This wet suit is comfortable and fits well ... my child has cold urticaria and the wetsuit allows my child to swim as it protects the body core and keeps it warm enough in regular water environments, I recommended the wetsuit for my niece and nephew and they use it for white water activities and love it too, purchased this time as needed a larger size I have purchased 5 over a few years

Only used this wet suit once so far, it seems ok but doesn't feel quite as good as quality as the previous wetsuit L.L. Bean had been offering. Also, the previous one had an option of getting one with flowers on the front. This is only plain black. My daughter was disappointed in that.

I give an A+ to LL Bean?s accurate sizing information. I am neither a ?large child? nor ?male,? but I my height is 63.5?, chest is 33.5? and waist is 26?. The XL wet suit fits me perfectly. It also is exactly what I need for protection from the chill and for ease of movement both in and out of the water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Becky1 The kids changed my mind
I hesitated purchasing this suit for my two kids because of the first two comments. I was disappointed when the suits arrived, they are much thinner than the previous one I bought. I equated thinness with not keeping the kids warm.
Both of my kids (8 & 10) said this suit kept them warmer. One of them liked this better because it was more comfortable. The interior of the suit does feel much smoother.
There is one thing I don't like. I hand wash the suits. With the old one, I could leave it to dry. With the current one, I have to remember to turn the suit inside out once the outside is dry. The inside doesn't seem to dry otherwise.
An area of improvement would be for the zipper, which is located in the back. The old one had a long attachment, which was very easy for the kids to zip and unzip, although I thought it seemed hazardous. My kids wear the suit at the Y exclusively. I'm not sure I would've felt comfortable for them to wear to a lake or something, for fear the attachment could snag onto some object. The current one doesn't have an attachment, which the kids find it difficult or impossible to dress themselves. Perhaps LL Beans could figure out a design that is both esthetically appealing and cost effective.

My son adores this wet suit and thinks that it is a huge improvement over your prior one. He loves the seamless construction on the inside and the lightweight fabric -- he no longer gets rashes after wearing a wet suit. He told his swim coach about the fantastic features of this new wet suit, and the coach is now planning to buy one for a relative.

I must state off the bat that we have never owned a wetsuit before, and do not know how warm this one would be in the water as we did not get that far so this commentary and review are unfortunately more about fit and quality than use.
But we did purchase this one plus a clearance older one and there is no comparison. First, the older one LOOKS better on my child. It FITS better on my child. It has a zipper pull so he can dress himself, and it doesn't seem cheaply made or chinsy. Frankly we're keeping the older style one in the size up to grow into next year b/c we liked it a lot - but unfortunately that leaves us w/o one for now.
The newer one (this one) feels flimsy, and while that might be good (less weight, easier moving in the water etc), I must agree with another reviewer that it gives the appearance of being able to be torn very easily. I was almost ginger with it trying it on my child. No way we're keeping it based on that alone.
The neck was "rough" with no edge or seam, unlike the ends of the pants. It looked awful and while it was soft, was awkward for my child, who didn't like it and the way it felt or fit.
The zipper in the back had no pull on it for him to be able to dress himself. The older style one had a great pull. Again, this is foolish and makes it much less useful as he needs to be able to get himself dressed w/o me.
The suit frankly didn't fit in any way shape or form. It seemed too big, yet had we gone a size down it would have been too small (clearly). It hung wrong, looked terrible and awkward, and was nothing like the "sleek" and comfortable look of the older style suit. Kind of boxy really, plus solid black with no color trim or anything. I knew that when I ordered it, but didn't realize how much of a difference it would make in how it looked (awful) and how much of a difference it would make to my child and his willingness to wear it (like wearing an awkward box which restricts movement, "no way I can swim in this thing!" kind of protest).
Go back to the old design in terms of looks, but use this material if it's so much better AND if you finish all the seams and somehow reassure us that it won't tear the first time you use it....

The material is much thinner than previous LLBean wet suits. We purchased it so my daughter could stay a little warmmer in the cold waters of lakes and rivers. One encounter with rocks and the material would tear for sure. We returned it.
