Rated 4 out of 5 by MoreBeanTheBetter Works for kayak
I had a tough time making the decision for a PVD to use while kayaking. I really wanted something thinner that would count as a PVD but not be in my way. Truth is I don't want to use a PVD while kayaking on our small lake but with two pre-teen girls watching, not to mention it's the law, I have no choice. So, this is the one I chose. It's NOT thin but it doesn't really get in my way either. I feel comfortable with it but more importantly, I feel comfortable with my 13 year old using it. Looks like we will be getting two more this summer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by bdlyman Not for me
LL Bean's web site doesn't show the underarm/side construction. This "vest" has three straps on each side with quite a lot of extra length on each strap that has to be tucked into a velcro pouch in the front panel on each side. I also didn't really care for the mesh back or angled strap or fit. I'm 6 feet, 205 pounds and the large size had 8-12 inches of extra strap (for three on each side) that needed stowing- which was awkward since there were now bulges in the front panels. The photos don't show the straps at all. The largest issue for me was that there are no fabric side panels under the arms connecting the front and rear, only the straps- think smock with straps v. vest construction. The flotation also sits lower around the midsection than I was used to compared to my older Extra Sport and prior LLBean life jackets. I don't use life jackets for for paddling, but for sailing. Perhaps this is what you're after but it wasn't for me...especially for a rather high price point of $80.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Flotation Mesh Back PFD
This is a very nice PFD, great padding, and I do like the mesh back. I did return it as it is not a good idea to order this type of thing online, better to fit it first. I think that I need the next size up so I am going to get that one.
