I did not read the description that the bike shorts are recommended for shorter rides, but I wore them for a 100 mile ride and they were great. True sizing, love the lower waist, very comfortable. Shorts fit like a glove, no riding up. My favorite shorts!

Rated 4 out of 5 by SwimBikePlay Good for mountain bikes & short rides
I was looking for a pair of longer shorts without silicone leg grippers & decided to try these. The material is fairly thin and very stretchy (rather than compressive) which makes the shorts comfortable and not too warm, and they don't create that sausage-like effect on your thighs. According to the garment tag from Terry, the chamois pattern is of the mountain-bike/upright posture type (i.e., more padding in the back than in the front) and designed for short rides (under 30 miles). After trying these shorts with several bikes and varying distances, I agree. They are most comfortable on mountain-bike style saddles (and not as well suited for racing or touring saddles), and work fine for rides under 3 hours of pedalling (after that, I experienced chafing around the chamois seam edges).

Rated 5 out of 5 by TraverseOutdoorGal I love these shorts!
One of the best things about the shorts is that they come in XL, which fits a full-figured, but active gal like me. The bike shorts are very comfy, and even if you're not usually a lycra fan, these shorts will make you change your mind. I put them in the washer and dryer and they came out fine. Up here in northern Michigan, our biking season has recently begun (it's late May now). I wore the shorts for a 28 mile ride last week, and came home with a happy tush! Compared to other high-quality bike shorts, the price is quite reasonable.

I love these biking shorts. The fit is perfect. They do not ride up my leg. I will order another pair.

I don't usually write reviews but I just had to tell you how much I love these bike shorts! They are definitely my favorite bike shorts. They don't have that elastic around the legs so they don't leave any marks. The waist band is also comfortable and flattering. I wear them to spin class and also brought them on a week long bike trip where I wore them all day and they were very comfortable. My 22 year old daughter borrowed my shorts and loved them so much that I had to buy a pair for her.

I bought 2 pair of riding shorts from L.. L. Bean. One has a pair of shorts over the biking shorts and the Terry Actif shorts.
These are the better of the 2. They fit like a glove and the padding fits me perfectly. The legs do not slide up and they are so comfortable I don't feel like I am wearing anything but regular shorts. I have been riding about 10-15 miles each day using these shorts.
They feel good and wash well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by wisconsinrabbit sizing chart needs work but the shorts are great
Based on the sizing chart I almost got the large because my waist suggested a large even though my hips suggested a medium. I'm really glad I got the medium because the waist is fine. I love the shorts, especially the wide bands on the legs as an alternative to elastic which I'm allergic to and to silicone grippers which give me heat rash. These are super comfortable.

I did not want to buy biking shorts for the longest time! I finally gave in since I am increasing the length of my rides. When I signed up for a 37-mile charity ride and didn't want a sore butt, I knew it was time! These really helped and were comfortable. They felt soft and did not ride up. I love the fact that they basically reach my knees and stay put! It ended up the hottest day of the year so far for my ride. It was over 90 degrees when I finished and still going up. The shorts kept me cool AND comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by klbee Great short for around town!
I haven't received my order yet, but I already own a pair of these Terry Shorts (this specific model) so I was very happy to see LL Bean now carrying them. I ordered them as soon as I saw them on the website! These have a minimal chamois. Great for around town or a few hours ride. I don't know if these would be my choice for touring but for everything else they are great. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the legs don't really "grip." They are not a compression short but they could grip a little better. I'm between a small and med. so my current shorts are medium and the only complaint is that the legs do tend to ride up.
