Rated 5 out of 5 by MistySF great modern take on traditional form
I love the idea of a shirt dress, but so many look matronly. This is perfect. It is straight cut, so buy it so fits on top, and wear with a belt. Hits just above the knee on me (5'7", size 8). The madras prints (I got the bright multi and golden sand) also feel modern.
This comes with a self belt, which is not mentioned in the description, but is shown in some of the pictures. However, it is cuter with a different belt, as shown in some other pictures.
I think this would be nicer if it had self belt loops that laid flat, instead of the thread loops that stick out and ruin the line and look cheap. I guess I'll remove them.
Love this dress. Will be cute as a dress, or with jeans on our cool summer nights.

The fabric feels very soft and comfortable, and I like the bright multi color. I give the dress 5 stars even though I am going to make some alterations to it. I am not sure about the long sleeves, maybe I will cut them off, and also I am going to make the dress a smaller size. According to the size chart I bought the size 6 regular, but it was too wide.I was not able to exchange it for a smaller size since in that color and length it was sold out.

I'm 5'1" and 115 pounds. I tried the 2P and it was way too short - lower mid thigh. Also tried the 2R and it was on top of my knee. The 2P runs tighter all through the dress and was a teeny bit snug but the 2R was very loose. I'm sending both back and am trying a 4P in hopes it will work. Dress is pretty but on the verge of stodgey...definitely needs something to "fashion" it up to look cute and not frumpy. I tried the aqua sandals but they hurt so I will wear with similar-like orange sandals that I own.

Great dress for the summer. I wasn't sure about the colors, but when I got it in person - it's a madras with on-trend neon pops of color. Perfect for the summer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ilovebooks Just too short
Comparing the new fall color (Driftwood) with the Dark Umber that I bought during the spring, the Driftwood is considerably shorter. I'm 5'5" and the Driftwood (0 regular) hit several inches above the knee. No way is this dress even close to 39 inches as described for regular length. I agree with the previous reviewer that a fall hem should be longer. This is a classic shirtdress in a beautiful color and pattern. It would look so much more chic (not to mention balanced) if the hem came to at least the knee. The short length looks cropped and juvenile, and wearing the sleeves long isn't really even a fashionable option. While I did keep the Dark Umber, which is just long enough, the Driftwood sadly went back. With two more inches added to the length, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat.

The pattern and colors are gorgeous, but this dress cannot decide whether it is a fall dress (it is long-sleeved), or a summer dress (fabric is thin and the dress is short). The above-the-knee length looks silly with long-sleeves. I wish LLBean would make this dress in a longer version (mid-calf) and in a slightly heavier fabric. It would be so stylish, like the 1940's. Perfect for Fall. LLBean, can you do that?

Rated 5 out of 5 by plaidme1 cotton madras dress
I love this dress. It is the perfect combination of colors for me. It is a timeless shift to be worn with belt or without. Light 100% cotton is perfect for hot summer days and nights.

I love this dress! I have WORN! WASHED! AND DRIED! I hung it up to dry because it is 100% cotton & I didn't want it to shrink. It fits so good, it looks like it was made just for me. I will not say where it was made because this is my 2nd time to review this dress because LLB rejected my 1st review. I think the only reason was because I told of my disappointment of where it was made. I THINK if they are going to sell the merchandise, then they should accept any criticism. I was disappointed it was not made in the U.S.A.!

Rated 5 out of 5 by RebD Great dress
I bought this dress in burnt umber, which is not quite as bright as pictured, but still lovely. I'm 5'4" with a small bust but 40" hips and the size 6 regular fits me very well. The dress falls to the knee and does not pull or bunch in places to look awkward, so I do disagree with the reviewer who said that this dress might not work for curvier women. The material is very high quality and I love that I'll be able to wear it through the fall and maybe even the winter with a pair of thick tights and boots. I've received many compliments on the dress so far and it's only my first day wearing it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by LLNewYork01 Meh - a shapeless shirtdress
I don't understand the raves for this dress. It is a basic, shapeless shirt dress. The cotton is very thin, which is appropriate for madras, but the color (I bought the Dark Umber) was very "fall". Actually it is an odd mix of garish colors laid on a brown background. Looked subtler in the pictures. Sizing was about right. I gave it 3 stars because there is nothing really wrong with it. But nothing right either. I'm a big fan of the Signature collection. This is my first disappointment .It is going back.
