..I have purchased Merrell frequently before, I choose a full size larger than my regular size, normal shoe about 9 1/2 this Merrell was
10 1/2. I was worried about the full size larger, but hiking boots require at least 1/2 size larger. Was worried the Merrell would slip off, but this model has so much cushion it will never slip off. I have been to El Camino de Santiago over 15x times so it is important to have a Vibram sole. If the shoe does not , I won't consider it. Also the extra space in the front is important, there are diffferent terrains in el Camino, one of which is the downhill, so I needed extra space for the downhill trip, if not, the shoe would be too tight going downhill producing blisters. I wear a light ankle hiking sock, which is important. I dont like the heavy hiking socks. Also, Merrell fits wide size, it comes in a D but works ok for EE. They also do not require extensive use (break in) before use. This is a great hiking shoe, for those who need a larger size, consider fittting before, if you have an LL Bean close by. I had to order by mail, but it worked fine. Merrell is a great product, I can probably get another 2 trips from this shoe; the terrain at el Camino is very challenging, I have even walked in the snow, so I know it fairly well. A good hiking shoe is very important..

Rated 5 out of 5 by 3rdPair Great shoe for someone with narrow heel
This is my 3rd pair over the last 8 to 12 years. The sole finally started to separate from shoe where it flexes the most near ball of my foot. Provides great support through instep and lacing is very comfortable. The Chameleon offers a comfortable fit if you tend to have a narrow heel. The balance of fabric and leather wears very well. Excellent in the snow and slush of New England. The second pair finally got too dirty to wear casually and now are my dependable gardening and yard work shoes.

Wow! purchased these at the L.L. Bean store after careful review and guidance from a knoweldgeable L.L. Bean salesperson. Tried on and walked in 4 other competitor versions these were the best fit at the time.
Now they are my "Go To" shoe! Not just for hiking, which they excel at, but just for bombing around town! I was an avid sport shoe wearer for casual around town, now it's these!
Oh! and i wear them on the trails too!

The shoes arrived on time. Fit was perfect right out of the box. No break in required. A very good value.

These shoes are very comfortable and fit as expected for a hiking shoe. They fit your fit as if they are one, rather than something you throw on your feet with far too much wiggle room or just too loose. Again, ideal for light hiking. Also, they are very well built, rugged, and stylish. One caveat, since they fit so well, these are not for people who require wider shoes.

shoes looked very nice, but were very heavy and extremely stiff. I'm on my feet 9/10 hours a day, needed something more comfortable

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ma3944 Great for everyday walking around in the snow/ice
I bought these to help out with the winter commute (I take public transport so walk outside a lot). These boots have turned out to be quite comfortable. I can wear them all day without even really noticing. My feet stay dry and reasonably warm outside and I don't overheat during the day in my office. They've performed very well during a recent snow/rain storm where we got about 4 inches of slush. I can walk through standing puddles without too much concern. Since they are low-rise, I don't go forging through really deep puddles, but to step through an inch or two of standing water, it seems to be just fine. At first the boots were uncomfortable and I thought about taking them back but after I soldiered through a full day wearing them, they are now very comfortable to wear all the time! I haven't taken them out hiking or anything. Just around town wear for me.

This is my second pair of Merrells. My first pair I wore just about every day for two years. I have never had a pair of shoes, hikers, whatever that were so comfortable. I am now hooked on Merrills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JProf Great waterproof low hikers
The Merrell Chameleon 5 hikers I ordered are my third pair of these great shoes (Chameleons). They offer great lateral support and balance on rocky trails. They are so comfortable I wear them year round every day, work and hiking. That's why I've gone through two previous pairs. They get a LOT of mileage. The fact they are waterproof lets me wear them no matter what the weather. I have heavier duty boots for some trails, but I always hesitate to take off the Merrells.

This purchase was well worth the money. I took 14 scouts to Camp Bell in NH. Our camp site was at the top of a 1000 ft hill that we had to go up and down to/from 3-5 times per day. The trails were rocky and the roads rough. The shoes broke-in perfectly. The fit was 1/2 size my normal per suggestion by Bean's staff and was right-on-the-money. Of all the camping equipment I bought/wore used, the only other item of equal use was my poncho because of the rain showers - ha ha.
I bought my son the 2012 version over the winter and he is on staff at camp. He has not worn his Merrell's out yet and they have been a worthwhile shoe!
So satisfied with this shoe, it truly had a great design, perfect fit, comfortable. Waterproof too!!
