actually use it. Hope it helps. March 2, 2013
