First day in the woods with this jacket it did just want I hoped for. Kept me dry, kept the wind off, was quiet going through brush. You have to layer well underneath but if you do that this is a perfect coat for wet nasty days in the woods. Not cheap but if you figure on only buying a piece once with the LL Bean Warranty and customer service behind it, definitely worth the $$.

Rated 4 out of 5áby ally1998 Great jacket for active hunter
I used this jacket and matching pant in Canada this past year and loved it. It is well thought out with pocket placement and did keep me dry in snow and light rain. I recommend the primaloft jacket that zips inside when you are not moving to retain body heat. Only reason I did not give five stars is that for close quarters hunting, the fabric noise may be an issue if you are not careful. Bow hunters or short range rifle hunters may not like the material.

Jacket is used for hunting in Maine as well as use in the off season. I have tried the other Big Game system jackets and felt they were heavy hanging and uncomfortable. I decided to try the GT soft shell. I like the quietness and fit and though a little stiff to start with wear it does begin to soften. Even though I have the fleece liner it is still quite warm by itself. There are a few suggestions though. First it would be great if it had a double action zipper instead of just a single. Secondly, the zipper pull for the forearm cuff could stand to be a little bigger. It is hard to handle with gloves on. Thirdly, though Gore Tex is breathable the coat would benefit from having underarm vent zippers for those warmer days or elevation hikes to help with ventilation. I believe this could be a solid bulls-eye with a few adjustments. Keep up the good work and continue improving and upgrading your products.

Bought this for elk hunting in Colorado. There really aren't any truly silent Gore-Tex or other breathable jackets, in particular that aren't noisy in other ways. Had an older LL Bean parka, so when I saw this thought I'd give it a try. It might be okay for stand hunting, but the type hunting you really need a quiet jacket for this is no good at all. It is very stiff, and very heavy feeling. The material is heavy and warm, but there is no way to ventilate, like pit zips, while you are moving (and no matter how breathable Gore-Tex claims to be, if you are climbing the high country, you will exceed Gore-Tex's ability to breath). And because it is so stiff I'd be reluctant to use it for stand hunting as well. It is a real shame as the outer material is the most silent I've tried. Perhaps if enough people give feedback they'll redesign around the same outer material, but make it useful for hunters. I really appreciated not having to have camo, as it looks good and would be useful outside hunting season if it were made like a good shell should be. Nice try but a swing and a miss this time.

Rated 4 out of 5áby AKCrow well made and comfortable
I purchased this coat to go with the soft shell Gortex pants I purchased last year. So far I am just as pleased with the Jacket. I will put it to the test on a upcoming trip to Kodiak, AK. Till then I will field test in locally.
