I have two of these knives. Used one several times on fresh water with excellent results, but used the other one yesterday in salt water for the first time. I cut several baitfish and rinsed it in salt water to remove the blood, etc. By the time I returned home a few hours later it was completely corroded. Washed it in soap and water, used a brillo pad, and to no avail

I am very disappointed with this knife. Out of the box it looks fantastic but after a few uses, I can not get it to hold an edge. Even more frustrating is how quickly the blade has rusted.
I was expecting much, much more for the price from LL Bean.

I bought this for my Grandson. He loves fishing and it's never been off of his side since I brought it home from LL's. "Boy Memaw this is a really neat and a good knife. As the Grandma I was overjoyed that he was thrilled.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Ilikeknives Excellent Classic Trout Knife
The knife is exactly like it is described. Super sharp and well made. I hunt and fish and will be using it mainly for fish cleaning and all around camp use. The blade is stronger than the longer fillet knives you see in the discount store. You won't regret buying this knife. Has a quality sheath. Should last me a lifetime.

My wife and I have owned one or two Bean's Trout Knives throughout our marriage of 55 years. We recently took one to our church kitchen to use there and forgot to bring it home. One week later, it was gone. So we bought two more. We would never be without one.

Rated 5 out of 5áby CCF22 Knife useful for just about everything!
My family have used these knives since early 1940's!! Everyday use in the kitchen! Peeling, cutting etc. Grew up using and can't live without! So happy they are back to carbon blade! Easily sharpened and some of my very old ones have very thin blades! Not happy with the one I have with stainless blade. Will return for another carbon blade!!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Centralcoastcook My best friend
Two or three years ago I picked up a small knife that just felt nice in my hand at the goodwill for 50 cents. I didn't see until much later that LLBean was on the handle as by the time I got it someone else had used it for such a long time that the letters were almost obscured. A few months ago I was preparing my house for sale and in the process I misplaced or lost the knife. I was devastated as it had become the next best thing in my every day life. I really missed it each day when I diced or sliced, it stayed sharp and could go from slicing an over ripe tomato to deboning a turkey. THe ONLY thing it did not do well was slice bread. I finally decided to call you to see if by my description, You would be able to tell me if that knife was still available or maybe there might be a similar one. Instead I discovered your web catalogue, went to knives and after a few minutes found my wonderful knife. I though the price was appalling as I am 81 years old and my first job in New Your city in 1953 paid $29 a week. I took a big step in self gratification and I ordered the knife for $49. I am thrilled to say that in the month since I have felt almost as if my best friend came home. I have no idea how long you have been offering this knife but I hope you will never eliminate it from your catalogue, it is a gem. .
Many many thanks

When I first receive the knife it wasn't very sharp and I had my doubts as to whether I had made a mistake but it had a good spine so I picked up a sharping stone and hit the blade with a couple of strokes and it sharpen right up. I've since used it on several fish and it works just fine.
