Rated 5 out of 5 by DucatiRdr Perfect for single track trails
I picked these up based on reviews here and elsewhere and found that what everyone said was true; these run a size small and are otherwise a HUGE improvement over wearing cargo shorts and a compression liner. My problem was soreness on day two after a spirited ride through the woods. My riding consists of intermediate level trails, small drops, rocky climbs, roots - typical New England woods singletrack. I bought these primarily for the crotch pad.
Putting the shorts on for the first time was like trying on an adult diaper...I'm guessing (and hope to never actually find out). The pad is stiff and awkward. I swear that everyone around me saw something weird in my pants where normally weirdness is not acceptable. After a ride though, the pad conformed (wedged in??) to my body and was not noticeable and hopefully invisible. Best part? No day 2 soreness where I sit. Mission accomplished!
The liner snaps in to the shorts with two loops and is machine washable. The outer shorts are durable with pockets perfectly located. The right hand thigh pocket has a clip for your keys. Zippers are low profile and durable. Velcro where it counts.
In a nutshell...great pair of shorts that are so good I'm buying a second pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lars123 My first pair of cycling shorts
WARNING: this item runs on the small size!
I decided to buy a pair of biking shorts allowing me to take longer rides in comport.
The first pair I bought was the LL Bean Comfort Cycling Shorts but they were way too small.
I am a waist 35-36 and these shorts are a good fit. I bought a LARGE size.
The short liner could be a little tighter and the outer shorts could be a little larger on the waist, but overall, excellent.
Since you don't wear underwear with biking shorts, I was wonder how comfortable and supportive the liner would be, and I am glad to say it is fine.
Of you are over a 36" waist, the large size will probably be too small.
What I also like about the shorts are the pocket zippers and the velcro waist adjustment.
There are very small snaps that are used to attached the liner to the shorts, and I do wonder how long they will last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by RamblinManVA small pocket entry; no better than other shorts
Pockets are made for someone who must be tiny. I have an XL and I can fit just barely two fingers in most of the pockets. I'd rather have one normal size pocket. I find my other shorts that I paid less for are just as comfortable and functional. I don't see the big deal with these shorts.

I had to return these shorts for two reasons. First, the inner and removable part was very difficult to get into and was hot and uncomfortable. Second, and more important, I ordered a Large size which should have been 36 - 38. But it was extremely tight and I could just barely button it. Thinking I perhaps had gained some inches, I measured the waist and it was only 34" and could stretch out another 1-2 inches. I concluded that the actual size did not match the stated size.

I've tried lots of shorts over the years for mountain biking and these are the absolute best! Very well constructed and thought out. sizing is dead on...for those wondering about the sizing click on the tab for sizing of these shorts. Velcro tabs for custom fit, waist band closure snap backed up with a velcro tab, pockets a decent liner and synthetic chamois. Light weight, cool, don't snag up on brush when doing single track and they are comfortable. I have 36in waist and ordered xl which covers sizes 36-39.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Aloha2You Love these shorts - but they do run small
I have two pairs of these and I love them. Use them all the time and find the short and padded liner highly preferable to the Pearl Izumi Canyon shorts I bought at the same time. But be warned - they run small. Luckily I had read the other reviews and ordered XL - I have a 38" waist and these are the perfect size for that.

Padded for your riding comfort. Quality of the shorts are great, pockets are well thought out and strategically placed. Comfortable and ease of fitment adjustments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EagleM08 The perfect shorts
I bought these shorts online and they were delivered yesterday. As a salesperson in a men's wear store, I was most concerned about sizing, as other customers had warned that htese shorts run small. However, they fit exactly as L.L. Bean said they would; I would caution future buyers that these are sized according to true waist sizes, not "jeans sizes."
These shorts are incredibly well constucted at the seams and are made over very durable fabric that will take quite a beating for years to come. Additionally, the roomy pockets are built very tough, and I am not at all worried about broken zippers or popped seams at the pockets.
Long story short, buy these shorts.

I purchased these for my husband as a gift. He has high expectations for his biking gear. At first he was not thrilled I veered from his regular brand. After trying them on he is impressed with the quality and comfort. He liked the tan as an alternate to the black and gray he already has. We just have to exchange for a larger size now.
He doesn't like the little tabs for butting them in, but figures that's mostly a non-issue.
